People who criticize the use of plastic film load wrap as the primary weather proofing material and aluminum foil as the heat reflector do not understand or appreciate the point of these kinds of videos, or are being deliberately ignorant of the point in order to criticize. Survival is the art of improvisation. You may find yourself in a situation where your survival depends on finding new uses of common objects and materials because the ideal material may not be available. That’s what’s at the core of all these bush crafts survival videos
Honestly would have never even crossed my mind to use the plastic wrap like that to keep heat in. Absolutely brilliant. Not the "traditional bushcraft method" but this could safe your life if need be. And even if you never have any reason use it, its more knowledge gained. Amazing videos!

@@prashantraj71 He didn't make it tight. Condensation would be a problem without the wood stove, maybe, but the wood stove is pulling fresh air in all the time.
Just remember to do the skinny-dipping in the lake immediately after you do all the work to make the hole, when you're super-heated.
I notice when he came back to the shelter, there was standing water on the tarp cover. Inside was dry, but the point is that it was above freezing. He didn't do this at arctic cold temps.
I wonder what chopping and sawing the ice did to his axe blade and saw blade.
I can't even wrap a sandwich with that stuff.

Cool shelter. As a builder and someone who spends time roofing, I would wrap the tree walls first, lay the tarp on top and let it hang over the sides so that it overlaps the top of the outer walls, then wrap the overhanging part of the tarp to hold it in place. Otherwise, all the water that spills over the edges goes right inside.
40C is 104 Fahrenheit…. That is pretty hot in there.that mouse is smart and staying warm…lol

yes, everyone has 600 rolls of clear packing tape with them on an island, well not everyone, i mean only have 483 rolls i used 108 to make a privy and a few as TP for my bunghole

I agree… this shelter build is pure genius. Double insulation with readily accessible / lightweight materials coupled with natural resources is the perfect blend of man-nature… some may moan about plastic being used and left out there, but honestly, I don’t see an issue with it since it’s being used and maintained. No bears 🐻 were hurt during the filming of this video.
I believe that was a good idea to take down the plastic. Not all visitors would treat it with the same safety you did.

There's nothing like a nice warm dip in a frozen lake to get the olde heart pumping. Being a tad spoiled as i am, i think i will stick to a nice refreshing dip into a bathtub of 85 degree bath water to keep my heart pumping. Cool video though, the man is definitely got something in common with your everyday run of the mill polar bear. I did icebreaking drills whilst skiing in Norway, and let me tell you it is not nice lol. what this guy just did stripping down to his undies and and dunking his whole body under the ice in the water is insane! this guy is one tough individual! respect
Yeah did it once since my dad and all my uncles did it in the army back in their old country. They made me do it when I was in my teens. Quite literally, I asked for help since I thought I was freezing to death. It fucking hurt to my core
ima navy seal team 6 member and we went to do this in the antarctic we had to climb a 600' high glacier sheer and set pitons and then built a ledge and slept up there in little tents and the next morning at 4am we had to jump into the arctic sea and get knocked around my huge waves and try to find the raft in the dark without losing our gear , drowning or freezing to death , this prepared us for 140 degree desert temperatures

I live in a tropical country which is always hot even though it is rainy season. I dream of living in a snowy country even if it's only for a week.. it would be nice.
As a Canadian all I can really say is .... be careful what you wish for ... you may just get it hahahahah
this idea could save a lot of homeless lives, along with a sheet metal type wood stove and damn.... could survive a lot of cold nights
