Hi Dom, under Tim's house rules a unit has to be able to see its target at the point it is ordered to charge. So perhaps the devastating early charge of the Swedish cuirassiers shouldn't have been allowed? Great game, though!

ah i think i missed that thanks. Certainly would have impacted the result, or at least made it a bit harder for the Swedes

39:26, come on Dom; the smoke from the engagement and the lack of tactical training would in no real circumstances accept overhead fire with a long gun battery. Not only would the round velocity preclude it but training and doctrine would lead to a "That's what the howitzers are fore", function. There was a reason why british batteries included two howitzers and that was for instances similar to this... Simon

I think your maths may be off. 2/3 of 12 is 8 not 9

You never said what the point value of the Swedish side was and I question if the built up areas don't count as further value since they receive tremendous defensive points for their cover. Why is a single infantry battalion supposed to hold the flank against a heavy cavalry division? Why is the French cavalry a medium cavalry while the Swedes are super heavy, did you not have any French Cuirassier? Really, once again, your set up puts the French at a severe disadvantage. In order to take this many BUA's the French would require at least a 3 to 1 advantage and realistically a 5 to 1 advantage. This was a virtually impossible scenario for the French.

I think you overthink the game. The scenarios are all equal forces and actually if I played it again I think that the attacker would have a chance. It’s not easy certainly but this event is not competitive but supposed to be fun. That single Polish battalion could have held the flank all day against the cavalry if it had formed square. Cavalry cannot charge a square. It was unlucky and the Swedes were lucky to get 3 moves to reach them. The French cavalry were not medium, they are also heavies and given there were 2 regiments plus the lancers they should have held their own against the Swedes. The French cavalry brigade was directly from the 1812 scenario rules and entirely accurate. I could have had a cuirassier regt or two for sure, but that would have meant the infantry forces would have been reduced to accommodate the points. The Swedes cuirassiers aren’t super heavy, just heavies and really got on a roll which can happen. Again it was a fun game and yes the French struggled but next time I feel pretty confident that they would take the front 2 BUAs.
