Love that you guys are having fun on the topic while being genuinely curious about it! As someone with moderate tourettes, that girl definitely has it more severe. Only a small portion of people who have it say profanities, and depending on the severity and the person, it can be controlled. If you’re distracted it almost always goes away for the time being, but the moment you start thinking about it is when it acts up again. It can go on for hours, days or weeks as episodes, but sometimes it’s a fulltime job at McDonald’s.

I have Tourette's and I personally would like to share my story in the comments because it's some thing that a lot of people don't understand. I've been kicked out of class before by teachers who think that I am trying to be disruptive. It is difficult to live with, but some things to help. For me, my cats and just animals in general greatly reduce my tics. Music and singing also help. I have a relatively severe case Tourette's, however I do believe that the girl in the video is faking some of the tics, or purposefully making them more severe. It took me over two years to get a diagnosis because my neurologist thought that I was faking it. The first thing that he asked me when I came in with my symptoms was if I had TikTok. When I said yes, he said that he thinks I saw someone on TikTok who either had Tourette's or was faking it and that it resonated in my brain to a point where I developed psychosomatic tics. It wasn't until January of this year, 2023, in which I finally got a diagnosis. The thing that people need to understand is that well some people can suppress their tics, not everyone can. For me, I can suppress them for about 30 seconds at most. I do not like hitting myself or others, I do not like yelling in public, and I don't like not being able to control my body. It's something that people genuinely struggle with, and if you have read this, thank you so much.

Plus only 10-15% of us have coprolalia which is the bad words and copropraxia which is the bad gestures so its really a small amount of us. Im part of that 10-15%. Here is the meaning of the types of tourettes you can have.
Motor tics: These are sudden, apparently uncontrollable movements such as exaggerated eye blinking, grimacing, head jerking, or shoulder shrugging.
Vocal tics: These include repeated throat clearing, sniffing, or humming.

i learned that in TS there is coprolalia (involuntary outbursts of profane words), there is copropraxia (involuntary profane physical movements, like the middle finger, etc.), and there is coprophenomena (combination of the two), but even in tourettes, these symptoms are pretty rare. most people tend to have a few specific words, sounds, or movements that they repeat, like blinking, throat clearing, twitching, shrugging, etc. the profanity seems to have something to do with the amygdala, which is the part of the brain that controls anger and aggression. so when this part is affected, you get visible displays of sudden uncontrollable aggression that may manifest as cursing or profane gestures. again though, this type is rare.

I had plenty of them when I was a kid, til I was around 20. One was verbal - quiet coughs. Of nonverbal there were: moving lips, blinking (sometimes with one eye, sometimes with both at the same time), turning nose (don't ask me how I can do it - I don't know!), opening eyes widelly...
It was always one tick at the time. I would suppress one tick, but I'd get another one soon. I really tried to keep it under control. There were times when I was proud of myself, because I didn't have any! Uh, those were celebrations!😂
It stopped, but I stil have to be careful, even 20 years later. Sometimes I make a movement with my mouth or eyes and imediately say to myself: "Don't make it a tick again"!
So, my case is not so severe. Maybe epilepsy has something to do with it, I don't know. I never had a discussion about it with my epileptologist.

I love Baylen! I followed her since she dropped her “Baking with Tourette’s” video. She was on a medication that helped her ticks but her body got immune to it so she’s had to switch. And a lot of her videos discuss her journey; like she’s had a boyfriend and she went to college.. She even recognizes how some of her ticks come out and she’ll laugh at herself. But it’s peculiar like Ryan said - thanks for shedding light on Bay! ✊🏾

So I actually have tourettes and can kinda explain it a bit. When we feel like a tic is coming we can kinda tell what tic it's gonna be but sometimes we can't. When the tics get very bad we can have multiple at a time, those could be the same ones or different ones, me personally I don't have a verbal tic I have a snapping my fingers tic and a head nod tic, both of those range from how aggressive they are, it can be a very hard head jerk or just a slight one. The tics get worse when I'm nervous, anxious, or excited about something. And people with tourettes can have multiple different tics, some come and go and some stay for a while. There's also this thing called tic attacks, where a certain tic or multiple will start and not stop for a bit, mine could range from 10 minutes to 30 minutes of just nonstop tics, those don't happen very often though.
