The thing with Amoung Us is that if you play with the same group of friends things get predictable and old. Most people don't have a huge pool of friends to choose from unlike streamers.
In my opinion what killed among us are a few things, 1. The game got old fast and the only update Among Us was getting back when it's was at it's peak was the Airship map and that's it, no new roles or anything just one map. I think the roles and cosmicubes update should've been the first thing intersloth should've done when among us was at it's peak, not one new map and the awful quick chat feature that is the opposite of quick. 2. Among us memes quickly became unfunny and the only joke were "WhEn ThE iMpOsToR iS sUs!!!11" and "A M O G U S" which lead to people starting to hate among us. And 3. The game itself only got popular because of quarantine and people were bored, let's be real among us would be nothing without quarantine and big streamers and youtubers playing the game almost everyday late 2020.
Maybe but tbh I think streamers would’ve picked up the game regardless of the pandemic or not, the pandemic just escalated things. The basic gameplay loop of Among Us makes it extremely streamer-friendly and it was already quickly gaining traction 2018-2019 way before covid became a thing.
To semi quote this guy I saw in a discord server, "Among Us has entered what I call ""meme orbit"" it's like Rick rolling its so popular even if you hate it it won't go away, it'll keep orbiting and stay around to some capacity it's always going to be somewhere on the internet"
The lifespan of a lot of games lately has been really frustrating in my opinion. They'll get immensely popular, but then are deemed "cringe" and you get made fun of if you even mention them. Games like Minecraft (to a certain extent), Roblox, FNAF, Fortnite, Among Us, and others were/are really popular and actually solid games imo, but now have pretty bad reputations and get made fun of a lot. It's partly due to the fanbases being large percents of young kids (and the cringe parts of every fandom exist), but honestly the games themselves are fine in my opinion and it's frustrating that they went from being "cool" to play to being solely a joke. Ps. I haven't really kept up with Among us itself since late 2020, so watching the video I realize there are other reasons it's not as popular anymore but I'm mainly talking about the cringe culture and memes about it ruining it for me personally. Also none of these games are dead at all, they just have a bad rep in my opinion P.P.S. A lot of people are mentioning that minecraft doesn't have a bad rep like these other games, but it did at one point in time is what I'm trying to say. Even though it's generally a lot better now, I've still had people make fun of me for playing it recently so I'm not trying to offend anyone, I'm just speaking from personal experience.
I wasnt big with it since 2018, around when it first dame out, when it became popular for no reason i thought that maybe an update or something came out, but nope, and now it is dead again.
What I find funniest is that those same people who get on others for playing ‘cringe’ or ‘irrelevant’ games are nearly always the ones _still_ recycling the same 5 meme formats we’ve had since 2019 (you know the ones). Everyone is, has and will be embarrassing/cringy at some point. No shame in it, it’s just an inevitability. Cringe culture desperately needs to die already.
Honestly, I found it the most fun playing as a crewmate - maybe it was the routine and being given little jobs to do and keeping watch. I stopped playing when it became impossible to find lobbies.
@@barkingsandwich I have no problem at all finding full lobbies at 15 people. Just changing the region / country will solve the problem. I have more problems with trolls or crews who ignore clear evidence of who the killer is, frustrating AF.
i hated being imposter i felt anxiety the whole time and would be shaking lol i preferred to be crew mate and i didn't mind to die cause then ghost travel through walls lol
@@cometvaudin2850 sometimes i'd kill someone then another crew member would show up... i knew they saw me so i'd report and blame it on them in panic xD the amount of times this happened was ridiculous pffft
I think another reason quick chat was added was to make sure that children are safe playing the game and that they don't chat with older players. But it was a terrible decision to force quick chat on to everyone, including teens and adults. I'm glad they updated the game recently to add the option of free chat instead of quick chat. Also public lobbies aren't that bad. Also this game wasn't expected to explode until it did, so it doesn't really make sense to say it failed, since it's popularity is sort of falling back to how it was before the game blew up.
A lot of kids probably left after quick chat was added too, also if you wanted children to stay safe why not just do something like when you say a swear word it says “a child is here, you cannot send that.”
I always wanted to play the way streamers do They seem to be all friends and all have connections. Not many average people have that. And it sucks! It feels like a lot of games are just built for people with lots of friends. And if those friends are even interested in the first place. I’ve never touched multiplayer in a lot of games. I’ve only seen youtubers play them. See, a game like this. Large online lobby with no chat feature (among us has one, but it’s not accesible all the time unless you’re dead), is Splatoon. But that game is a different genre, which gives the lack of chat a free pass. You don’t need chat for a competitive game. Teamwork can still occur because communication is easier. Murder mystery is something that requires communication and working together If that isn’t available to you all the time, and when it is, there’s only so little time to actually talk, it ruins the point A lot of murder mystery games allow you to chat all the time, with a designated point for voting and discussion. This allows you to quickly report to other players and work together. It’s fun when you have all the features
When I used to play Among Us, literally almost every lobby I saw were for SexRPs. A good majority of the lobbies on there were these wierd people who made lobbies and banned everyone else who came in except for one person, probably a child, to talk to. It got to a point where it became more amusing to go into these lobbies and tell the the guy off until I got kicked out by him. Often times I'd seen those people still talking with other kid users and the second I'd say anything I'd be removed. It was honestly horrendous if you ask me. This is a children's app.
