This was my story too. Dreams and dead end jobs. If you stay complacent you will wither and die. You have to get off your ass and do something incremental towards your goals. Move to the city that is the hub for want you want. Find people who do what you want to do. Be “adjacent” to what you want and little by little it will happen. IMO, removing drugs and alcohol make this process easier but you do you. You can find breaks and access to what you want to do. You just have to be self aware, and willing to move outside your usual comfort zone. This was a great talk from QT.
Sounds nice, but once you pull off the vail so to speak, you find out these people are related, and its a big group of money and stories for more money. It's all bought and paid for, and even if you did get in, they would just take from you anyways. I usually don’t comment but to offer some encouragement, what he is saying is right. You have to surround yourself with people that have the same dreams and ambitions. The great thing is though this is not the 90s anymore, with filmmaking stretching to multiple locations it is so easy to meet people online and through social media. The downside, having a social media account and presence is almost required if you expect to make those connections. Things might be a little bit over saturated, but now everything is as accessible as it’s ever been go chase those dreams!
At 39, this was not the video to watch. The more Quentin talked, the more depressing my reality became. I've had the same job for 20 years. Had dreams of being a filmmaker (same avatar since I made my RUclips account in 2006) but had no idea how to make it happen. Where I was and where I wanted to be, it might as well have been the distance from the earth to the moon--or, that's how it felt. Wasted my 20s, wasted my 30s. You start thinking about a better life for yourself made possible by having a regular job, a pension. Had an identity crisis after a break up 7 years ago, and slowly moved away from wanting being a filmmaker. I thought: Well, maybe I'll just be a novelist, at least I'm still telling stories. But I'd be lying if I said I don't think about that old dream now and again. Life will pass you by if you sit too long waiting to figure things out. It really sucks. Update: I had no idea my comment was getting any replies. I appreciate you guys chiming in. Your advice is something to think about.
That is dam near my story to a t!! Apart from parents dying and getting diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 40! Smh! Honestly it flies by and you wake up one day like where the hell am I! Smh
When you hear of success its mostly just rare survivorship stories. The best video I've seen on this subject on here was Steve Albini(famous studio engineer who record the last Nirvana album). I put his quote below but he's pointing out how flawed the idea of everyone thinking they will make money from a hobby and more important if you are trying to use the hobby to make money you will typically either not make money from it causing dissatisfaction or you will change what you are doing in order to make money still causing dissatisfaction. In otherwords its like someone who went to photography school dreaming of being the next Ansel Adams and they end eventually landing a gig doing boring corporate photography(and thats if they are lucky as those jobs are hard to get). Realstically that same person might have been better off getting a Comp Sci degree, make way more stable money to pay off debt and then can use funds of job to be the next Ansel Adams while working remotely around the world. TLDR: You can still be a filmmaker or whatever as long as you approach if from a hobby perspective(doing it because you love it) while you make money doing a seperate job. "in a way a hubristic presumption to think that you can be purely a musician and that the rest of the world will pay you for the privilege of hearing your music. I think that that's a little bit naive in some cases and you know grossly overstating your importance... if you have to use your art as a way of generating your income then you're inexorably linking your lifestyle and your personal comfort with the decisions that you make for your art but I see music as something like say skiing or painting you know something that you can enjoy doing for its own sake... very few people should expect to do it professionally very few people should expect to do it as a career" - Steve Albini

You can still make movies, man. You could save a little bit of money for a small budget, get a small crew together, shoot a short film, and try to get it into festivals. It's not big Hollywood level success but the opportunity to make a film is still there if that's what you really want to do. Making movies isn't like being a pop star singer where you have to become successful by 20 or something. The question, really, is whether you actually want to make movies or if you were just more in love with the idea or the fantasy of being a big, hot-shot, Hollywood, filmmaker.

I can understand. Its hard to make any decisions in life when the pressure of making something of yourself is also compounded by a deep self denial and hopelessness. The only thing that got me out of it was learning to truly accept myself exactly as i was, bad habits and all. I realized that as much as i wished things were different, there was no way to get anywhere except from right here and right now, and i started learning to appreciate myself every step of the way, no matter what. Ive since developed a deep sense of compassion, which is now one of my greatest strengths. Dont give up
I had this realization at 25 due to a sustained injury. I'm 27, going to school to be an audio engineer-working hard everyday to get my life as far away from what my 20s was.... This was a great conversation!

