I spoke with Dwight About 10 years ago when he called to handle a personal business matter at my then job. He was so respectful and humble. One on my most memorable clients. He truly is a cool dude. Inside and out!
I think Prince would have loved this. He hated being a human jukebox and always experimented with different interpretations of his music. He would have absolutely gotten into this and would probably sent him down a completely different direction creatively. What a wonderful tribute.
I always thought back in 84, Purple Rain sounded Country, but back then it was ridiculous to say out loud. Now I hear it in Country and it makes sense…WHO KNEW…?!?!? OH YEAH, I DID…IN 84…😁👍🇺🇸
Well, Prince asked his keyboardist why People kept coming back to see Bob Seger concerts. His answer, because he had a ballad for white people. That Prince needed to make a white person ballad. So he did in the way only Prince could've.
I absolutely love when an artist takes a chance and does something from a different "genre". It's all just music people. I think this would have made "The Artist" smile.
Very Thoughtful of Dwight and his awesome band for this beautiful song bye an all time awesome artist singer as Prince was..His music still lives on.Great Job Dwight..
Putting this out to the Dwight Universe, going to see him Friday & taking my BFF - this may be her last Dwight concert & I am heartbroken but we will dance, laugh & sing!!!
I remember listening to an interview with Dwight Yoakum back in 2016. he was talking about how his band came to do this. They were rehearsing omething else when word came in that Prince had died: "I just looked at them and said 'Purple Rain' and we played it."
A lot of people try to put themselves and others in genres. I’m a GenX who listed to everything from bluegrass to punk, a lot of blurred lines. Dwight paying tribute is really nice. He is one of my favorites. An original.
I took my sister to see her favorite musician (Dwight) back in 89. She Promised me she would go with me to see my favorite musician (Prince). She didn't go with me but we Prince fans partied in Oakland California in 1989 with Prince ft. Sheila E on drums. I'm a drummer so it was a bonus for me. .......RIP Prince.
I just love Dwight singing almost everything...from way back & “1000 Miles From Nowhere” to his Bluegrass CD “Swimming Pools, Movie Stars....” ~ cool title for a CD! Dwight’s always been cool!! 😎❤️😘 I saw him live in about ‘18 - great show of course!!! ❤️🌈💕😎❤️🌈
I remember all the DJ's back in 1984 playing this song would always cut the song short and ticked me off. I wanted t hear that last bit of guitar. Dwight nailed it here.
In no way to take away from Mr. Yoakum, check out the cover that Leroy Justice did of this. It is most beautiful and it is what led me to Dwight's cover. ❤
At what?? There is actually nothing musically Dwight can do better than Prince . Just say you like him as a person better. Dwight doesn’t have the vocal range or instrumental skills of Prince. Im a fan of both , but anyone who knows music knows it’s not even close.
Crossings musical genres is so very, very important.Total and utter respect for Mr. Yoakam. This world is currently heading for a very grim world indeed. A simple tribute by Mr.D counts a whole lot more than the idiots like Trump & Putin can generate.

Name anyone else in country music that could pull this off. Dwight is the king of cool.

I'd love to see Steve Earle give it a shot!

Love it when artists interpret music across genres.

I've been in that position before. Like anything else, free thinking applies to music.

I wish prince and Dwight got to meet.
Perhaps they had
They will
@@shadowstalker6762 Yes, they will. ❤
@@atheistconservative6211 Right? Who said they never did...I'd imagine they'd both have a lot of respect for each other's music/style.
Dwight Yoakam is one of the most talented artists of all time. Period.
Two of my all time favorites.
A lot of people try to put themselves and others in genres. I’m a GenX who listed to everything from bluegrass to punk, a lot of blurred lines. Dwight paying tribute is really nice. He is one of my favorites. An original.

I listened to Dwight when I was a teen, and now my kids listen to Post Malone who sings about listening to Dwight.
You know, it could be worse...
At least Post is pointing them in a direction.
Not a fan, but that's alright in my books.

I was alive in the 80s but not a fan of Prince, Dwight is way more talented.
At what?? There is actually nothing musically Dwight can do better than Prince . Just say you like him as a person better. Dwight doesn’t have the vocal range or instrumental skills of Prince. Im a fan of both , but anyone who knows music knows it’s not even close.
@@michaelwhite4423 Ridiculous. Dwight is the greatest musician in the history of music. How dare you, sir.

dead audience, great song
I don't think they appreciated music from that type of musician.
Somethings don't need to be touched Yeah I said it. And yes I do love Dwight Yoakam but not him singing this song 😅
the sentiment was WELL placed...but NOPE!!
Please go be foolish somewhere else. Thank you.