I would say are you serious as I haven't encountered this myself, let alone nearly as often as you apparently have, but knowing people especially today, I can't say I'm surprised. This could explain why I and almost every other player can get kicked out of a lobby only seconds after joining. 🤦🏾♂😒All the more reason for an age filter like I suggested.
Look. People in the fandoms, and other younger kids keep calling these games cringe when they're actually just good games in general. Indie games should be appreciated as like, 2 people worked on them, and the outcome was usually amazing, even if the game eventually dies out fast like Among Us. They turn into just funny jokes or memes, and then the game is basically in the incinerator.
@@Killzner_Edits Fnaf...is meant for kids now. SB was the WORST of the FNAF games, it literally removed everything that made FNAF, well....FNAF. The lore in SB, is just a confusing mess and honestly as a lore enthusiast, it hurts me. They took out the ONLY SOLID piece connecting the newest addition to the old franchise. Which was the file name "Cassidy" for the Princess quest. Its not even scary anymore, its just like "OOH RUN AROUND CONFUSED AND TRY NOT TO GET ATTACKED HU-UK HU-UK"
@@Killzner_Edits That's not how that works? FNAF always had kids in it and of course now that quarantine is here, more children are finding the games and videos. Among us falling had nothing to do with it and children don't care about lore 💀
It wasn’t the game that was cringe but the fan base that was around them which were mostly 9 year olds. Most fandoms have a small majority of them filled with cringy people (who are mostly children) and they are very loud but fandoms like among us has the majority of the fandom filled with cringy people, the fandom weren’t like that to begin with but over time they became that
Same thing goes to fnf who replaced among us popularity. Some kids in the fnf fandoms were so toxic that they make the community and the game become cringe
I think the game really would have benefited from allowing its players to friend people. It was something a lot of people asked for; When you play rounds and rounds with people - you tend to get pretty close to them. There's a lot of people that would share socials with people in order to play with them again. I think a friends list would have extended the game's life, giving people more of a reason to play if they could see if their friend was online, and be able to join them when possible.
YES!!! When I was playing this game I made a lot of friends there, it was so much fun and that what made the game better IMO. But the most frustrating thing that happened to me is that sometimes when I played the game suddenly kicks me out because there was an error. That caused me to lose friends I never saw again and kicked out of really interesting games, I was LIVID every time that happened because now that I think about it the only reason why I ever enjoyed the game and made me play it for as long as I did was because of these people. Maybe if they added a friend list to the game I will play it again
They are actually currently working on a friend's list system now if you check out their Twitter. It kind of sucks that they are just implementing this feature now, but at least its getting done.
Tbh for me it wasn’t really the typing that killed it, but the lack of updates. I didn’t mind typing, but playing the same maps over and over with no new character modes outside of: imposter, cremate, and vent cleaner (?), just got boring after awhile. Plus voice chat WOULD have been a great feature to add.
Imo public lobbies weren't as bad as he makes it out in this video. Sure it was annoying to wait for people to join, watch people leave as soon as it started, and even the long meetings. But the open chat feature made it so that during those wait times, you could have interesting conversations with people while you waited for the game to start. Although I do understand the implementation of the quick chat feature, it took away the chaos and creativity the chat conversations had.
I only ever played Amogus like 3 or 4 times. And every time I did it just made me sad that Town Of Salem was no longer free to play. Same murder mystery concept, way more fun and you could actually find ways to gather evidence. In Among Us it all felt way too random and there was no real way you could tell if someone was lying other than by luck. I found that annoying rather than fun
What these guys are saying. Not going to assume how good or bad you may be at the game, but it is definitely a game that requires, not so much skill, but moreso a sharp brain. I've been able to snuff out all of the imposters almost instantaneously just by making crucial observations from the start. Even the last game I played a few days ago saw it come down to the wire before we finally got the imposter out.
What killed it for me, as per usual, was the community. The way the meme was extremely pushed became annoying and upsetting to the point where it honestly made me hate the game itself pfff On top of it being hard to not get tired of playing the same friends over and over and well playing with randoms was just never my thing.
Among us died because its full of kids in their own discord chats teaming up, also kids started ejecting people without evidence, all because one guy says "its green" it was fun when it blew up but then the kids stayed behind and ruined it Edit: the game can still be fun if you play with friends obviously like mentioned in this video
‘Failed’ it’s is not a fail firstly this was literally a random indie dev game and I garuntee the devs didn’t expect even the popularity it’s currently at yet alone it’s peak secondly the game has made so much money and now everyone knows about it it can always come back the game didn’t fail but it succeeded way past the Devs expectations I would have said why among us declined as a title not failed
Tbh one of the main reasons Among Us got popular was because Innersloth made an Among us Joke in the Henry Stickmin Collection a month before Among us got popular.
