I have PPF on the high contact areas and a ceramic seal on the rest of the car. I do not use a sponge or micro fiber cloth to wash my car thus preventing scratch or swirl marks. I use a pressure washer with a foam cannon attachment. I pressure spray the vehicle removing all of the top dirt, then I use the foam cannon to coat the vehicle with soap. I let it sit for a minute or so to dissolve/lift all the dirt off the car. I use a product (cyber soap w/gloss enhancers) that was provided by the company Alset that applied the PPF and ceramic coating. After a minute or so I pressure wash the soap off of the vehicle then use a fiber cloth to dry the vehicle. I never touch my Tesla with sponge or wash cloth. My Tesla comes out spotless and it takes about 15 minutes to wash and dry the car!
Jeremiah - THANK YOU for all of your helpful, thorough, and educational videos! I pickup my first Tesla model Y this Wednesday, and am super excited. Your videos helped educate me a lot...and I just ordered the car wash recommendations you had. Thanks again and keep up the great work! --Scott Holdraker
I used your method to wash my Tesla. I was very pleased with the results. I purchased the products you recommended and again the results were very satisfactory.
First off, thank you for an incredibly well-done and educational video. Followed your instructions to a T and the results were stunning. NO swirls, no tiny scratches. I personally could use a little work on my optiseal step; I think my car was still too wet when I applied it the first time, so dried a bit and repeated. Your approach saves a TON of time and water compared to how I remember washing our cars as a kid like 30 years ago. It’s quick enough to do this monthly or as needed. Thank you!
Hi Jeremiah, I’ve had my model 3 for 8 days now and I’ve washed twice with your technique, it is both brilliant and efficient. I just wanted to thank you, Cheers Jon
Instead of a trigger sprayer, I use a solo 418 2L Pump Sprayer, very compact, easy to pump up, much easier for the pre-soak than the trigger sprayers I used to use. I also like to use the Garry Dean wash method, basically sub the big red sponge for 8 to 10 clean 400-500gsm microfibers like the Eagle Edgeless soaked in ONR solution. Do only one pass in one direction per side of the rag, fold it until all sides are used, set it aside (not back in the wash solution) and move on to the next clean rag, using as many as needed to cover the whole vehicle.
Great tutorial! I washed my new model Y for the first time in my garage while it was very cold outside. This method is quick & works fantastic. When will you have an interior cleaning video? Thanks
Just washed my new 2024 Model Y ultra red today using the method and products you described. End result was fantastic. Car looks like it just came off the showroom floor. Only question I have is about cleaning the microfiber towels. Do you just throw them in the washer or is it best to hand wash them? Thanks!
cool advise. yeah been doing one bucket for a long while YOU ADVISES ARE SPOT ON with what I do as well (except maybe for the type of towels and how we clean tires and wheel). its very safe. you can also add a little more product as well into the bucket for extra slickness :)
My system: make ONR solution, put 4 microfiber cloths in it, take one out, fold in half three times (8 surfaces), use each surface as you would the sponge, and retire that cloth. Cloth never goes back in the bucket, no grit guard needed.
WASH METHOD NOTES Top to bottom, front to back. I just got my Model Y and plan on PPF. I live in Virginia and during the winter we get a lot of road salt. During the rest of the year it's just road dirt and the occasional mud here or there. I have an electric pressure washer and personally I like to rinse prior to loosen dirt or remove some heavier dirt around the wheel well area. I then plan to use a foam canon. For washing I have washing gloves. Then I rinse with the pressure washer. I like those towels you have so I may get some of those. Essentially I want something that is going to soak up water on the first pass or two. I love the idea of keeping a spray bottle of cleaner in the car. During road trips I may need to clean crap off the car or windshield. I think bids have a sixth sense about clean cars. When your car is dirty they don't poop on it but as soon as you clean it they dive bomb your car.
Just used this method and worked amazing! One thing to note: I did the wheel wash on my uberterbine performance wheels (not tires) and they were FILTHY AT 350 miles, especially the front ones. The performance breaks seem to put out way more dust, given I’ve only been driving on dry California roads for two weeks
I have over 100k miles on my 2016 Model S and it is over 6 years old. My paint looks quite good and people are convinced my car is much newer than it looks. I use a car wash year round, and it does the job perfectly.
for seats i use autoglym leather cleaner, a soft sponge, two towels and a spraybottle with purified water. (very important to use super clean water) outside i use snowfoam, powerwash, degreaser, powerwash and lastly wax spray and dry. takes 15-minutes plus rigging and tidying up. :)
I work where a lot of iron oxide particles fall onto my tesla. Do you think I could use this same method, or should I do something extra to remove them?
