Cant believe Red skeleton betrayed the other Neon skeletons to work with the Metallic skeletons. Deepest lore. I feel absolutely terrible for distracted skeleton. Let him try again.
I love how simple the rhymes the skeletons have. The words that rhyme are one of the first things you think about when attempting to rhyme. Like end -> send, shoe -> you, bone -> phone, etc.
My theory is that our protagonist is red who betrayed the other neon ones as he disagreed with their destructive tendencies. The main villain is purple and his right hand man is mafia as he mentions the boss and his other henchman is green. They hung wall skeleton on the wall as a form of torture. The wood skeleton is staging a rebellion against the neon skeletons with red but after wall was captured that’s when he was hung so for revenge all the other skeletons have joined them to defeat the evil purple skeleton. Oh and distracted skeleton is secretly the strongest but he is always too distracted to help and the ore skeletons are the oldest and have seen purples miss deeds. I also believe wall was woods best friend and because wood made the rebellion he got captured so he says that he has nothing else to lose. Blue may also be part of the neons as he is neon. On reflection I believe that gold made the rebellion as he says about raising an army against the neons but wood was the first to join and his reasoning was wall was captured and his forest was burned by the neons. The wall and wood friendship is just speculation but it sorta works.
I like to think that all of the skeletons were once William aftons victims however similar to how the souls possess the animatronics a part of their souls still posesses their bodies now turned to skeleton
Love that this meme has extended lore created by the interactions and implications of each verse. Green Skeleton is very much a threat. Potentially the one that wiped out Wood Skeleton's comrades. Red, Gold and Steel seek to end Green's terrors, while Brown is simply a bystander who got roped into it. Ice Skeleton is an interim antagonist who doesn't actually want to hurt anyone, but seems to stand more upfront as an incarnation of death, waiting for those who choose to embrace the cold like they do. Buff Skeleton just doesn't want people to mess with him. Badass Skeleton is the second in command who seems like a loser but lives up to his own hype despite the goofy nature because he simply understands that being cool isn't mutually exclusive with being effective. The rest are quirky bonus bosses that don't have as much relevance but someone is going to simp for them. Purple Skeleton is the true final boss, seeking to end reality, and seems to bring the whole thing full circle by paralleling Afton's compulsive need to hurt and kill anyone around him. When he dies, the song can finally end as it normally does. Distracted Skeleton was meant to be a post credits stinger but memo shifts made him assume the part was cut down.

MatPat needs to make a Skeleton Verse Theory, there's so much lore between these skeletons. Edit: Yes, i know he's quitting, BUT, it would be funny if this was one of his last theories :D
ok so from what i understand in the lore, the two main warring factions are the metal skeletons and the colored skeletons. they've been inhabiting the same world since ancient times, as we can see from Copper/Gold and Brown being stated as very old, even for skeleton standards. after someone awoke Purple, an incredibly powerful and godlike skeleton previously kept in eternal slumber, he began raising an army of other colored skeletons in an attempt to destroy the realm of skeletons. his main subordinates are Green, a ruthless killer known for slaughtering entire bloodlines, and Black, a commander of an army of robots. in response, a defensive army of metal skeletons is raised and led into battle to protect the realm by Gold, one of the oldest skeletons and one of the original enemies of Purple (Purple says "I'd recognize you anywhere" and Gold is the most likely candidate, being the only other army leader). Gold's main subordinates are Red, a wizard skeleton who defected from the colored side to stop their murder spree, Steel, a secret informant who reveals a source of power to Gold, and Wood, a survivor of an attack from the colored skeletons who wants to avenge his dead brethren. Badass plays both sides, depending on which he deems is "cooler" at any given time. Copper, Gold's old ally, is too jaded over being made of copper to fight. Ice opposes the bad intentions of Purple's colored army, but remains loyal only to himself, as he trusts only those who are cold. some other neutral parties are Blue, a survivor of his father's abuse who killed him in revenge, Brown, who's stuck in a tomb, Wall, who's stuck on a wall, Buff, who sees the other skeletons as too weak to care about, Mafia, who simply carries out organized crime and doesn't involve himself with the war, Low Quality, who just showed up to sing, and Distracted, who didn't know any of this was even happening.