Despite me not picking up this game again for over a year, I still think the concept of Among Us is actually pretty genius. The whole "trying to get away with murder," as well as finding clues to figure out who the imposter is, it's such a really cool idea. It did get pretty boring after a while, but you've gotta give it credit for how simple, but still fun the game was
Lol at teenagers thinking this concept is unique. For decades people have playing this game in person at parties, youth groups, summer camp, etc. Look up "Mafia".
@@razzendahcuben I never said a mafia-style game was unique, I said it was genius. Yes, games where you have to find the odd one out have existed for a while, but the execution of a fully online, space-related murder mystery with ideas like tasks and cams is a breath of fresh air in a world where so many online games are just variations of a battle royale.
I stopped playing because of the quick chat not allowing me to type it out. I literally couldn’t find stuff and was considered suspicious/wasn’t able to tell what happened. Saying red is sus is easier than finding their username and stuff- It was so annoying, and I haven’t played for about a year. It’s too bad, honestly.
Spot on. Personally, the quick chat hasn't been a problem for me as pretty much every lobby I land in sees people typing their own thoughts rather than using the quick chat. My biggest issue - again from a personal standpoint - is how hard it can sometimes be to get into a lobby. If you want to go in one that is nearly full, more often than not you can't and just get a message saying it's full. Now of course this could just be due to bad timing on your part, but still. On top of that, there are times when the server itself will crash and you can't access any lobbies period. From a community standpoint now, I think you hit the nail on the head. Voice chat would be the perfect addition for the game, and if they want to be able to protect younger audiences, then all they have to do is the following. When you create an account, you type your age. If the player is a youngster, then they can have an option to either access or not access lobbies with older players. From there, the lobbies can create groups of players who are in the same or similar age category, and boom. Even the players themselves can be specific on the age requirements for their lobbies. There's an Adults Only group I've played with quite often who have done just that. Overall, I'm still mad at Among Us for killing Fall Guys when that game was blowing up, while this game was good as nonexistent. However, I definitely tip my hat to the devs for continuing to work on it, if anything for pure passion. As recently as two nights ago (or so) I logged back in to find all sorts of neat updates such as a level system, new roles beyond the simple Crewmate and Imposter, and so on. I have little doubt that at some point sooner or later, this game will rise like a phoenix reborn and see a second revival.
Well I wish it would blow up again but in order to get popular again it has to be clean of any bugs and glitches and a super popular content creator or few content creators would start making content on it which is very rare and only happend for minecraft which pewdiepie started making content about it and it blew up for the second time
Voice chat could get implemented into the game, however not in that way; Players can easily pick any age-range they wish and enter into the category they weren't supposted to be implemented into. This raises problems, but it doesn't stop voice chat officially coming into the game (or a future game they make). Although there are already mods that do such things. Players just have to go that extra mile of installing and finding people. I don't think Among Us needs voice chat to "rise like a phoenix". It just needs better attention from port and player interaction; nice controls depending on where you're playing, making it easy and fun to play. A clever way to allow players to "chat" with the rest. A decision wheel was a fast option. They work as a secondary option, but not as the main one.
same, quick chats have never been a problem for me, I just made an account and I could type whatever I wanted. I never got what the big issue was since all you need to do is make an account and select "free chat"
when the game blew up I was watching a lot of among us but quickly I realized I actually don't like watching the game all that much unless it's very well edited. like cut out most of the doing tasks and get right to the meetings. but honestly, I don't see how this game can be considered a failure? It was small when it came out, it got popular due to circumstances, and then it fell out of popularity. it might be harder to play with people but it doesn't mean it "failed". just fell out of the spotlight. meanwhile, you've done a stellar job of acting like this game hasn't continued to thrive on its meme potential. among us is still out there. funniest thing I've ever seen. among us has stuck around kind of like the rickroll, and will continue to exist on a certain level of cultural osmosis. they made crewmate plushies. it's kind of sus not gonna lie.
a game I would say feels closer to being a failure is fall guys. it got big around the same time, but hasn't stuck around like among us. I don't really see people playing or talking about it even when they released a season 2. it's a shame, it was a lot more fun for me to watch but inherently more luck based which means there wasn't as much potential for it to keep the same level of streamer popularity.
