  • Hi everyone.
On this weeks video, we clean up plot 2, tidy up the compost area and pop up some fly screen netting on the greenhouse.
At home, I also cleaned up in front of the poly tunnel. It looks so different but gave me more room to play with too.
Tomatoes on plot 1 needed tightening up and we have just left them to crack on. leeks planted out in the old carrot bed so hopefully they won't get any alium leaf miner!
Plot 2 tomatoes were also taken out and the peppers so we could get the new bench in. It'll stay as it is for now but will be a potting bench ready for next year.

Oh no! Really to hear you aren't well. Hope you are feeling better soon! I know there is a lot of whooping cough and covid cases being recorded atm. Hope you are resting well.
Some nice broccoli and potatoes there and you look very organised and tidy. I feel so behind on tidying up stuff.
Not too late for pak choi. I have sown white stem and will also direct sow Shanghi. 45 days for white stem and also sow pak choi shanghi every 2-3 weeks. I have put on my notes - moderately hardy. We can get down to -6c in Jan in London and it is still there. Normally gets eaten by slugs at that point though as i only have bird netting and not garden mesh on the crate and goes to seed the following year. I cook the leaves and stems separately.
Yes sweet peas are like normal peas but are classed as ornamental. They like to be dead headed or you can pick the flower stems, towards the end of season you let them pod to save seeds for next year. We have had trouble with ours and squirrels on our first lot. We then finally got our new hanging baskets but had to direct sow again late. They are two foot/ 60cm high now in the baskets, no flowers as no real sun. This year was totally our bad for not getting the new baskets sooner and trying the winter sowing method in Jan in milk bottles. Going back to what i know best and direct seeding them like i have done so for decades.
Our sweet bell california wonders are doing great being outside this year but are also getting eaten by something. Might be baby catapilers as i as seen some small holes. They are so late though and found loads on our kale.
Our indoor chilli's somehow got white fly! Lots of little bugs about and not so many predators like ladybirds.
Ah Rach would have done TTS text to speech at that point! I use a lot of stem ginger when making our rhubarb, orange and ginger jam. I save some of the ginger syrup and ginger husks. I have sinus and hayfever problems and our kid also has similar issues, which also affects the throat. You can also buy fresh ginger and grate for ginger, honey and lemon tea. Let it steep/soak in boiled water until warm. Golden syrup and lemon juice bottle also works for a cheaper alternative. You can also reduce the liquid down for a syrup. Doesn't replace Dr's advice/ medicine but helps the throat.
Love Jakemans cherry flavour but not the sugar block against the teeth. I wonder how quick they dissolve in a small amount of boiling water or smashed up in a bag? Salt water rinses are the best bet but maybe these might help in between normal drinking water?
Anyway, would ask your GP about those options to be safe for you...
When you get a chance and feel better, would love to know where you got the screen from and is it magnetic? Ta I am looking at magnetic strips for windows and doors to keep the mozzies out! Been bitten head to toe mainly on my back in bites! Was late night harvesting potatoes and re planting in the cooler temps of the day as i can't do heat in a maxi dress. Been a while since i last had to get bite cream even on my ar$e! lol Proper swollen too as i always have a reaction.
Take care Rach and rest up! x

Definitely nowt wrong with those Pentland Javelins Rach. Whats the yellow cherries you mentioned, not honeycomb by any chance are they, if so they have me addicted 🤣🤣. You could always sow some pak choi now, Chillis look good 👍. I have had a mare with my Brocollis this season so i have just sown some more. I hate earwigs, horrible little things what they are. Love the dinky carrots and the main thing is that they will go on your plate. Hope you feel better really soon. 👍