Many are asking for the "lore" on the skeletons. Thus, I have added here an abridged version of "The Verse of the Skeleton: A Comprehensive Account of the Great Skeleton Wars" by Historian Skeleton. Part 1 (see comments for Part 2): The curtain rises on the Copper Skeleton, youngest of the metallics, often mocked for his appearance, ruling over the last vestiges of the old metallic realm. He is a husk, a shell of the once great metallic dynasty, groaning beneath the little ground he still rules. Then enters Green, the eldest of the neons, a powerful kingdom that rules over much of the underground world. A known warmonger and butcher, Green intends to finish the conquest of the metallic realms, threatening total death and destruction upon copper skeleton, whom he views as an empty, weak king unworthy to rule. However, as Green mobilizes his army, his younger brother, Red, finally decides to confront him. Red, a powerful sorcerer instrumental in the success of Green's armies on the battlefield, had long become disillusioned with his brother's wanton destruction of life. Ridden with guilt and forever reminded of those he killed with his magic by his red bones, Red demands an end to Green's conquests. Yet Green refuses, hellbent on world domination, and attempts to oust Red from all power. In response, Red rallies an army of wizards, sorcerers, and other skeletons, and a civil war ensues within the neon kingdom. Of such destruction and death was this civil war, engulfing all the underground kingdoms, that it stirred the King in Gold. The ancient founder of the metallic dynasty and regarded by some as the greatest skeleton commander to have ever unlived, he rose from his ancient tomb in response to the butchery in the neon-controlled lands and the existential threat faced by his descendent Copper and the last of the metallic lands. Gold calls forth all his ancient levies, amassing a truly fearful army that surges into the neon kingdom, deadset on undoing the centuries of war ushered in by the reckless warmongering of the neons. As the King in Gold mobilized his army, Brown was stirred in his tomb. A lieutenant in Gold's army, his brighter descendents would eventually found the neon dynasty. He was at Gold's right hand, and was buried in a tomb marked by the King's royal gold seals. However, after his second death he slowly grew horrified at his very own undead existence, and is now called to fight against his own descendents in a hellish rebirth. As Red and Green continue their vicious civil war, in the background lurks Blue, the youngest of the three neon brothers. He was never as successful as Green nor as intelligent as Red, and thus was abused by the trio's father for his supposed lack of value. As such, Blue is known for his constant melancholy and existential introspection. Yet he is also less reckless than his brothers and has a much wider perspective, and his thus dedicated to defending what little remainds on his father's legacy, attempting to preserve his father's extensive memoirs detailing how sad his own life had been. Far to the South of the wars that engulf the neon and metallic land is the frozen realm. At the head of its sparse population is the Ice Prince, a generally slippery and shady ruler. He attempts to play every side, reassuring them that he is indeed nice and that his freezing power could potentially be used as a biological weapon against the enemy. But this is all a ruse, as he muses to himself that, perhaps, one day all the realms will be cold, just like his, if he manuevers cunningly. A member of a cadet branch of the metallic dynasty, Steel was always resentful of the primary branch of his ancient lineage. He, like many others, viewed Copper as a weak ruler, unworthy of the metallic crown. He was always content to merely sit on the sidelines, silently maintaining his dynasty's power source, located deep in the remaining metallic lands. Yet the rising of Gold, not in support of himself but of his weak cousin Green, so enraged Steel that he decided to defect to the neons. Attempting to play Green and Red off each other, he makes both of them a tempting offer: access to the power source within Copper's kingdom. With such enormous power combined with the neons' skills and resources, whichever brother claimed it would likely win the civil war. However, the obvious untrustworthiness of Steel's offer leaves both brothers hesitant to take up his bargain, each waiting until the war develops to their advantage. Yet the war saw no end in sight; it dragged on for many years, wreaking untold destruction upon all the underground lands as no side was able to claim a decisive advantage: Green's ruthlessness and access to the resources of the neon kingdom, Red's powerful magic and small yet defensible area of the neon lands, and Gold's mighty unundead army all found themselves in stalemate. Perhaps those who suffered the most were the native inhabitants, mainly the trees. One of the most well-known victims was the Wood Skeleton, an ordinary tree who found himself at the crux between two rival armies. It is unknown at which battle he lost his family, yet an eyewitness's account of a raging forest fire indicates Red was liklely present, given his pyromantic skill. With his life in ashes, Wood Skeleton led a mighty rebellion of the woodfolk, which eventually caused most armies to withdraw from a small area of the woodland controlled by Wood's marauding bands of "freedom fighters." One of the most iconic pieces of art to come out of the eventual end of the war was the Lament of the Wall Skeleton. Told from the perspective of an ordinary soldier taken prisoner and tortured upon one of Green's infamous Death Walls. The Lament is of a very abstract nature, with the narrator's perspective on life and death being blurred. While he is hanged next to an enemy of his, a plush of the Western neon lands, likely having served in Red's army (leading many scholars to conclude the author had served in the metallic army), he lets this go, just musing on his lonely death. However, across the many years of the war itself, art and poetry declined precipitously. This is best exemplified by a well-known artifact recovered from the war, a short sonnet by an artist simply titled "Low Quality." Its lyrics are simple and written in a script that is somewhat difficult to read. Most of it is simply meandering, yet it ends with a resignated statement that the author didn't known how to end his miserable situation amidst the Great Wars. While Green's armies waged their vicious campaigns against Red, Gold, and eventually Wood, one skeleton in his cruel army came to prominence: Buff Skeleton. Buff was of a small noble house, long subjects of the neon kingdom. He was similar in temperament to Green, being violent and obsessed with war. However, he was also extremely physically capable, and thus quickly rose up the ranks of Green's armies, soon being his right-hand bones. But Buff knew he was much stronger than Green, yet lacked the support among the troops and the connections to attempt to overthrown the eldest neon. While Green had began the war in the strongest position, over time he became weaker and weaker. While Red controlled a rather small yet rich and defensible land, Green's domain spanned the vast stretches of the neon kingdom, with supply centers spread far. This, combined with Gold's near endless supply of unundead troops, gradually wore down Green's resources. Thus, he was forced to rely more and more on local criminal organizations, the most famous in pop culture being the Mafia Skeleton. Although modern scholars generally agree his impact on the war was minimal, he is still incredibly recognizable among the skeleton public for his menacing yet flamboyant personality, depicted in many postwar movies. Deep within the archives that Blue devotedly defends, his father, Black, is suddenly revived. It was likely due to the triggering of the archive's sophisticated robotic security system in response to Gold's attempt to storm the neon palace, the sole domain of Blue. While Black wishes he was dead twice, continuing to lament his miserable life, he is determined to protect his palace, although takes the time to berate his son once more, demanding he "not blather."
Part 2: The return of Black heralded a turning point in the war; Red swore fealty to his newly unundead father and pledged his magic army to his services. Yet Green refused to bow, swearing that this was a trick by the brother whom he hated and abused most, Blue. Black was a skilled strategist, but was far too fragile and emotionally unstable to serve on the battlefield, while Red was extremely powerful in a fight yet no general. Into Black's service walked one of the war's greatest commanders, the Badass Skeleton. A skeleton of humble origins, Badass had proven himself at numerous battles and was given supreme command of Black's forces. Launching a major offensive against both Gold and Green, Badass won numerous victories, bolstered by Buff attempted a coup against Green, aided by Mafia Skeleton. However, he began losing steam, as Green ferociously defeated Buff's coup, hanging him on a Death wall along with thousands of his co-conspirators. Green, infuriated by his coming defeat, offered the King in Gold most of his land in exchange for an alliance against Black, Red, and Blue. Although mistrustful, Gold knew that Green would be weak after the war and could be defeated then, and so accepted. Thus, a combined Green-Gold army decisively defeated the the Black army under Badass, a battle where Badass was to tragically be slain by Green himself. As the Green-Gold army marched on Black's palace, all seemed lost. However, Red, after having searched the old neon archives for many moons, found a last, desperate measure within the writings of the dynasty's first great general. Carrying out the forbidden ritual with his loyal brother, both Red and Blue sacrificed and combined themselves to resurrect the dynasty's founder, Purple Skeleton. Said to have been the only skeleton to rival the King in Gold, he had come from almost nothing and had created the great neon kingdom with his own two hands. Enraged at the bloodshed his descendants had wrought upon the realm he had forged and at the return of his rival, the King in Gold, the Purple Skeleton launched a desperate sortie from Black's palace against Green's army. In an epic battle to be remembered for all time, Purple and Green did battle, with Purple smiting Green upon the field where he had first led his army so many years ago. Purple, possessing both the magic of Red, the moral courage of Blue, and his own martial skill, decisively defeated the Green-Gold army, sending them howling back from Black's palace. As the King in Gold retreated, he knew that Copper would never survive against Purple, and thus selflessly surrendered himself to Purple in exchange for Copper's safety. Purple accepted and, brought the King in Gold in custody to Black's palace. It was there that he learned of Steel's treachery, and managed to send a covert message to Brown, still unundead, to finished off Steel to guarantee Copper's survivial. With his body literally falling to pieces, the legendary warrior managed to, just barely, kill the traitor before his own third death. As this happened, Purple marched forth and wiped out all remnants of Green's rebellion. Peace had finally come to the land. Although a brief power struggle between Black and Purple occurred, Black was senile and wished for his third death, while Purple could not be sustained in his resurrected form made of Blue's and Red's bodies for long. In the end, a hapless bystander, the charismatic and charming Distracted Skeleton, was chosen by popular vote as the new ruler of the now neon republic. Although he was extraordinarily incompetent, he is remembered fondly as the man who helped bring a lasting peace, negotiating non-aggression pacts with Copper and Ice. So went the Great Skeleton Wars. May the twice-dead rest in peace. And don't ask how long this took to write.

