"You have to gonna look at where you´re going to jump (beyond your hands)"! Precious advice, Teacher Esther! I used to look at my hands and not beyond.. Noticed important improvement during my practice today! Thank you!!
I love Esther's voice. Not many instructors bother explaining or correcting this step. As someone with a shorter torso and long legs, I was always confused as to how anyone was able to jump forward. I tried this and am definitely realizing that I was looking forward enough, nor was I engaging my core. Will be working on this.
This move always reminds me of a horse kicking out the back of the stable. It seems silly but I am scared to do it and when I try. I get about 2 inches and then clumsily shuffle the rest of the way. you make good points. I never thought to lift the hips first - that is genius! and looking ahead with the eyes is also a good idea .
I'm thinking this might help with downward facing dog to crane/crow pose. Tried it in class this week and it was, um, well lets just say interesting. Now I'm trying to figure out how to do it :) Thanks for this. I'll start here. Less falling on face :)
@diekontrolleure There is more to yoga than the postures and the breath (eight-fold path). In the west, we largely start with asana (posture) and some (pranayama) breathing and many don't go past that, which is fine. But there is more to yoga than these two things. I thought "I'm not flexible so I'm not going to do yoga". But once I started, I was hooked. It's really quite challenging and has helped me with two health problems. Hope you stick with it and find it helpful too. Peace.
Lol, the first time I tried this, my knees smashed into my elbows, and I fell on my face. Yoga fail! I think I've got it down now, though. :P Great vid and clear instructions, as always. Thanks for posting.
how are you able to become so flexable, im 6'3 and am learning yoga, but im 40lbs over weight so i just became a raw vegan and am losing the weight slowly ,i really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work

Beautifully explained and illustrated. Thank you!
Wish I could give this more than five stars. Of Esther's shorter vids this is one of the best. Simple and all I needed for this move.
That was really helpful. In my yoga classes they make us jump but never thought there was a technique to do it. So thx. Will keep practicing.
