    i got my BA in psych, but i graduated almost 10 years ago and eventually went into a career that didn't utilize the survey design skills i learned. needless to say, i'm rusty now. but this video is making me go "oh yes i remember that!!" so thank you for this crash course :)

    I just wanted to say that I’ve been going through a slightly rocky time recently at work and in my career as a UXR for various reasons. It’s felt pretty lonely but I watch at least one of your videos a day at the moment and it makes me feel like I’m not alone in the UXR world. Love all of your videos, they came to me just at the right time. Thanks so much ☺️

    OMG. My mind is blown. I was doing a UX project and I did a survey thinking that it would be easy. It was easy but I kept thinking "what I'm going to d with the anwers?". It was just a normal survey that anyone could do. Then I did research and your video helped me a lot. Now I know I need to do a JTBD Survey and I know I need to do a bit more research about variables in order to do a surey that will be actually useful to inform my design decisions.

    This is great! I also like to tell my fellow researchers to make sure they are careful when doing multiple inferential comparisons on the same data set. Happens so often, but it increases your chances of making a mistake. Best is to go in with some hypotheses and test those :)

    I know that math can be very scary to lots of people. Though, as I understand it, statistics is all about relationships. Math is what we use to describe those relationships.
    People can develop mental models based on visuals of what is happening for the simpler relationships.
    I wish that there was a better experience for learning math as it has been. At least a neutral experience.

    Hi! I liked the video, but just one thing: with interval, it's true there is no real zero, but there absolutely is a meaningful difference between them.

    • @AonaTalks
      @AonaTalks  2 года назад +4

      Hi Glenn! Thank you - I have always had a hard time differentiating when an interval starts becoming a ratio variable and vice versa. I have then come to my own understanding - besides the true 0 definition, I evaluate whether there's a "mathematical meaning" in an interval variable's scale of measurement. E.g. does ‘multiplied by 2’ have the exact meaning of ‘twice as much as’? If so, I tend to count it as a ratio, if not, an interval. Which is what I was trying to say in the video - do you think this is a good way of categorization? But you are right! It definitely has meaningful difference between them. Happy to hear more of your thoughts!!

    • @onpointux
      @onpointux 2 года назад

      @@AonaTalks Hi! Thanks for the thoughtful reply. In my estimation, yes, that is a good and practical way of differentiating interval and ratio variables. It's also more concrete than the "absolute zero".
      However, my remark about the meaningful difference targets more the difference between interval and ordinal -> If the difference isn't consistent (ie. equal intervals) and meaningful (correspond to equal differences in the underlying value), then it's an ordinal variable.
      /geekmode: Where the mind*ck gets dialed to 11 is how those typical rating scales like satisfaction and Likert are formally ordinal (as you correctly put) but are practically treated as interval so you can calculate their means.
      /personally: I'm okay with means for those scales but rarely do it myself. A simple bar graph where you see the number of times each option on the scale was chosen (or emphasising some with a top2box score) carries much more punch than "3.74 avg satisfaction".

    Hi Aona, thank you for the video! Quick Question: If someone is doing a survey that has both quantitative and qualitative questions, how would they go about analyzing their data? Would they analyze the data separately? If you have any resources you could share that might answer this, please let me know. Thanks!!

    • @AonaTalks
      @AonaTalks  2 года назад +1

      “Qualitative questions” do you mean open-ended questions? If so yes - need to analyze them separately.