He's telling my story. Worked minimum wage jobs, including video stores, till my late 20s. My head was full of pipe dreams and I had no money, but it was fun. Until it wasn't. As I grew older, the employees got younger. Depression set in. Finally, I get a full-time job at age 27. First time in my adult life I have health insurance. I meet my spouse at this job. 17 years later, we have an amazing daughter and live in a nice house. I fulfilled some of my ambitions, with minimal success. No matter. I have what I need. A place (post knee replacements) I've used to transport me home from hospital post surgery. Was manned by two EMT's. (Premier Ambulance) They were telling me it's a side gig. To make selves more viable to our Fire Department. i.e. a Resume' addition. After transporting me? I called their employee. Spoke to their attitude, professionalism, and how I've used the service before (another knee replacement post collegiate basketball). Said these two have been sent 2-3 times. Made sure I left spectacular referrals for their individual files. Then made sure the referral got to the day people as well. (initially called at night, i.e. got the late shift or answering svc)

I listened to those! They were called Power Talk. Cassettes that had Tony giving advice on side A and an interesting interview on the other side. Those tapes really helped me.
that's pretty basic advice bro lol
I was bitter at 20 and thank God I was. Got me rolling instead of being bitter at 30 or 40. At that point, it's too late or extremely hard road up
You just have to make that decision, that you want to be better than what you are. thats all it takes.
WE become our habits.
You mean we BECOME our habits
OUR
HABITS
So relatable, I’m 28 rn working security and it sucks.. definitely starting to get those “what have I done with my life” feelings
loves the sound of his own voice that's for sure
i know many people who pursued their passion, not everyone gets to become tino, many end up old and realize that passion doesn't buy the home, it doesn't put food on the table or gas in your car... lol
there's always a trade off in the end, people aren't aware of the benefits of security
Sarag and Doug dressed as Caleb
Heard this on a walk. More horrific than any horror movie I’ve seen
😂
I am 25 in a month, finnishig University in 5 months, but still Dont know What I want to do, its like I lost dreams and the “fire” in me. I hope it will Come back When I finish school and I will be looking for my first job, but I lack confidence, because I think I am Not Good in Nothing specific, and Thats Where my “fire” and confidence is lost. I Cant wait to finish school, but on the other hand, the “grown” man life kinda scares me. 9-5 job, be always tired, annoyed, Not much free time for hobbies and friends. Dont know if I prefer a job with better money or a job Which I would enjoy more. Life is hard, and I am only 25 and I know alot of people that Have Worst life situation than me, so I am Very grateful and humble, but it scares me a lot.
An amazing segment. Would love to find more like this if anyone could point to some similar
Im crying. I could have been this dude
they say its never late, i trully believe that with my soul, go for it!!!!
i knew this from like age 10 i stopped focusing on school , left home, dropped out of college, i literally dropped myself into the flames and got damn have i been through some crazy shit
the hero's journey
@ can’t take much more man , no family no friends maybe I’m the problem so I’ve been working on that … 2025 be my year
@@TeznaGFX you are the solution not the problem. all the obstacles put in front of you are meant to challenge not destroy you. stop asking too much of yourself by making 2025 "your year" and get down to individual improvements one step at a time. You can't please everybody, just be thankful each step along the way and that's enough, you are enough. take care
I love spirit day

