Another fantastic lesson, you seem to share my musical taste.Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge have a wonderful New Year and hopefully see you soon.
Thanks a lot Ray and a happy new year to you also. It seems as if the video quality was better or even normal this morning. many frendly greetings, Soeren
Formidable theme and excellent performance. I will be able to use the backing to practice the minor blues that you advised me so well with the Aeolian, Dorian and Phrygian. Thank you very much Soeren and Happy New Year 2023.
Hi Salvador! Just a small detail about the minor scale. In the cases where you have all minor chords, like Cm-Fm-Gm you should use the Aeolian minor scale as you have already learned. In cases (as in this song) where you have the changes Cm- F9-G9, you should use the C Dorian minor (the only difference id that you shall raise the flatted six to a six.) You can stay in the dorian minor and rely on your ears. But try to notice that if you play the C minor dorian started on the F - Which is the forth note- you are actually playing the mixolydian scale. I will later explain the modes, but if it gets to absract, then just thing C minor Dorian and rely on your ears. Friendly greetings, Soeren
@@soerenguitarlessons9947 Hello Soeren. I will take into account everything you are explaining to me, it is very useful and has helped me a lot, now to play solos and phrases on these progressions I feel freer and with more basis to face them, I no longer use so many licks, I copy less and I have more creativity with these scales. Your advice is very instructive, thank you very much Soeren.
I think I've been a J.J. Cale fan since I was 15 or so. I was already familiar with this tune and I really enjoyed your version! I think the "Latin" (or "Hispanic") flavor really becomes this song. That minor scale blends extremely well with blues music (there are many examples: "Lucky Lou", "All Your Love", or "Black Magic Woman", etc). Anyway, thanks for another high quality lesson, Soeren, and happy 2023!!
Thanks a lot abrigospardos! I think, as I was younger I didn´t understand the laid back virtuosity of JJ Cale. I am happy you liked my version, It inspired me so much, that I went to the local musicstore to buy the quinto that you hear on the recording, Happy new year and friendly greetings, Soeren
I had recently commented on enjoying Latin influence with blues and started using more the harmonic minor scale. I'm guessing along with the minor dorian scale you mentioned, I can inject some harmonic minor riffs as well. I always love a foundation in blues but throw in some jazz or Latin style licks to bend the ear and to occasionally make it sound different from just straight up blues phrasing. This song by JJ Cale is fantastic to play over! Thanks again Soeren for another year of excellent lessons and ideas helping making us better guitar players from thousands of miles away. It is very much appreciated. 👍🎸 Happy New Year Soeren and as always, the very best to you. Ed
Hi again Ed and thanks a lot. Sure you can use the harmonic minor scale, especially where the song in the last line go to the dominant chord, which here is a D7, but you can just use your ear, where you want to hear it. You can also use melodic minor, that is really easy to learn, as it is " the major scale with a flatted third. I loved these congas in the back ground so much, that I bought one, (its actually a quinto) that is now standing among my guitars shining in beautiful naturel wood. Again thank you so much, I wish you all the best oin the new year, Friendly greetings, Soeren
@@soerenguitarlessons9947 Yes indeed the melodic minor is another fantastic scale to use so thanks for reminding me of that. I've seen some beautiful congas over the years, especially with Latin style bands that play locally here in San Jose. Those marvelous drum sounds are so distinct when you hear them; especially when played by someone who knows what they're doing! Looking forward to 2023 as well. Best regards Soeren, Ed.
Nice video, thanks! I am re learning this one at the moment for a band. We are going to mix the original version with a bit of Santana´s feel if we can. I really like your chord/scale choice. :)
Thanks a lot ! Beside the guitars I also played congas on this video, maybe giving it a certain latin flavor. Good luck with your own version of this beautiful song. Greetings, Soeren
Hi again Walter and thanks a lot. I really enjoyed playng this song and had a lot of fun playing the conga (quinto) too. Many friendly greetings, Soeren
Hi Jac Jac. Thanks for your interest. Loved to make this backingtrack with my new Congas. You can use the backingtrack at the end of the song to solo which again is the meaning of these tracks. As said I appreciate your interest, and hope you will have a lot of fun playing along the track. friendly greetings, Soeren
Hi Mike I go through the chords orally at 6.02 and I have written it down at 9.07. Maybe this video was made at a time were befor I used tabs. Hope you get through the lesson anyway, Soeren
Si Claro, I too love Santana ! but I tryed more to go into the vibe of the original JJ Cale composition on this recording, think it worked out quite well, greatings, Soeren
JJ had the smoothest, most effortless fretting hand, that I ever saw...
RIP JJ. Thank You!

Way too sanitised and clinical for my taste.
