Hi. So pleased you enjoy the talks! re your question I tend to think of hands as either balanced, 2 suited or single suited. (Let's forget about the dreaded 4441 shape). In my mind a single suited hand must have at least 6 cards. I can see why you might think "hang on, there is only one long suit here" but it's not long enough. Balanced comes first. Hope that helps! you can't bid 2nt unless you think you have about 22/23 points between the two hands. For instance if the bidding goes 1h 1s 2c 2nt you are promising 10-12 points. If you don't' have that point count you need to take it to a safe landing place in a suit contract. Sometimes you might bid your six card minor.

Those were 6 card majors. What about minor suits when you want to play in NT if possible?