Like spirit week at school, each day has a theme and one day might be dressing up as twins with someone else
caleb😢
been dreaming since a kid. ive been "asleep" as he put it for years, finally getting out of it and making this feature.
Thanks for the upload
Very good one Mr Quentin!
Bro getting notifications left right and center 😂
Bless that guy
For a second I thought he was talking about Steve-O from Jackass 😂😂
Same😂
LOL me too. I thought QT was gonna speak to going
off Niagara Falls on a skateboard.
He was actually. Quentin made a couple of special appearances on Jack Ass
Wait wtf so is it not Steve-O? When he mentioned how he was the funniest guy he ever knew, I thought that confirmed it
@ No because the guy he was talking about was older than him and his roommates
I like how it literally looks like my phone recorded this with the robinhood updates. F yea I’ll support/subscribe LG!
Thanks for upload bro! ❤
I remember being gripped by this during the podcast
I turned 29 this December 2024. Between 21-29 age I started multiple businesses - all failed, went on multiple dates - all failed, change shitty jobs. I am bald, alone, broke & without a career.
At 29 I have lost all hope. Want my life to end ASAP. God wants some of us to be losers.
You could live another forty years. Plenty of time to become great at something.
Just study and get job from easiest skill to hardest
God wants you to fail until you’re enough. This process may not even fit in a single lifespan. Delaying it will only prolong the misery. It’s like a hamster wheel until it’s not. God doesn’t seem so good now
@@turolretar what is your point? Should I stop trying and quit my life?
29? It’s still too young don’t get caught in the stupid idea that after your 30s your life is over , I’m sick of watching people saying how to live your life or which age you have to be for success keep pushing be a man
As a soon to be 28 year old whos accomplished basically nothing, this was a fucking wake up call.
how was it a wake up call for you personally?
I am 26, almost 27 working these jobs.
If you are a US CITIZEN you have access to a plethora of programs to give you good quality of life with upward career mobility ......free fafsa college money.....ebt food stamps.....all the opportunities in the world .......go to your local calworks office and you will find many programs....more then you can count....only fro US Citizens

It's twin day for Spirit week
We're going to have to hurt or pay for the waste of money we've spent; either now or later, before we can recover fully. That's what happens when you get behind on your bills.
PTSD, get acquainted
I’m in a kinda similar position. I’m in a job adjacent to being a firefighter. Since we work with them but more on the permitting side but I’m comfortable and content at the moment. I feel like I’m fine and the fire is extinguished to purse being a firefighter. Don’t know what to tell my self to fix my background up to be a great candidate at least.
A place (post knee replacements) I've used to transport
me home from hospital post surgery. Was manned by two EMT's. (Premier Ambulance) They were telling me
it's a side gig. To make selves more viable to our Fire
Department. i.e. a Resume' addition. After transporting me? I called their employee. Spoke to their attitude, professionalism, and how I've used the
service before (another knee replacement post
collegiate basketball). Said these two have been sent
2-3 times. Made sure I left spectacular referrals for
their individual files. Then made sure the referral got
to the day people as well. (initially called at night, i.e.
got the late shift or answering svc)
It’s twin day for spirit week
Thank you for making this concrete video!
Really inspiring.
Can anybody tell me what a "quinton test fest" or whatever he talking about? I'm curious
He said ‘Quentin detest fest’, as in he hated himself
@@bobsmith7178 oh, got it. Thank you
No problem! I’ll keep them coming !
It's twin day for spirit fest!
its twin day
Sarah AND Doug dressed up as Caleb for spirit day?
Dang, Sarah and Doug dressed as Caleb ?
Im not even trying to be funny here but I'm 27 now and its 5:25am where I am right now Ive been awake all night, after I watch this video I just layed in my bed staring into space for like 10mins Just thinking about my life and the fucking years I wasted working at the shame bar for over 6 years now , I was not ready for this video at all.
Where was the advice?
The end of the video. Lessons are 1. get out of dead end work 2. take risks. 3. take inventory of ewhat can be done to change your life 4. be around the type of people you aspire to be
Great way to start 2025
No one’s interested in what the other guy has to say lol
Well, there’s not just opportunities for everyone…no matter how many dreams you have or relentlessly pursue. Quentin is an outlier in this situation. Nothing wrong with honest work at any age. It should be a question why they don’t pay more.
It's still a good lesson about complacency. Sure not everyone ends up being the top of their field, but a lot of people can aim a bit higher and get out of the comfort zone
Not everyone is going to get the same opportunities as Tarantino but you can still do something
Great now ask him what he was doing in israel
worst advice ever
“When I was 25 I saw a depressed guy at 30 so I started working harder so I wouldn’t become like that.” Crazy how bad of a story teller he is considering who he is. Remember, hook the audience first with the end of the story in as few words as possible and then let them ask for the details they want to hear.
Because he doesnt care about that lol hes telling his story to someone already interested
it hooked me. You don't always have to follow a prescribed theory for storytelling ya know
@@imageword5576 bad storytelling is bad storytelling.
Difference is he’s Quentin Tarantino so we don’t need to be hooked.
@@KM-hk8tc story should always hook first regardless of who you are. Good person telling a bad story doesn’t make a good story.
this is 7 minutes of my life I wont get back
this is a very boring story
Always one 🙄
Such a good story
