  • These 11 acres are some of the most important acres left to secure at Antietam. They were at the center of the surging attacks and counterattacks that defined the deadliest day in American history. We must quickly raise the funds needed to fill in this 11-acre hole in the battle map and ensure the Antietam Battlefield is intact and preserved. bit.ly/3TrXrsd
The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

I had the tangible thrill of walking the battlefield (in 1996...!) and now I get to be part of the effort to save more of that ground. That's another tangible thrill for me...

I wish I lived closer to these battlefields. I would have loved to walk as many as possible. Nice job once again!

Was just here about three weeks ago and did a self guided driving tour. Enjoyed it quite a bit. I am sure i missed some things, but learned that the 11th CT (my home state) started the advance/assault on the Burnside Bridge. Very cool to get the perspective of what they faced.
If anyone is interested in a long day of battlefield touring, you could hit Harpers Ferry, South Mountain and this battlefield in the same day. And then 1.5 hours away is the Manasas battlefield(s).

❤, this would be great to get more land covered by the Kershaw SC brigade. I say this since most of the other advance is covered by the Visitor Center!!

Thank you Garry, Dennis, and Andy for explaining this latest need. I donated to this request last week, and now understand more fully as to how important it is. Keep up the great work.

My ancestor would of fought almost exactly on this spot as a company commander in the 72nd Pennsylvania. Thank you guys for preserving these plots of land. I was there last year for the first time and had a nice walk through West Woods and Philadelphia Brigade Park (I cant find any records, but my ancestor may have helped buy that land as he was president of the veterans organization that did.)

Every piece of our battlefields should be preserved. I drove five weeks straight visiting American battlefields from Tennessee to Niagara, Saratoga to Virginia😮😊. Love our history

7:08 really encapsulates why groups such as the ABT are so important. Today it's difficult to imagine the West Woods looked this about 60-70 years ago.

I kicked in a donation. I hope it helps. I want to visit Antietam again someday soon. The battlefield was closed due to a government shutdown when I came through the area 11 years ago. Hoping to retire soon and head back that way for another visit.

These lands have stayed in private lands and have remained very-well preserved for 160 years. Andit hasnt cost the American tax payer a dime.

When ABT buys this land, it won't cost the taxpayers a dime.

How can I help Dennis, I’m an Illinoisan combat vet who moved to your area recently. I have yet to visit Antietam. As an Illinoisan, I’m in hog heaven, o call this sort of the country. The “old country” I’ve already found 4 sets of grandparents in Winchester Virginia buried and one has real tight closeness to General Daniel Morgan. He also created a descendant of one of my grandfathers that was part of Ashbys 7th Calvary , army of the Shenandoah valley .i share the host intensity lol and passion

An idea just popped in to my head. When the trust acquires land - after you make trails and interpretive markers - why not also include a upscale campground - as a long term funding source for the trust???

camping is not what national military parks are about. They are to returned to their OG look so we can proper understand the battle