Honestly, I remember being a fan of among us back when youtubers such as dantdm started playing it, but now I dont play it enymore because it just became repetitive and it was only popular because of Covid-19...
one time i played with randos and every time a round ended there was this one person who said “i think ___ did it” and as SOON as the words were sent, everybody voted for them. i asked them for any sort of evidence and every single round they didn’t have any, but nobody ever got suspicious of them even tho they were wrong every time. the funny thing is… they weren’t even the imposter, they were just dumb 😐 but yeah most random lobbies did that to some degree, i just had enough that day and that’s what made me quit
Damn that's really sad, but what's sadder is when I still played among us, I entered this random lobby and it was just toxic as hell, I litterly got told to shut up just for typing hello, then when the match started I was chosen as the imposter, now I wasn't a really good imposter player, that's why I was surprised that right after I had won, everyone was saying to kick me, I had no logical answer as to why they did this, but I guess they where just sore loosers. And with my experience with online gaming, I've seen other people lose to bad players on online games aswell, and there egos just completely shatter causeing them to become toxic, or if already toxic even more toxic.
I think the simpler the game is, the more success it has in its field. There is no way to "master" amongus, it has really easy control, really easy game flow, and it's super plain and clear. That's what made it so successful. People didn't have to spend time to actually get used to the environment of the game, because there was no environment in the first place, just an extremely simplistic top view murder mistery map that people got the hang of pretty quickly.
Damn bro i cant even chat on the game i need to sign in on console and xbox like what?? How am i supposed to snitch to imposter while i cant even speak on the chat list
Honestly, now that the game is back down, without all of the 9 year olds and new massive updates, the game is so much more enjoyable than during the big hype and I absolutely love it!
I will say, some people like ChilledChaos and ZeRoyalViking and their friend group are still making among us content that is honestly pretty entertaining, but they're using mods which add like a billion roles to the game and make it a lot more interesting. There was also an entire unofficial map made by streamer 5up and one of the mod teams, so really the community have at this point been doing way more to keep the game alive than the devs, even if it is kind of on life support.
Yeah, if the game had more roles and stuff to add to the murder mystery and social deduction aspect I think it would be a lot more fun. When I heard of among us it actually reminded me another game called town of salem which was sort of like the online version of mafia. The idea of actually being able to play town of Salem while being able to walk around and complete tasks seemed fun but the game doesn't have enough roles or mechanics for it to work.
I've never understood why Among Us is a meme, I've asked my friends countless times and the best answer I've ever gotten is because of how big it got so quickly, but there are so many other things that got bigger quicker, and died out just the same and haven't been turned into a meme, especially so big, just saying the word 'among' or 'imposter' creates such a big, unneeded reaction. I've never understood meme or cringe culture but like genuinely if someone was willing to explain why it became such a meme I would be very much appreciative! :DD
I discovered Among Us in late 2018 and really liked it because of how fun it was. It was pretty cool when it became super popular in 2020 but then it became overly popular and I got burnt out of the game. Ironic Among us Memes are still hilarious for me though.
I can sum up in one word what ruined Among Us for me: KIDS Playing with some 9-12 year olds with poor cognitive abilities and no communication skills really used to wind me up. They just didn't use their heads AT ALL.
They just can read (color) is sus and that's enough proof for them 😂 When someone is being accused, I ask "why is it (color)?" And I get no responce! Sometimes the whole crew agrees to skip because we have no evidence. Sometimes they skip when I saw someone shapeshift. Kids just make the game unplayable. Don't get me started on engineer and guardian angel. Engineer is too confusing and guardian angel is just boring as hell.
Something I never see mentioned or talked about is how a lot of additions/mods made to among us were similar to another game called town of Salem and by extension the irl party game mafia. If town of salem had been made in quarantine and had tasks it would literally be almost the exact same game but among us failed to have interesting and fun roles like town of Salem. That's why so many streamers modded the game with those roles. I feel like this game could've been better if it had more of those kinds of mechanics rather than being so simple.
@0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 I mean not really? The mods seemed to make the game more enjoyable and town of Salem shows that these roles and ideas can function in a game. It's not much to combine two extremely simple idea to make a more medium level game. It wouldnt be as easy to pick up in one second as among us but it would still be a ton of fun
7:26 "The game has added incredibly minimal updates with the only notable release since its late 2020 blow up being the addition of the Airship." Wait a minute. Wasn't there another update that came in November 2021 adding so much new content that made Among Us blow up again and became #1 most trending on PS4 and 5s in December 2021? You can't escape from the truth Sheeprampage. But I do agree, adding voice chat will make it more fun.
These problems are the reason why I play Suspects instead: it's hybrid voice and text chat allowed basically anyone to play, and made the game feel more social.
@0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 I agree but I find it slightly flawed too like the fact that people can go into the wrong language channels, mutes can be abused, people can be really loud and that's there's no special role for the kill unlike among us with the shapeshifter though the game is way better in many other aspects which makes me not understand why the game isn't very popular.
When it was popular, I didn't have it. Ppl would say "YOU DONT PLAY AMONG US?!?!!? EWWWW." Now I have it and I'm addicted to if if now ppl say "YOU PLAY AMONG US?!?!?! EWW." 💀
I played among up for the first time in a while, coming to the quickchat feature made the game really irritating. Amount is is the game where it’s more fun to watch than to play the game.