Thanks! Great video. Question: I didn’t see you using the 300 and 350 towels. What are they for? How do you clean your towels? Any special treatment there? Thanks!
Jeremiah, you make it look so easy to wash a car. I tried this method, but I had one problem. I have never washed my previous automobiles with any regularity. I am 5 feet 7 inches and so I cannot reach over the top of the Model Y. I tried using a ladder but that was still cumbersome. Any suggestions.
Good morning… watched this helpful video and ordered all you recommended. Just followed all your instructions on my recently received 2023 Model Y Performance with the pearl white paint and black interior. Wow! Worked perfectly, and has that detailer smell…. Thank you so much….
I tried your method today for the first time with the products you mentioned. I love the results. I appreciate you spending the time to make this video. One question, does the ONR work fine on the glass? What about rainex on the roof? What is your recommendation for cleaning, windows and mirrors? I appreciate your help. Thank you.
It works amazing on the windows and roof. No streaks and had some rain after washing (always the way) that dried without spots. I use the spray bottle with extra ONR mixture and microfiber on my windows between washes.
Tried this method with all the products listed and I struggled with bugs and larger pollen specks. These things solidify on the car and I couldn’t take them off even with an ONR pre-rinse. Anyone have good ideas on how to do this? I ended up running a bit harder with the red sponge and sometimes used my nail to break it apart.
I guess this might work for a relatively clean car…. But in my area cars are gritty dirty and this would result in immediate scratches in the paint. Grit must be blasted off first in my area…. Think lots a first roads and blowing decomposed granite.
I have ONR, it’s great, but may strip down ceramic coating. Honestly, the waterless car wash by chemicals guys & Meguires works great! I have the white seats all you need is soap and water. They held up good 👍
I 100% hand wash my lrm3 as well as our Y. We have both cars 100% PPF wrap also. We invested a lot of money into these cars and so I treat the cars as well as I can. Hence both cars will be pristine for as long as we open them. I am happy to hear any added tips. Thx for your video! I currently use the two bucket method with a mitt. Dry with microfiber towels and I tend to throw out the towels after a certain number of uses esp. if car was dirty. I normally wash my tesla every 2-3 weeks and the Y every month. I’m between I use Aero Cosmetics Wash Wax All waterless wash solution.
Just ordered carbon fiber spoiler for my M3. I wash my car like your recommendation. Before installing the CF spoiler, what should I use to clean off your suggested spray wax. Love how it looks after washing. Thanks
I see you say you do use a power washer in the winter. Can I just confirm that taking a power washer straight to your car with dried on dirt won’t cause scratches when you blast the bits of dirt off?
What do you suggest? Do you recommend still putting a sealant or wax even having the ceramic coating? I recently got my Tesla and I did a ceramic coating over it using NexGen. It has been part of my family for ages and has worked very well with me and my family. I certainly love the one-bucket method. Definitely would want to try the ONR when I clean my car next time.
So you don’t prerinse the car with a hose at all? We get so much salt in the Winters in New England, it can get practically caked on which is why I like to prerinse the heavy stuff off before starting.
I just tried this method and the nice thing is that it's dry enough to do inside your garage, but yeah, if my car gets really muddy or salty I think it makes sense to pressure wash or hose it off first.
I followed your directions, with recommended products on my white/white M3 and it looks great. Did you get your white/white tesla? I did have an issue with cleaning the bug etc off the front of my car. In addition to rinsing the sponge each time do you do anything else after you’re finished?
Great video, I used all your links. I would like to see you make a video for how to clean the interior w/products you used, how to get the tires to be back to black shine w/products you use, and on how you machine wash your microfiber towels and any other tools.
Hey Jeremiah. Great video! Seems like such an amazing, easy process. Got my equipment and ready to go. Have you any updates on doing the interior of the Tesla? Would love to see that video whenever it's made for sure! Thanks!
Thank you so much we just orders our Tesla model y performance white/white with the steps from your video and I am looking forward on the interior cleaning video for when we get ours😊
Is the Optiseal & ONR compatible with Gyeon Mohs ceramic coating? If I had the ceramic coating on, after washing the car, can I use Optiseal on it as well?
What do you do when you can't remove a bird poop stain with the general touch up technique you discussed in this vid? Most everything came off, but there is still a layer of very stubborn residue. (Washed and waxed the car with your technique two days prior).
So I've landed on a similar method to yours but started using p&s absolute and p&s beadmaker and for whatever reason feel like it dries easier then onr and give a better shine and slickness. I've never tried the sponge though, still using the microfiber mitts.
