I really disagree with Mark on the new format. With the top 8 places giving that extra bit of rest it felt like EVERY game was so important, with only 8 games, it essentially means that almost every game in the first 6 rounds is a 6 pointer. and with each win giving a team 2.3m I don't think any team is gonna be "taking it easy." I don't there is any extra price money based where you finish but maybe that is something that should be looked in to. But on the whole this system has been very good and I think Mark not having a horse in the race has made it "not exciting" for him.
About the revenue of the extra games, during the group stage you get a performance bonus of some £2mil for a win and £800k for a draw (or thereabouts). This means that after 7 games Liverpool have 14 million and Real has 8 million. Idk what the revenue will be from those games but i can't imagine it vastly outweighs the risk of not getting through to the L16. Not to mention 2 more top level games fitting in with 3 domestic competitions and players playing internationally more now?

The new format of the 8 first games helped smaller teams to win more games and get extra price money. Which helps those smaller teams. A win is a major injection for the likes or Feyenoord or Brugge etc.
I think similar to what you both were talking about was the history of the clubs like Liverpool and United. If City keep it up or if in the next generation they talk about City’s team with Pep within their families, that will bring them up to a point of pride that Liverpool and United fans have. I think there needs to be perspective to have full conversations & stories about them.

I know that type pf player will help a team like united get back into the top 8, but he won't be their final solution. And for the money they would have to spend on him they would be better spending on 3 players

Every other team is relegation battlers, and West Ham who are underachieving almost as badly as City themselves. They drew or lost to any decent side. City doesn't press as high as they did in the past and that for obvious reasons, look at the age in midfield, they don't have the legs anymore, so they drop about 15 meters in press, which opens up a lot of room to play through the press and the backline is deep as well, so there is also room to play in
PSG are not a bad side..the problem with Man City is that were overrun by a team that believed in themselves on that day and wanted it more. All the success that City have had has strained them and the years at the top have taken their toll to a point where they just can't compete or are able to compete or even want to compete against the best teams ....this is a serious mental block and not one that is easily resolved. even if you get better players - it's like depression - it comes without warning and it only goes at a time of it's choosing .... not because of some major change or circumstance but because something innocuous just happens .

City doesn't press as high as they did in the past and that for obvious reasons, look at the age in midfield, they don't have the legs anymore, so they drop about 15 meters in press, which opens up a lot of room to play through the press and the backline is deep as well, so there is also room to play in

PSG are not a bad side..the problem with Man City is that were overrun by a team that believed in themselves on that day and wanted it more. All the success that City have had has strained them and the years at the top have taken their toll to a point where they just can't compete or are able to compete or even want to compete against the best teams ....this is a serious mental block and not one that is easily resolved. even if you get better players - it's like depression - it comes without warning and it only goes at a time of it's choosing .... not because of some major change or circumstance but because something innocuous just happens .