Among us was bound to have a larger lifespan and impact than most of the other indie games that got absurdly popular just due to the fact that it was a multiplayer game that followed a Town of Salem esque formula. I think there's still a lot of fun you can have with Among Us if that's the type of game you like, though it's definitely a gamble with the lobbies. I feel like the game is actually doing the best it can for itself. More content is pretty much all it can do to keep people around, because every game gets stale after a while. That being said, I think it's a hard sell to say the game is dead. The internet teaches you that whenever a game falls out of the public eye, it's dead, but there's still a shit ton of people playing the game. Not everything can be like Minecraft.
Honestly I liked that u could just play whenever with random strangers in a chat at like 2:30 am. It’s whatever they did to the chat that made me stop playing, the chat was like the best part
Short answer imo: It got completely memed to death, which helped at first, but led to people becoming annoyed with it. As well as the updates taking way too long to come out.
"Friends" is also a massive problem with Among Us. A lot of them have their own Discord Group that bypass the mechanism of the game. So, the killed / vented guys could still give clue outside the chat.
When Innersloth released some updates, almost no one in Egypt was able to play the game. I’m from Egypt, and we weren’t able to play Among Us for a few months because every time we tried to join a server, it would disconnect us. When the roles update came out, we were happy but still couldn’t play the game. Finally, for a few days or weeks, the game was playable again. Now it is unplayable. It’s like every time they release an update, we can’t play the game for a few months.
I wouldn’t consider secret neighbor to be better than among us… This game is real fun with friends not online. Adding secret neighbor like gameplay to make it work with online would just kill what made the game great in the first place and kill the audience that liked the game in the first place. Me and my friends _still_ play among us to this day and I love the game for exactly what it is. A local multiplayer social deception game.
Don't worry cause no one plays now. Grow up it's a baby game anyway. Racist RUclipsrs played it and didn't include black people in their money making videos. So now no one plays. Oh well. Stop supporting racists people and the games they play. PERIOD.
POV: You don't have friends so you need to play with randoms. Or your friends just don't like you and always make up excuses to not spend time with you.
I loved playing this game with my cousin, dad, uncle, friends dad/dad’s friend, friend, brother, and this person that was on the discord server we called in. It was funny! Two times I accidentally framed my imposter frendo (my dad) And one time my dad thought he heard my uncle say, “Raising the fields” we voted him out. Another time my cousin decided to say that he was innocent because he was like, “my height is 5’3 on scan” and we all voted him out, he was imposter. My dad once convinced me and my friend that he was not the murderer even though we saw him and we voted off friend’s dad/my dad’s friend. It was fun while it lasted but now it’s time to let it go 😄 I enjoyed playing with family and friends truly, but life goes on!
I played Among Us since 2020, and I remember the day it officially died. The day the Airship map premiered. Hours before the premiere, a lot of fans like me joined a Twitch stream held by the developers in Innersloth who were playing a match in the new map. In fact, I recorded the original Twitch stream. Unfortunately, many people were left with disappointment due to the additional account updates. Now they're better, but back during that day, it was rare to see a person who wasn't stuck in Quick Chat. People uninstalled the app and complains came rushing in, which eventually killed the game.
most of the time, me and my friends used to play together and enter random lobbies, we would sometimes just play normally, or help each other if we got killed. that was the most fun I ever got from it really
Admit it, We were bored of among us because we keep being crewmates. We were tired of it right? Only being an imposter is more fun. But the thing was it takes so many rounds to be an imposter, And also, can we also agree that fall guys was more fun, then among us
For the quick chat system, I'm imagining something like the Dark Souls message system. "Vent! therefore, Yellow." "Be wary of Blue, liar ahead." "Don't give up, skeleton!" "Amazing chest, try holding with both hands." "Horse?" "Try tongue, but hole." Yeah, I can see why that wouldn't work too well. The Dark Souls message system is cryptic by design, allowing you to give other players enough info to know something's up but spell it out clearly for them. "Ambush ahead, be wary of left," is pretty straightforward, but something like, "Ring required ahead," doesn't tell you specifically which ring you need, and the less straightforward the situation becomes, the more cryptic the messages get. Often there's not a good word or phrase for what you want to describe, so you have to choose the next closest thing. For example, in the Shaded Wood in DS2, in the basilisk pit, I left a message about "lava" causing equipment breakage. I think most people can understand what I'm saying, but there's clearly no lava down there, just pools of mysterious yellow liquid. It works well in Dark Souls, but it doesn't seem like it would work for a game like Among Us.
The quick chat system is the reason I stopped playing among as I literally saw someone next to a body in the game put couldn't report it properly due to quick char being so annoying to use
My problem with the game is the lack of updates and content. I get it there a small team but to be fair hiring more devs on their team would also be helpful because Among Us is a great game
According to Innersloth, they are thinking of adding voice chat but they have 2 problems (toxicity and safety) which is the cause of voice chat not being added yet.