This sounds too good. I actually like this probably more than I should especially because of the fact that the skeletons each have their own voices and personalities
Ok here is the lore I have gathered Purple: part of the oldest group of skeletons, who I will be referring to as “the alloys” from now on. He was bullied in his childhood by the other alloys due to not being made of metals like the rest of them. Eventually, all that anger overtook purple, and he vowed to destroy every alloy. He’s nearly succeeded. Rust/copper The oldest of any of the skeletons, and one of the few surviving alloys. He was there the day purple attacked, and barely made it out with his life, hence why he’s rusted over, and goes by rust rather than copper these days. He’s presumed dead, but really he’s been in hiding for decades, both to avoid purple’s fury, and to avoid facing his past as purple’s biggest bully. He believes himself to be the sole cause of purple’s outburst, and is depressed and racked with survivors guilt as a result. I’m tired I’ll maybe finish writing this later
"Trapped in my little car, here we are, suffering for no real cause I'm a skeleton, white and thin, I have no melanin I can't reach the gas pedal, this ain't metal wish I was much taller Come back when you've got, some more gas. (vroom vroom vroom)" I stuck a little rubber skeleton into a Lego stock car I built a while back, his name is Jeremy.
The song starts with a copper skeleton a shell of his former self bumming it in a tomb somewhere deep underground. Next the Green Skeleton declares his evil intentions. He is opposed by the Red Skeleton who is joined by the Gold Skeleton, who intends to raise an army against him. The Gold skeleton uses his golden runes to raise the Brown skeleton to help them. They try to request the help of the Blue and Ice skeletons, Blue can't help due to depression and Ice refuses out of moral superiorty. Suddenly a mysterious Steel skeleton offers the evil Green a source of power. Red, Gold, and Brown attempt a final stand against him but with his new powers, Green transforms them into ineffective forms. Gold is transformed into wood, lamenting their failed uprising. Brown is hung upon the wall with a being it hates. And Red, the leader, is tranfromed into sad Low quality form... Green Skeleton mocks them with his new Buff form. However, Steel's offer had a caveat, it empowered any Skeletons who were not on Red's size. The rejuvenated Copper skeleton appears, now revealed to have been a powerful Mafia boss. He is joined by Blue, now Black, using his depression as a source of power, and Ice, having melted into a Badass form, no longer having the qualms he once had. Green/Buff transforms into the almighty Purple skeleton. No one quite knows how the battle ends... Also theres a skeleton who got distracted.
i like how the last skeleton is like its fine. He doesnt want to waste the others times all because he didnt pay attention and the others all change their attitude and seem to be being nice by allowing him to still do his verse.

