Staging equipment is a great idea! Especially if you have to work by yourself. Huge time-saver! I am growing in bees like you , good luck I will keep watching
"I was blessed and I said a prayer." Brother, more power to you! This is awesome to hear! I pray over my hives quite frequently! God bless you brother! These bees are one of God's most fascinating and wonderful creations!
@@Ashby_Farms_NC Exactly! God was good and patient while I learned I am just a steward and a location host for the girls. They know what they are doing as that is how they were created. Once I understood that, it became much easier...lol
This was my first video of yours I've watched since seeing you on Brucesbees channel. Good stuff, liked and subscribed here in the Midlands of South Carolina!
WOW they all look like they are coming around very well . I found one last week that something happened to the queen an working on it now an today I did not have my glasses but it looked like it may be a drone layer so will have to deal with it after all the rain that is coming in . I did add boxes today because I have FULL boxes of bees . As always thanks for all your info . THANKS
@@Ashby_Farms_NC I have one yard that the Bowes are full of drones an the other yard I have found very very few drones . Kind of odd but I just guess that shows just how different things can be . Also these yards are around three miles away from each other the way the crow flys . THANKS
Hey, you're in Burlington? Fantastic! I just finished the new beekeeping course from the Guilford county association. I'm thinking I may start this next year. I'll sub, for sure. Keep it up. I'd love to learn.
Hey ash why not get some divider frames for the small 3 framers and push it to the feeder to block off that extra area were they have just the small space instead of that large space
I got 2 hives that would destroy me if I opened them up at 7:30 on an overcast day. But I guess when you have that many hives you don't have the luxury of waiting for better weather or ideal time of day.
You know I smash that like. I don't believe anyone likes to get stung. I'm wondering if I get nuc will I be able to make nuc splits off them this summer. And them winter them in nucs?
Absolutely! Bee either make honey or make splits. You can likely pull two nucs. One in June and another in July. Just make sure you’re feeding them and they’ll grow!
@Ashby Farms NC thank you Ashby I had order 2 nuc before I found your channel. I still might get a nuc from you. See how the money goes. I'd rather have bees that come from my state.
Single deep and feed for about 20ish days, until the box is 80-90% full. If bees have too much room they can feel overwhelmed and actually slows down their progress.
Howd you find my truck 1500 miles away..LOL... another great vid...I think all bee keepers trucks look and smell the same.....And the door hinges are all wore out...8>]
They’ll propolize what cracks they want shut. It’s actually a “happy accident” to quote Bob Ross. It allows airflow throughout winter. The bees defend the cracks, and rain doesn’t seem I bother them at all. All my wooden ware is wax dipped so the rain rolls right off.
My wife uses alot of duct tape for paints and gloves even though she has bee gloves. Still tape. Chech you veil for tears if old coat.. not good getting tear in veil screen

Thanks for following along! I’ve got a video about this coming out later this week!
Very good explanation on equalization and transferring nukes to full size equipment. Nice thanks.
Thank you for the compliment and thanks for following along!

Glad to help! We’re just trying to get to mid March when there’s enough drones to make good queens

Thanks for the video. Brood patterns are marvelous. I may have missed the info of what genetics your bees are.
You are welcome! We run mainly Italian with a touch of Carni
Hi Ashby!! Another great video! My friend and I are on the list waiting for your nucs to be ready. Very excited and looking forward to this year.!!
Me too! And yes I’ve got ya on the list. Thanks for following along!

Keep the Videos coming. There great
Glad you like them!
Got alot of wine corks from friends when I was making wind chimes from wine bottles. Another hobby cutting bottles
Sounds awesome!
Looking good sir! I’m anxious
Me too!
Good job Ashby! Good stuff
Thanks for watching and your kind words!
great video keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Love your channel. Keep it up.
Much appreciated! Thanks for watching!
Hey ash why not get some divider frames for the small 3 framers and push it to the feeder to block off that extra area were they have just the small space instead of that large space
Instead I use brood from the strong hives to build up the weak ones. That helps pull the strong ones back to stop swarming
Love the video, looking forward to the bee year!
Can't wait!
Great job
Thanks
Great Video!
Glad you enjoyed it

Ashby, I have two nucs coming in April/May. Just starting. Do I put those into a single deep each or go immediately to a double deep?
Single deep and feed for about 20ish days, until the box is 80-90% full. If bees have too much room they can feel overwhelmed and actually slows down their progress.

That’s right!!!!
I love the Christian testimony. God is good. It seems like a lot of beekeepers are christians. I love Jesus.
Dang right!
What are you using for boxes? looks like you have 5/4" lumber. What is the wood species?
It’s custom milled 1” thick 1x12x16 Carolina yellow pine.
Love your boxes... Are your boxes dipped in wax??
Yes! We dip our own!
How does the top covers with multiple boards not leak into the brood box
They do leak. And the bees propolize it if they want to.
Get a wine cork or just put note pad to cut the air off but it still smells. Most time I plug and put in 5 gal. Bucket with lid
Great idea!
Great!
Thanks!
Those lids… the hive doesn’t get wet and die?
They’ll propolize what cracks they want shut. It’s actually a “happy accident” to quote Bob Ross. It allows airflow throughout winter. The bees defend the cracks, and rain doesn’t seem I bother them at all. All my wooden ware is wax dipped so the rain rolls right off.
Look at all that cap brood. Man that hive gonna blow up fast.
That’s what I’m scared of!!!!!
I breed for gummy bees, I got my stock from Coy bee company, where did you get your original stock from? I love my Russians!
Originals came from HoneyStrong. Plus about 30 swarms from my 3 county area.
What brand are those work gloves?
Just leather from Lowe’s
My wife uses alot of duct tape for paints and gloves even though she has bee gloves. Still tape. Chech you veil for tears if old coat.. not good getting tear in veil screen
Duct tape will fix anything! WD-40 will get anything apart!
Bees are more aggressive at night. We made that mistake and I was stung about 23 times.
For sure! Red lights only!
Are your bees carniolan?
Italian with a touch of Carni
11 frame boxes ? nine frames and feeder
I build mine custom 1/2” wider than industry standard. That way when full of ten frames, the bees can police the outside walls for hive beetles.
@@Ashby_Farms_NC I knew it! I was thinking I had to go back to school. 1 + 1 = 2
It looked like a lot of your boxes were thicker than 3/4 board
Most are 1”
i sometimes see my smoker smoking in the van... not good
I can relate!
