This is a nice video. I can imagine that had to have been hard for the pilots who flew them and also all the flight attendants who served passengers on them. They become like your office and you know them like the back of your hand. They were nice aircraft. They will be missed!
Thank you! I can't imagine how difficult it must be for the DC-9 flight crews to part ways with an aircraft with so much reliability and character. All of the sights and sounds of this classic airliner will be missed.
I definitely miss these too and really enjoyed flying on the -30's when Northwest/Delta still had them. One of the last passenger airliners with some character.
Since the reg. # ends w/ NC, this aircraft was originally North Central Airlines. It has the odd history of wearing 4 names w/o technically changing airlines. Through mergers this bird has been North Central, Republic, Northwest, and Delta.
Definitely take advantage of those MD-80s while you can. Would love to hop on Canadian North soon. After researching, it looks like they already took the combi off the Edmonton - Yellowknife route. Last year that was low hanging fruit with cheaper fares. Kicking myself for not doing it.
LoveJT8D if i get lucky i might be on one on February 5, crossing fingers for that, i might have been on niners all my life but its always fun to ride em.
I believe that is exhaust soot that causes discoloring when the clamshell thrust reversers are deployed. You can also see that soot on 737-200 models that have white paint with the same kind of engines. It could also be exhaust soot from the APU.
@@LoveJT8D I agree, I have sat there by design and still can hear that turbine whine/buzz right next to my ear like it was yesterday. Flew on North Central and Republic DC-9s a lot, I was very fortunate.
I don’t think it was. If memory serves me correctly, the newer stretched “DC-9” family that was originally DC-9-80 then was designated MD-80, 81, 82, 83, 88. Then lastly MD-95 which was changed to 717.
Wow! All the ex-North Central aircraft. How wonderful! Thank you Delta for keeping original registrations.

Another amazing aircraft I will definitely miss :(
Great video, thanks for sharing, I liked !!! :)
Excellent footage of the 9. Thanks, and very nice at 60 fps! 5 stars!
ss71Leadsled1 Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Flew the DC-9-50 with Delta many times and even with Northwest when they had them. Miss them a lot. One of my favorites.

Nice old girl. Will be missed....

+Dana Danarosana Quite a history with these aircraft.
I'm a huge fan of the JT8D as well. I try to fly the MD 80s as much as I can. Canadian North still flies the 737-200 combi with the JT8D engines

Come back DC-9! ☹️
Matt Moyes I wish each airline would just keep 1 or 2 of them in rotation for us aviation lovers.
This is great. Would've love to be on just one.
I'm from North Dakota and I love how they all have NC registrations still
Awesome, man I wish I could have flown on one of those
goodbye old girl and thank you .
Dang the DC-9-90 at 3:27 is huge compared to the DC-9-50
They're both part of history now.
even here @Venezuela the dc9 is fading away, only a -51 left (first owner finnair '78). But we still have plenty of MD80 time to go 8)
+leonelp51 Sad to see the DC-9's go, but glad you have the MD-80 to go for a while.

I definitely miss the DC-9.
what is all the black stufff on the back of the delta plane at 0:41

OMG the Last window is at the engines height! RIP Last delta dc9
The sound is awesome if you are sitting next to that last window :)
LoveJT8D Shure it is!

@3:26 MD-90's engines soooo much more sexy
Neil Hanbury I just may have to disagree ;)
At 04:17 you can see that the inner flap actuator on the left wing has lost its housing or cover
Juan Arg Interesting! Never noticed that.
Was this type ever re-designated MD-85?

Delta and NWA really did squeeze every last bit of juice out of them old birds, didn't they xD... Amzing!...
Anybody else here right before the retirement of the md90 and md88?
