When you're testing whether a sonic boom can break glass and Jamie is still wearing his sunglasses, I don't think he has much faith in the likelihood of the myth being confirmed.
10:34 Always find it funny when they put up those tiny bulletproof glass shields to stand behind and then have a wide shot where the camera crew are unprotected.
How cute of you, you think that what you see on a produced TV show is actually linear / real time... xD Some of those shots were even blanks (smoke)... Do not eat everything you see without chewing first... Think critically
I saw the Blue Angels in my hometown of North Bay, northern Ontario Canada. Was a phenomenal show. R.I.P. the pilots who were sacrificed for the progression of those skilled pilots.
There is a way to make a bullet follow a curved flight path, except it'd need to be a spherical bullet like a musket ball, and you'd need to spin it along a vertical axis rather than along the flight path. Look up the Magnus effect. A cylindrical bullet would also work, except it needs to be vertically oriented, so the barrel would need to be square shaped rather than round. Either way you'd also need to figure out a way of making it spin vertically.
Every year the RAF pays out compensation to homeowners who have broken windows due to sonic booms from jets. I'm sure they wouldn't pay out if this was a myth. RAF jets generally need a Senior officer's permission to go supersonic over land, for example to intercept civilian aircraft that are not responding to air traffic control or to escort foreign military aircraft (normally Russian Bear bombers) that are approaching UK airspace.
as we see in the video, it's not the sonic boom that broke the window, but the windowframe buckling. I think I'd file that under the same concept as "glass hits when bullets break it", personally. They had to tear the house apart before the window broke . . . that's not a special property of sonic booms and glass anymore, that's just "if you hit things with force, they break", and it's actually quite surprising that the house needs to literally tear apart before the window breaks. I would guess that windows require a lot less force than houses to break, y'know?
As I understand it, the sound barrier is broken in the barrel, that's why we hear the crack. It is not the sound of the bullet passing by. The same can be said about the jets! Am I wrong? The bullets passing by don't make the "crack" sound. A real sonic boom can be heard when the Falcon 9 booster passes below the speed of sound coming back into landing.
The Sonic boom continues wherever the bullet/jet passes, as they are an object flying through air The case of the jet is easier to understand, the engine behind it still makes sound all the time, but that sound is slower then the jet, making a pressure wave behind it, that's why you hear a BOOM after it passes, not just a engine sound The bullet is more like you said, but you just need to do it somewhat close to the gun, and that's more than close enough
Oh man... out of all the seasons, all the episodes and every test and trick and myth they've done... Flying not only _with_ the blue angels, but actually sitting in the cockpit of one of those birds. This is the one I am most envious of... DCS/MSFS have nothing on the real deal.
That window was too small. If they would of used a regular sized window, it would of broken a lot sooner. Side note: they missed the chance to have Jamie build that house and have him chill/sunbathe in the middle of nowhere, as if he finally found an isolated spot in this world, only to be suddenly hit by the sonic boom.
The barrel’s straight and nothing you do is going to continuously apply a curving force once it leaves the barrel. Even if you got the bullet to spin in the air like they did in the last one it still flew straight. They’re are only so many physical attributes you can change for a bullet to change how it flies. You would need actual magic to get it to behave like the film.
So this reoccurring Narrator voice problem, you think it's due to some center-speaker surround soundmixing suboptimally downmixed to stereo? I'm sure it's not a conscious decission to have it sound like this.
the trajectory of ALL shots as seen on high speed coverage WAS NOT PERFECTLY in the middle, they should have used a sturdier mount on the rifle, they only ADJUSTED the space between the targets and did not bother to make sure that the trajectory of the bullet would pass right smack in the middle of the rows.
@@Toddpeekence My basis for saying this is from Adam Savages "Tested" youtube channel. Adam has stated there is no permit available for a C4 and the other explosions that happened on the show. the explosions were all training exercises. it leads me to wonder the commentator would say the Blue Angels flight was a training exercise but not say this on every other episode.
@34:17 if you fire anything from a rotating movement it will continue in a straight line. Even if you spin with a ball and let it fly it will fly straight.
I am reminded of pictures of green houses that were demolished by the sonic boom caused by Concord, back in the 1970s. Part of the reason that plain was taken out of use, I believe. So maybe they should have tested this myth with a Concord....... In the 70s.....!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the sonic boom occurs when they break the sound barrier, like the tip of a whip. Flying by at super-sonic speeds does not equal a sonic boom, it’s just a lot of noise passing by.
I think there is a second “boom” when a projectile drops below the speed of sound. I think this should have been tested down range? I am also thinking that the ballistic coefficients and size make a difference. So myth busted. You can’t break glass with just any sonic boom. I don’t know, I’m just throwing things out there. Lol
the sonic boom is a continous phenomenon. You just hear it "once" on the ground because the plane passes over you once. If it would turn around and pass you again, you'd hear it again. the plane is constantly pushing a supersonic compression shockwave infront of it, that creates the boom. it's why Concorde and other supersonic passenger flights were so short lived and unpopular with the population - they'd constantly sonic boom every lived in space under their flight routes.
Well I strongly disagree with what Adam and Jamie said about the sonic boom. For 1: the FA-18 hornets top at Mach 1.8, the F-15 can easily do 2.5. And another is I have heard stories from my grandpa before he passed away and he said that the jets Canada had the CF-100’s they were at tree top height and they had done some major damage than what the Mythbusters experienced.
Well, doing some quick googling I can't really find that higher speeds create louder booms. Also, going at those speeds that low is utterly insane. Heck, a parked jet just "revving" up without moving would probably cause damage, specially hearing damage because those things by themselves are stupid loud and generate a ton of force.
At this point, theres no way this channel or that other 'Banijay Science' one uploading these are anywhere near official with this garbage audio issue being on both. Kind of want them to just get removed so i can stop clicking on them. Havent watched this show in many years, i cant help myself.
Given that Baninjay Science is the official owner of the Mythbusters show, there's all way. There's a reason as to why the about tab for this channel points to Baninjay

Oh come on, obviously he was wearing myth proof glasses.
The moustache deflected the shockwave away from his glasses 🤣
The majority of glasses are not glass and haven't been for many years...
@@SuperUltimateLP But would the material in glasses lenses be affected by a sonic boom.
This is a question for the mythbusters....! Oh, yeah!

"Can you arc a bullet around an object?" Newton says no. You'd have to apply a force on the bullet during its flight.
