Shideh (Narges Rashidi) and her family live amid the chaos of the Iran-Iraq war, a period known as The War of the Cities. Accused of subversion by the post-Revolution government and blacklisted from medical college, she falls into a state of malaise. With Tehran under the constant threat of aerial bombardment, her husband (Bobby Naderi) is drafted and sent to the frontlines by the army, leaving Shideh all alone to protect their young daughter, Dorsa (Avin Manshadi). Soon after he leaves, a missile hits their apartment building and while failing to explode, a neighbor dies under mysterious circumstances and Dorsa’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic.
Shideh finds herself slowly drawn into the ensuing turmoil, struggling to cling onto what is real and what is not. Searching for answers, she learns from a superstitious neighbor that the cursed missile might have brought with it Djinn - malevolent Middle-Eastern spirits that travel on the wind. Convinced that a supernatural force within the building is attempting to possess Dorsa, Shideh has no choice but to confront these forces if she is to save her daughter and herself.

The mom, she's ignorant, self centred person, just a terrible character. She's so bad, I started to think the child would be safer with the ghost. She was constantly making the worst possible decision.
She doesn't listen to her husband, her child the neighbours. I still believe the ghost was just trying to save the child from her own mother.
I've watched conjuring and Annabel and such, and they were scary but under the shadow is the only scary movie that made me scream! :D and it makes you sick with fear. Couldn't watch it more than once or twice.
Yes! It was such a unique form of horror, it actually made my heart race and made me feel uneasy which almost no other film has done.

@ariararia funny, my wife and I recognise it as one of the top films from Iranian soil.
The film saddened the heart, then it made it tick really fast, then it almost broke it, but moved it.
But whatever, even the snobs loved it so who am I even talking to?
Just finished the movie. It was okay. It was cool seeing how people live in another country. There was only maybe 5 scary scenes and they didn't last long. 90% of the movie was just people living their lives. It's quite a slow burner. The only thing I liked was seeing another county's life style but other than that, the movie was not good. You probably won't like it but I did.
Yes and there is the social commentary, and cinematography and amazing sound design. Such a brilliant plot, so well acted. Amazing script and score and yes, it is not just a "horror" movie. It's a good movie that happens to be thrilling and suspenseful and at times scary as f__k!

Because don't you get nauseous when the lip sync is off? It takes 2 second to read per 7 sec scenes. Take the effort!

I’m sorry, but I thought the special effects were kind of bad with the person running around with the sheet and then that set of teeth underneath the blanket that look like human teeth. I’m sorry I just didn’t find this movie to be that great.🤷🏻♀️

First of all, why wouldn't she leave the house because of an ordinary toy, how is the toy more important than their lives, why would a child that isn't possessed behave rudely and badly to her mom, she even attacked her at some point, what was she fixing everything with a paper tape including a broken roof. It's such a terrible movie frfr

My thoughts exactly and yeah I don’t know why she was putting tape on the ceiling I I don’t know what she was thinking She was going to accomplish with that and I did not think the special effects were that great.. somebody running around with a sheet …I don’t know not my thing personally I think it could’ve been better. The acting was OK though.
Dude this movie sucked, 3rd Rate CGI and the story had no good conclusion, I get that it's a psychological horror but you should at least put some substance into the film. I am sure I had watched it once before but couldn't remember anything about it because it made no impact at all. Watched it again and I know why.

I thought it was probably one of the worst horror movies I’ve seen in a very long time… I mean they tried. They should’ve just stuck with the story with the missile because the whole ghost thing was a bit silly to me, especially the set of teeth in the bed. What was that all about?! 😂 human teeth at that.. I don’t know I just thought that was silly.
This movie is trash!!!! Don’t let these people lie to u!! The lips aren’t sync and the acting is terrible. There’s nothing scary about this movie at all!!!!

I didn't like the movie either but there were scary scenes, that attack on the mother in the bedroom fucking terrified me. Although the character of the mother annoyed me so much.
For you it is like a trash but for us it’s a bad memory of Iran war. 😢😢
