Biden is clearly no longer fit to serve, but his administration and presidency is highly rated by historians for his effective response to covid, and his fiscal policy (which, despite MAGA protestations, is the best in the world post-covid as far as inflation and recovery) has been tremendous. The Biden administration is also significantly less partisan than that of any president since Clinton. As for Kamala, she is perhaps not as diplomatic as say, Obama or Clinton, but to call her a laughing stock is absurd. She has legitimate qualifications to be the president and has a decades-long reputation as being a socially-liberal moderate who is not afraid to crack down on crime. Despite MAGA outrage at the idea of Trump not winning, out of all three candidates, he is clearly least capable of running the country. For example, what specifically led to President Reagan making the age joke in the follow-up debate with Mondale in 1984--his flubs in the first debate aren't referenced at all. Also, the 1992 exchange between George Bush, Bill Clinton, and the town hall guest is missing 1) the full question from the town hall guest; and 2) Bush's flubbed response and body motions--like looking at his watch and how he explains he doesn't understand the question. Full clips for each of these mistakes are available elsewhere on YT, and I encourage folks to find them and view them.

Huh, the vice presidential debate will always be remembered for Dan Quayle's comparing himself to JFK and getting it handed back to him. Quayle may have lost this exchange, but he scored enough points for Bush spending most of the debate criticizing Dukakis instead of challenging Benson head-on. Benson never tried to defend Dukakis - instead he tried to challenge Quayle. It's like one opponent focusing on knocking out the queen, he forgets to defend the king and gets checkmated.
I'm not fan of Reagan but that line in that debate it's one of the highlights of debate history worldwide some questions are illogical traps and the only way to get out of them it's with witty or humor.

Gerald Ford was projected to lose badly-even by some to lose as bad as George McGovern had lost four years prior. But, he ended up losing by 40,000 votes across two states. Wisconsin and Ohio. With Ohio being the closest. Almost like 1948 and future 2016. The one that had won all the pre-election polls ended up losing.

No, it's because he's unfortunately not very present on stage. He hasn't gotten any big moments, and hasn't been agressive towards other candidates. Some of this is the fault of the hosts, who give yang fewer questions than some of the other candidates, but yang still doesn't have enough support to make him a forefront candidate. In this last debate, more of his topics came up, so he did a lot better.
Usually, my mind is already made up before the campaigns begin, but I normally judge a candidate by how he or she does in debates. Still, some candidates win in spite of having poor debate performances. George W. Bush was more or less trounced by John Kerry in all three debates, and still won.
I always found it hilarious that Reagan was making fun of a 56 year olds "youth and inexperience" when Mondale had more political experience despite being 17 years younger.
I think debates are silly. It would be much more meaningful to me to observe political candidates engaging in a thoughtful and intellectual discussion of their positions in well behaved pairs or small groups. Where does their common ground lie? How should policy decisions be adopted in a way that strikes a balance for everyone? So maybe I'll run for President and have non-argumentative thought provoking discussions with my fellow candidates instead of showing off...

Trump's schoolyard bully tactics worked on his Republican rivals because they were unprepared and responded with fumbling, and later with the same childish jabs ("small hands"). The same tactic backfired with Clinton because she appeared unflustered. She had been preparing for it, and even goaded him into being childish (calling him "Donald", for example).