One thing I find interesting is that it seems like Among Us has had more staying power with children. I found it very interesting at first because I enjoy that genre of game, but it quickly got stale for me. My niblings on the other hand? They still bring up Among Us every time I see them lol
I once was in a public lobby by myself, I didn’t intend on playing for 8 hours but the following events compelled me to. During this session, I joined and obviously wasn’t the host, played a few matches and the host eventually left and I became the host player… this gave me the responsibility of (trying) to manage the lobby and filter out the complete randoms that would join trying to add each other on Instagram or flirt with each other, they all got kicked. While in the game itself actually playing I noticed one particular person kept getting killed first and asked the lobby to diverge from doing so to no prevail. This player was known in game as “Elisa”, a maroon coloured bean that would ALWAYS stand between the box and left wall when a match ended. I eventually found out this was Elisa’s first time playing the game and she was quite young… PROTECTION MODE ACTIVATE. People joined and left, kept kicking the idiot players, the racists, the wannabe politicians, the potential groomers etc, they would sometimes say thing a young girl shouldn’t be reading, She’d ask what it meant and I have to ask her to ignore it and she complied and we kept playing. She was such an innocent soul to the extent where she’d refuse to kill as an imposter and just wanted to do tasks. I said earlier I only had intent on playing a few matches but once this started happening I HAD to keep playing, eventually it got a little easier for me as slowly others caught on to the situation and helped tremendously, I was NOT abandoning this lobby until Elisa quit of her own accord as I wanted the best first time experience for her as possible. Eventually she said she was tired and it was 2AM for her (it was 8AM for me as a night shift worker from the UK), and everyone and I mean EVERYONE at this point was advising her to go to bed and get some sleep.. she reluctantly did “Elisa has left the game” and we all talked in the lobby for about 20 mins worrying about this girls health that we couldn’t do anything about, no way to add her as friend to check on her, she was just GONE. So while public lobbies are 99.9% toxic, I’ll never forget my 0.1% experience with Among Us. Please be kind to Elisa
You are right about EVERYTHING, but you missed one important thing. THE ACCOUNTS UPDATE THAT THEY REFUSED TO REVERT. No one ever really cared about them, and most people are stuck as “guests” BECAUSE THEY CANT EVEN LOGIN. In short that was the worst update among us has ever done.
I like Quick Chat being in the game, I see something quick chat Is full on kids, But bigger kids and grown ups use normal chat.I like that the different players are separated so that people don’t chat random words. So I can see a positive in quick chat.
As an old fan of Henry stick man I never knew among us ever was real I left the Henry stick fan base cause I thought it ended but when I heard about among us, I then hoped on and I see the inner sloths logo,it brought a tear to my eye seeing inner sloth getting big in 2020,but as like Fortnite it goes down hill…
i love among us, i really do. it was an upgrade of a game my friends and i previously played so it was immense fun. my reason for dropping out of its circle is because they added roles. the additional complexity was too much. i seldom play with friends nowadays and its either with one or no roles.
Community opinion seems to be that roles were a great addition but I've complained about them from the beginning. They make a great example of when a game should step up and say no to what it's players want because the players don't know what they want. Roles above all just made the game overly chaotic and unfair
The entire job of the guardian angel is "Oh you just single-handedly clutched the round as impostor? you're about to get the final kill and win? SURPRIZE! an invisible ghost made them immortal and now you lose. Deal with it"
@@quisquiliarum7710 yep! that was the big problem. so many roles make it even HARDER for imposters to play when it was already hard to play as an imp from the beginning.
@0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 yeah, i understood the developers for making the decision. but when the game was already psychologically hard (using vc really enhances the game), it ruins the experience trying to keep up with 4-7 more things. but hey! at least they gave us to option to disable roles. the customizations for each lobby are *chef's kiss*
I think that the downfall in many games is the shift in the demographic and capitalism. They start to get popular while been played by teens / young adults, because the game is popular content creators will play them and that automatically will attract younger audience (think 11-13 year olds) at this point the game is so well known that merch is created ( in the case of among us we can say that companies went overboard with it) which will a) attract even younger audience and/or b) turn this game into a meme ( just like among us ). For example , no teen or young adult wants a among us giant pop it but a 10 year old would . And the moment the game turns into a meme the downfall cant be stopped because the internet gets bored of memes fast and the bigger the meme the faster we will be sick of it
I’ll never forget the time me and a few people from a group chat played among us on this different map than the usual one and start hosting “book club” which had a no violence rule and the imposter joined 💀 eventually it became a public lobby but we were still goofing around with the book club. I think it was WAY more fun to play around with unseriously than actually trying to play just bc people just would not cooperate whenever I tried to play
Now it's just sad. If you even say you'd like it, you will be made fun of. Personally, I think media just ruined it. Once something blows up, like blows up to where all kinds of people know about it, they will make cringy content and make weird sales stuff with it. I hope its one of those games that will come back and people won't drive it to the ground. (In my opinion, dont come for me) minecraft was like that, over time people just got bored or maybe people thought it was cringe and it came back in popularity.