TSLA keeps going with a trunk widely opened and hope they will fix this issue. A almost smashed my trunk when going into the garage with a trunk opened
I do care about my car, I wash it by hand with distilled water, with a modification of the 2 bucket system. Send microfiber sponge and towels I use the same brand but the green, not the blue liquid. I love the results. I'll try your system and see how it works
same it's fine, just long as there are no brushes an this is a car that now has 620p miles on it from new an being using the car wash, I have a small rock chip from the highway. but no the paint doesn't get washed off or anything like that
I have just picked up my MYP, with white inside, so keen to hear your tips for that. I did have an 18mth old loaner car with the white and considering it’s not well looked after by those who use it, it didn’t look too bad.
Jeremiah, you make great videos. What do you do if you have...lets say a bird pooped on your white tesla and you just want to wash that spot and not the whole car? What product and how?
What about winter time when the car is covered in salt. Can I still use the wash less method described in this video? I don’t have access to hot water in my garage to rinse first. Also what is your opinion on touchless car washes?
I use ONR on the entirety of the outside of the vehicle, PPF too. On the inside I use it to clean the plastics near the door jams, pack of seats where peoples feet hit, and floor mats (all weather). For seats/vinyl/fake leather I use colourlock.
Question nobody seems to address on cleaning the Tesla - I live in Northern Illinois and during the winter time we pick up allot of salt from the roads. Over time any new car is going to get dinged here and there on the body, so all the safe care or protection that we do is not going to prevent any damage from happening to the paint job on the car body. (unless you are driving in a vacuum with nobody around all the time.) My question is if we don't go to a car wash - how do you clean the underbody from the car that picks up allot of Salt in the winter???? Over time the salt will start to eat into the materials of the car if not cleaned - also the wheel wells around the tires which that we can probably get with a hose, but the underbody we can't get to. Most car washes have a section in the car wash to spay the underbody. Also if it is Winter time (cold out) and trying to hand wash the car in a home garage, do you do anything different? Usually washing a car in colder weather (40 degrees or below) is harder to do, at least I think so. Last question: how bad does a automated car wash scratch up a car. Are there any videos showing what they do to a car paint job. I have run my 2001 Monte Carlo (21 years old) through car washes and I don't see any damage using them. But that is my opinion. I do thank you for the listing of products you use (Awesome). Thank you and take care.
Well!!!! I have had my questions up for 3 months now. So nobody lives in a Northern State with a Tesla???? What do you people do in the winter time to get dirt, salt, etc off of your Tesla vehicle??? Anybody???? I am not going to wash a vehicle in my garage, it is just about as cold as it is outside and water would probably freeze or a terrible mess on the garage floor. No way I am going to hand wash any vehicle in the Winter Time in cold weather. I will take the vehicle to a car wash if there is no other options.
I use ONR, but not necessarily exactly as you do. I do have a question re: the recommendation for Opti Seal and Optimum Wax. I had the front of my car wrapped and then the entire car ceramic coated. Do you still recommend Opti Seal on top of ceramic coating? Thanks and great video.
Thanks for the video. It motivated me to try no rinse method. There is a green no rinse wash & wax available. How is that product compared to blue no rinse wash ?
Thanks for this info. We don't have water at our garage, so this helps us a lot. I do have some questions. You must live in CA or FL. I live in the CO mountains, and have to drive dirt roads in our 2018 model 3. Also, in the winter DOT puts mag chloride on the highways and the county puts it on the dirt roads to help keep the dust down. Our car gets really dirty, especially the bottom and back from mud and dust. Also, in the summer lots of dead bugs in the front. What do you do about these? Mag chloride is really difficult because it's like driving over wet concrete, it sticks, builds up, then dries like concrete on your car. Any suggestions (we are not moving). Thanks

Thank you so much for this video and the great information. Do you ever use the optimum car wash soap 🧼 at all or just follow this method only?

It has been part of my family for ages and has worked very well with me and my family. I certainly love the one-bucket method. Definitely would want to try the ONR when I clean my car next time.
So you don’t prerinse the car with a hose at all? We get so much salt in the Winters in New England, it can get practically caked on which is why I like to prerinse the heavy stuff off before starting.
I just tried this method and the nice thing is that it's dry enough to do inside your garage, but yeah, if my car gets really muddy or salty I think it makes sense to pressure wash or hose it off first.
Do I not ever use a chamois on my model 3?
Is this too harsh?
I followed your directions, with recommended products on my white/white M3 and it looks great. Did you get your white/white tesla? I did have an issue with cleaning the bug etc off the front of my car. In addition to rinsing the sponge each time do you do anything else after you’re finished?
did you ever do a how to clean the interior video?
What about the windows?
Great video, I used all your links. I would like to see you make a video for how to clean the interior w/products you used, how to get the tires to be back to black shine w/products you use, and on how you machine wash your microfiber towels and any other tools.