in response, a defensive army of metal skeletons is raised and led into battle to protect the realm by Gold, one of the oldest skeletons and one of the original enemies of Purple (Purple says "I'd recognize you anywhere" and Gold is the most likely candidate, being the only other army leader).
Many are asking for the "lore" on the skeletons. Thus, I have added here an abridged version of "The Verse of the Skeleton: A Comprehensive Account of the Great Skeleton Wars" by Historian Skeleton.
Part 1 (see comments for Part 2):
The curtain rises on the Copper Skeleton, youngest of the metallics, often mocked for his appearance, ruling over the last vestiges of the old metallic realm.
With his life in ashes, Wood Skeleton led a mighty rebellion of the woodfolk, which eventually caused most armies to withdraw from a small area of the woodland controlled by Wood's marauding bands of "freedom fighters."
One of the most iconic pieces of art to come out of the eventual end of the war was the Lament of the Wall Skeleton.
Part 2:
The return of Black heralded a turning point in the war; Red swore fealty to his newly unundead father and pledged his magic army to his services.

Gold actually sounds like papyrus, not lying though.
I love how Papyrus has no canon voice but everybody Just imagines him to have Skeletor's voice
Ok here is the lore I have gathered
Purple: part of the oldest group of skeletons, who I will be referring to as “the alloys” from now on. He was bullied in his childhood by the other alloys due to not being made of metals like the rest of them. Eventually, all that anger overtook purple, and he vowed to destroy every alloy. He’s nearly succeeded.
Rust/copper
The oldest of any of the skeletons, and one of the few surviving alloys.
This is a sign to finish writing this
Another sign
Another sign to finish this

Nah, that's because low quality have an aura of bad quality around him. I think it affect another skeleton too.

Come back when you've got, some more gas. (vroom vroom vroom)"
I stuck a little rubber skeleton into a Lego stock car I built a while back, his name is Jeremy.
11:31 I feel bad for skeleton.
6:11 this is the best one

i like how the last skeleton is like its fine. He doesnt want to waste the others times all because he didnt pay attention and the others all change their attitude and seem to be being nice by allowing him to still do his verse.
I like how blue buff and mafia have a lower quality mic than 16 bits
