Hey 皆, glad to have you here watching this new video! I found this topic extremly interesting on first encounter, and it only became more intruidging the more I looked into it. Hope you enjoy. I'd like to note that the geisha world, as relatively secretive as it is, can be a sort of sensative subject. If you feel like I got anything wrong or you'd like to add anything here in the comments, please feel free. For example, it should be mentioned that the mizuage, easily the most controversial "tradition" within the world of Flower and Willow, was far from a universal practice, and has been described by many geisha of the previous century as purely ceremonial. Others, however, have described it as a very literal process. It seems to have varied between geisha houses, regions, and time periods.
13:34 Get mixed up Shiga and Saga prefectures? Me too Noah, me too. I bet you get mixed up also with the kanji, 滋賀 and 佐賀... Anyway, great video Noah! The post-war Japan always fascinating me, but I briefly studied it for an exam at my university. Keep it up with this contents!
What a legend - she was brave, powerful, and so incredibly talented. Thank you UJ for covering this story!! I love the new editing style! 12/10 video, I enjoyed it so so much!!!
Yes I'm used to reading UJ or getting similar content via podcast, but consuming this via video was excellent. There's a clip (~32:00) showing a man ushering a woman out of a building and their mannerisms could not be more mismatched - his, nonchalant and confident; hers, abject and utterly humiliated. Meanwhile the crowd flows past unperturbed, and a key theme of the video plays out in miniature, no words necessary. Then there is a series of jump cuts highlighting sensational headlines, but also the fruit advertisement in the corner, at once funny but appropriately repulsive at the same time. Nice work.
Great video, thank you! One quick note about that model of microphone, the Blue Yeti - it's not designed for people to talk "into the tip", but from the front towards the side with the logo and mute button.
Today I learned the MC's guide from a certain manga I read yet a new chapter just came out too in some hours ago, have problem with a geisha..😂 Thank you for bringing up an amusing piece of lore about him!
21 minutes in, and besides learning the history of everyone and their mother, I've hardly seen any footage of the scandal. I'm out to do some research on this topic.

Thanks! very helpful - will certainly keep that in mind for my next video.
I hope you make more vids on Japanese prime ministers
It’ll happen! Most likely candidates are Kishi Nobusuke, Maruyama, and Tanaka.
Great video ♥️

Interesting video.
What movie was that used as footage? The one around 5:55
Thanks for watching! That would be Ageman: Tales of a Golden Geisha by director Itami Juzo.