I just discovered this video and I've never been more excited to wash my car LOL
Hey Jeremiah. Great video! Seems like such an amazing, easy process. Got my equipment and ready to go. Have you any updates on doing the interior of the Tesla? Would love to see that video whenever it's made for sure! Thanks!
Bought all the optimum products. Thank you :))
Will definitely give P&S a look. Few of my friends have recommended it in the past.
ok,what a great water saving way to clean a car, love it and will try!
how often do you wash all the towels?
Thanks! So you don't rinse with the garden hose first?
Do you apply optiseal to glass?
I have couple questions
What about the under side or area above the wheel?
Also I have ppf: is touchless car wash ok?
TSLA keeps going with a trunk widely opened and hope they will fix this issue. A almost smashed my trunk when going into the garage with a trunk opened
I don't have time for this.. lol what kind of commercial car wash would you recommend? Touchless? Self Serve/Spray type??
I do care about my car, I wash it by hand with distilled water, with a modification of the 2 bucket system. Send microfiber sponge and towels I use the same brand but the green, not the blue liquid. I love the results. I'll try your system and see how it works
how do you wash the sponge to make it clean again ?
I use automatic touch free car washes or self serve spray wash bays.
same it's fine, just long as there are no brushes an this is a car that now has 620p miles on it from new an being using the car wash, I have a small rock chip from the highway. but no the paint doesn't get washed off or anything like that
I have just picked up my MYP, with white inside, so keen to hear your tips for that. I did have an 18mth old loaner car with the white and considering it’s not well looked after by those who use it, it didn’t look too bad.
Can someone you give clarification? In which case do I use the the blue rag instead of the sponge to when using ONR?
Jeremiah, you make great videos. What do you do if you have...lets say a bird pooped on your white tesla and you just want to wash that spot and not the whole car? What product and how?
If the car is clearbra wrapped and ceramic coated, what do you recommend
I have watched a lot of you tube 26c per view stuff. This crap is the King of "PLEASE WATCH ME"
In vid you mention GSM 200 and 550, but when do you recommend the 300 or 350 GSM microfiber? Thanks!
What about winter time when the car is covered in salt. Can I still use the wash less method described in this video? I don’t have access to hot water in my garage to rinse first. Also what is your opinion on touchless car washes?
How does this work with ceramic coatings?
Ceramic pain protection and good tinting then u can wash how ever u want
Would you recommend the ONR wash and wax combined solution?
Question: can i use the ONR solution on the interior - seats, panels, etc. And exterior PPF? Thank you. I love this system I
I use ONR on the entirety of the outside of the vehicle, PPF too. On the inside I use it to clean the plastics near the door jams, pack of seats where peoples feet hit, and floor mats (all weather). For seats/vinyl/fake leather I use colourlock.
Opti-Seal unavailable, second choice?
Question nobody seems to address on cleaning the Tesla - I live in Northern Illinois and during the winter time we pick up allot of salt from the roads.
Over time any new car is going to get dinged here and there on the body, so all the safe care or protection that we do is not going to prevent any damage from happening to the paint job on the car body. (unless you are driving in a vacuum with nobody around all the time.)
My question is if we don't go to a car wash - how do you clean the underbody from the car that picks up allot of Salt in the winter????
What are you using on the seat and door?
When you say to spray the wax on the glass panels, do you mean the windshield and side windows too? Or are you just referring to the roof?
Everywhere
great advice and less water use thanks
do you know where to get the products in europe/holland
I use ONR, but not necessarily exactly as you do. I do have a question re: the recommendation for Opti Seal and Optimum Wax. I had the front of my car wrapped and then the entire car ceramic coated. Do you still recommend Opti Seal on top of ceramic coating? Thanks and great video.
Nice old man slippers. I got those as well. Must have tbh
Why not rinse the car first to get the major dirt off?
In terms of PPF is there anything different I need to do?
Nope. I have PPF on the car in the video. It actually makes washing even easier.
@@JremiahJones did u fully wrap your tesla or just the front?
How is the inspection done on a Tesla?
Thanks for the video. It motivated me to try no rinse method. There is a green no rinse wash & wax available. How is that product compared to blue no rinse wash ?
Any alternatives to Optimum's Opti-Seal since it's regularly OOS? Thanks!
P&S Bead Maker is my preferred alternative for the drying aid protectant
Doesn’t cover the wheel arches, microfibre cloths ain’t sorting them surely 😆 …or is it just muddier in the UK ?!
why is it any different from washing any other car slash versus slash washing a tesla. Is the paint on Tesla that flimsy and bad ?
Thanks
Thank you for your knowledge 🇬🇧
Can the ONR and Opi-seal be used on the windshield and windows