@@styrofoam2518 so when a video game comes out and takes over the world but eventually becomes older and gets passed up by younger more popular video games. Is not a worthy "comparison" to an Athlete who comes out and takes over the world but eventually becomes older and gets passed up by younger more athletic players. You wouldn't say Kobe is a failure. Just like it's stupid to say among us failed after generating over 80 million dollars. Nobody at among us thinks they "failed"
I stopped playing among us because it became way too popular, I dont have friends to play among us with so I rely on randoms to play with, before, I had a ton of fun, met new people, everyone was chill, and did the things that were meant to do. But after the game got more popular a wave of new players came, and suddenly the game got boring quickly, most of the times people wont even chat at all! A bunch of teamers and nastier people came out and thats when I stopped playing. Among us was still fun to me, but the players at the time were just not it anymore.
While starting sentences with “and,” “but,” and “so” is technically fine… starting 50% of them with those words gets monotonous very quickly. Most of the script could be interpreted as a few run-on sentences, but a generous transcription yields: 70 total sentences, 7 starting with "And", 8 with "Now", 9 with "So", 10 with "But". Altogether that's 34/70 starting with just 4 words.

Man, when he said Among Us was the biggest game of *2020* that hit hard. Time flies by so fast.
It’s true though, it was only really because of the pandemic and everyone being bored.
Sheeeet can’t believe it’s already 2022
And soon, it will be 7 years since it was a hit. We're getting old 😔
Yeah hard to believe I've been on Roblox for 5 years now.
bruh it came out in 2017
In my opinion what killed among us are a few things,
I died before the airchip
Maybe but tbh I think streamers would’ve picked up the game regardless of the pandemic or not, the pandemic just escalated things. The basic gameplay loop of Among Us makes it extremely streamer-friendly and it was already quickly gaining traction 2018-2019 way before covid became a thing.

Also none of these games are dead at all, they just have a bad rep in my opinion
That's pretty cringe bro.... 😬😬
Thing is roblox isn’t really dead, just people think mainly kids play which isn’t correct, it’s now tweens and teens

It got to a point where it became more amusing to go into these lobbies and tell the the guy off until I got kicked out by him. Often times I'd seen those people still talking with other kid users and the second I'd say anything I'd be removed. It was honestly horrendous if you ask me. This is a children's app.

Saying red is sus is easier than finding their username and stuff-
It was so annoying, and I haven’t played for about a year.
This is actually very true.

Its probably just a lobby full of kids
I think the simpler the game is, the more success it has in its field. There is no way to "master" amongus, it has really easy control, really easy game flow, and it's super plain and clear. That's what made it so successful. People didn't have to spend time to actually get used to the environment of the game, because there was no environment in the first place, just an extremely simplistic top view murder mistery map that people got the hang of pretty quickly.

They're cringe as well
Yeah, if the game had more roles and stuff to add to the murder mystery and social deduction aspect I think it would be a lot more fun.
:DD

It definitely helped make some aware of it but Among us was way bigger than just an Easter egg in another title
I discovered Among Us in late 2018 and really liked it because of how fun it was. It was pretty cool when it became super popular in 2020 but then it became overly popular and I got burnt out of the game. Ironic Among us Memes are still hilarious for me though.
@0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 SHUT UP YOU SAID YOU NEVER PLAYED IT
I can sum up in one word what ruined Among Us for me:
KIDS
Playing with some 9-12 year olds with poor cognitive abilities and no communication skills really used to wind me up. They just didn't use their heads AT ALL.
@0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 Under 13*.
They just can read (color) is sus and that's enough proof for them 😂
When someone is being accused, I ask "why is it (color)?" And I get no responce!
7:26 "The game has added incredibly minimal updates with the only notable release since its late 2020 blow up being the addition of the Airship."
Wait a minute. Wasn't there another update that came in November 2021 adding so much new content that made Among Us blow up again and became #1 most trending on PS4 and 5s in December 2021? You can't escape from the truth Sheeprampage. But I do agree, adding voice chat will make it more fun.
No one was talking about the new roles for more than a week
These problems are the reason why I play Suspects instead: it's hybrid voice and text chat allowed basically anyone to play, and made the game feel more social.
@0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 I agree but I find it slightly flawed too like the fact that people can go into the wrong language channels, mutes can be abused, people can be really loud and that's there's no special role for the kill unlike among us with the shapeshifter though the game is way better in many other aspects which makes me not understand why the game isn't very popular.
What killed it for me was the removal of the chat
@@Robin_LSM he meant the quick chat thing
@@Robin_LSM oh that makes sense
When it was popular, I didn't have it. Ppl would say "YOU DONT PLAY AMONG US?!?!!? EWWWW." Now I have it and I'm addicted to if if now ppl say "YOU PLAY AMONG US?!?!?! EWW." 💀
Also the fact when playing public Lobby most of the people just left because they want to be the imposter
The Game may be dead, but the sussy memes are still among us.
