My old dad used to knit -- socks and Fairisle jumpers. Now as I turn into my father in my old age I've started knitting. The socks have happened already, and no doubt the Fairisle jumpers are just a matter of time.
So one of my best friends is in federal prison in America. Apparently they crochet there and i think they sell the stuff they make. He is very proud of what he makes. I know crochet is diff then knit, but even in modern day America, some of the manliest men do needle crafts. Needle crafts r not just for women but for anyone.
Second. Also, David Canterbury does knitting/crochet as well as sewing and he's one of the manliest survivalists on RUclips in addition to being a military veteran. To him, the ability to repair or make clothing is just part of being able to be successful in a postapocalyptic/long term survival situation.
Not only way back that men we're basically the only one can become knitting masters in a guild (which was already a challenge in itself, usually its some sort of huge tapestry in a short amount of time). They had women work underneath them for making items. However women could only do the simple things. Let's say a sock: women could knit the cuff, leg, and the heel flap. Then the work would be taken to to master to knit the heel turn and gusset. Then he would hand back to the women to knit the foot to the toe and then back to the master to close off the toe. They just believed women wouldn't know or even capable to learn how to do the techniques. Oh have the tables have turned
I do like the video! Women of Ravelry should also find this interesting and reflective of social trends and changes. Men knit!! Humans knit!! So much of value in understanding that all individuals can do it with talent and motivation. I learned long ago. My sons have successfully knitted. My older son was active in the military serving in surveillance. He was allowed to crochet when he sat watching the horizon. When some comrades died due to running over a bomb, the fellow soldiers joined in to calm and steady their nerves. There is a picture of them sitting in the back of the truck with needlework.
Thanks for publicising the fact that people from all genders/ groups knitted. Not sure why it has to be called "manly" when it was not just men either. Also, yes, obviously CIS men cannot breastfeed but they can certainly do their bit of sharing childcare duties, even of infants... men can change pampers and rock infants to sleep, right ;)
Unfortunately there is still a stigma attached to men knitting. I'm very proud of being a very accomplished male knitter and am regularly asked to knit aran sweaters for my family, someting I live to do and find it a great reliever of stress. I'm also pretty good at crochet!
Social commentary & knitting. Another illustrative & entertaining video!! This is why I subb'd :) Side question: Why have you hidden your sub count Ferret?

Knitting is an open art. Its not tied to just gender, race, or age group! Yarn nerds Unite!!
Nothing should be, isnt it?
Thus, women who knit are cool and powerful as well ;)

There is a pair of socks from ancient Egypt.
Do those 11th century socks have a pattern?
My first thought when I think about knitting is a grandma from SpongeBob knitting

Infants require the attendance of both parents to survive, so.. That's the actual nature of humans if one wants to refer to thousands of years ago:)
Knitting is cool. Doesn't matter who does it! 😎

Hard to understand due to your accent. The only thing you talked most was gender...Male vs female ...👎👎
