@@evokerhero I think the entire notion is that if he were to be a plant, it would be heavily implied, it’s not really his music then.
People whom are industry plants almost always lack real genuine talent. It almost always implies someone else is writing the music, producing the music, recording reference tracks so you are proverbially just “tracing” the song like you would with a picture out of a children’s “trace your favorite character book”. I mean, let’s face it, he said it himself in this interview, he didn’t blow up until he was talked into using autotune, implying that his own natural voice wasn’t quite good enough to break through on his own....that’s pretty diminishing....especially if all of the aforementioned skills or lack there of, are being provided by an outside source.
Shit, industry plants are almost 100% groomed and created by the industry. Look at fucking Billy Idol, dude at least had more raw talent than someone like Ian....but still he’s so bloody fake, it’s cringe....
Also one last thing...it did sort of comes off fake and inauthentic when he was talking about “playing his guitar” all the time and talking about having “anxiety” issues, as if that hasn’t been beat like a dead horse in this “sound cloud emo rap game”. He iterally has never ACTUALLY played guitar on a track or on stage and shows zero to very little signs of someone who has more than average anxiety problems or issues. Not to knock mental health, he could easily actually suffer from that shit, I just take that stuff very seriously because I struggle with my mental health and serious anxiety very much so on a daily basis and I absolutely hate and can sense when people just use it as an accessory or crutch to portray themselves as “edgy”, “cool”, or “troubled & riddled with anxiety”....I’m getting those heavy vibes here.
Then goes on to get something wrong about literally all three artists he listed as inspiration...not only are Panic at The Disco and Paramore not even remotely close to being metal, he referred to the Strokes as something like chill California music....it’s like dude, not only is that just objectively not the sound or scene they have or represent....they LITERALLY are from the complete opposite side of the country ( NYC) and that is like their entire identity....The Strokes are completely synonymous with the NYC scene, style, sound....they could not be any further from the “California” vibe he’s referring to....anybody who actually listens to the Strokes could tell you that....thus even further exposing himself as sort inauthentic....I never until now actually considered he could be a plant....I mean he basically implied it also when he was referring to moving to LA and having everybody in his ear telling him exactly what to do....it’s like he may not be completely a “plant” at this very moment...but he certainly got his start in a very manufactured, inauthentic, and possibly even fraudulent way