Quickchat ruined among us
It was only popular cause of the pandemic and people wanted to find something to play
I played among up for the first time in a while, coming to the quickchat feature made the game really irritating. Amount is is the game where it’s more fun to watch than to play the game.
You do know that if you go into the settings you can turn off the quick chat feature, right?
You need a account to do that I tried and it crashed 3 times
They removed freedom of chatting and that was the reason I stopped playing it
I always find it weird how after games like among us's popularity boost people automatically assume it's a dead game afterwards.
Short answer imo: It got completely memed to death, which helped at first, but led to people becoming annoyed with it. As well as the updates taking way too long to come out.
@0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 All things lose their shine one day.
Now, it’s not dead, just having a down trend.
You see, it’s normal for a game’s player base to fluctuate and change frequently.
Honestly, it lasted way longer than expected.
To be honest, I never really lost interest in Among Us. I still love the game and play it often despite it's downfall.
Yup, same for me lol
If they add more game modes then maybe i’ll come back or atleast new mechanics or roles
cause to be honest the game’s too random and repetitive, it’s by chance if people would trust you or not.
I wouldn't say it's a downfall, more so coming back to almost it's original state. Having no loud annoying kids has been GREAT
I actually stopping playing because of the quick chat, it was hard for me at that time. I found the game a masterpiece but it's hard to play now.
I haven't played it in months but "sus", "vent", "imposter" and "among" haven't left my brain
I remember when a friend of mine said we should install that back in 2019.
If only I knew a few months later the game would blow up.
That's not a friend then
I loved playing this game with my cousin, dad, uncle, friends dad/dad’s friend, friend, brother, and this person that was on the discord server we called in.
The fact they are still continuing the game with an upcoming map and even a VR game.
When the memes are more relevant than the game itself
Admit it, We were bored of among us because we keep being crewmates. We were tired of it right? Only being an imposter is more fun. But the thing was it takes so many rounds to be an imposter,
And also, can we also agree that fall guys was more fun, then among us
I stopped playing amogus since the shitty safe chat was added
You could off the safe chat and chat freely
@@zakeeshaikh8758 the guy is probably 12 and had to verify his age for free chat
For the quick chat system, I'm imagining something like the Dark Souls message system.
"Vent! therefore, Yellow."
"Be wary of Blue, liar ahead."
"Don't give up, skeleton!"
"Amazing chest, try holding with both hands."
"Horse?"
"Try tongue, but hole."
Yeah, I can see why that wouldn't work too well.
They should have definitely hired more devs when the game was in peak popularity.
Among us adding quickchat was bad kids can just turn the Censors on
You have to feel bad for the devs. They make really good, high-quality games and it's really fun.
According to Innersloth, they are thinking of adding voice chat but they have 2 problems (toxicity and safety) which is the cause of voice chat not being added yet.
Things that ruined Among us
The word "Sussy Baka"

I eventually found out this was Elisa’s first time playing the game and she was quite young…
PROTECTION MODE ACTIVATE.
People joined and left, kept kicking the idiot players, the racists, the wannabe politicians, the potential groomers etc, they would sometimes say thing a young girl shouldn’t be reading,
She’d ask what it meant and I have to ask her to ignore it and she complied and we kept playing.
Eventually she said she was tired and it was 2AM for her (it was 8AM for me as a night shift worker from the UK), and everyone and I mean EVERYONE at this point was advising her to go to bed and get some sleep.. she reluctantly did
“Elisa has left the game”
and we all talked in the lobby for about 20 mins worrying about this girls health that we couldn’t do anything about, no way to add her as friend to check on her, she was just GONE.
So while public lobbies are 99.9% toxic, I’ll never forget my 0.1% experience with Among Us.
Please be kind to Elisa
Wow. You’ve wrote so much things but only got 4 likes..
I think im the only one who read it. Good job though!
So I can see a positive in quick chat.

i love among us, i really do. it was an upgrade of a game my friends and i previously played so it was immense fun.
my reason for dropping out of its circle is because they added roles. the additional complexity was too much. i seldom play with friends nowadays and its either with one or no roles.
@0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 O o 0 yeah, i understood the developers for making the decision. but when the game was already psychologically hard (using vc really enhances the game), it ruins the experience trying to keep up with 4-7 more things.

sadly people moved onto different things, they took forever to release the map and i think since then people just lost interest
Also the "quick" chat that is actually slow and limited
The game might die.
But the memes will rise.
I still play some awesome games of Among Us every week. I hope things improve for it and it makes a come back. It's such a blast.
And the moment the game turns into a meme the downfall cant be stopped because the internet gets bored of memes fast and the bigger the meme the faster we will be sick of it
Honestly for the sake of merchandising it feels like a lot of these games subtly target children. And that’s kinda why it all gets annoying fast.
I agree with this.
The main reason it died because it was the same over again ._.
