Here I'll describe one scene from Blackkklansman where they show the film Birth of a Nation. Two films about racism, one that supports it and the one that condemns it. See what is Birth of a Nation's place in Blackkklansman as Spike Lee attempts to destroy the legacy that D.W. Griffith's silent epic left on America.

It's a shame we're still dealing with these racial problems when so much has been done to improve the lives of others. Sadly, as much as society wants to fix things, if the people don't change, problems will remain the same.
Also, Blackkklansman was a great movie (though I thought the ending was a little heavy-handed for my liking) and Birth of a Nation is easily the most racist thing I've ever seen. Strangely, dated movies like Gone With the Wind and Song of the South are movies I still enjoy because of how well-intentioned they are, but they do have their flaws due to the stereotypings of the times and I can see why some dismiss some of the dated aspects.
I do find it fascinating when you mentioned that the old racist films should be preserved because of its history, because of the recent news I saw of some states (including my own in Virginia) removing Confederate monuments in response to the recent riots. As much as I see where these leaders are coming from as far as attempting to stop false worship I guess of controversial pieces of history, it reminds me of what happens when you censor/ban a film. You're essentially removing a piece of history (whether good or not) and claiming it doesn't exist to protect the people, and I think that's a mistake when trying to educate on past history and trying to improve on the future. By removing pieces of a time gone by where so much bad, evil, and hate happened, these leaders are trying to erase the past and acting like it never happened, which I think is a huge mistake. Historical artifacts (and movies), whether good or bad, should be preserved to teach people the rights and wrongs of society, where we can look at our past mistakes and strive to make a better future where all are equal.
America I do think has a great system which was created; it's just people abuse the system and people are hurt in the process, which is unfortunate. Praying things do change for the innocents which are struggling and hope positive things come as a result of recent events.
