Marantz was actually bought by superscope in 1964 and later sold their interests in marantz in 1980. I've seen some old gear with both brand names on them, very interesting. Cool video too maxx, keep em coming :)
Was reading through the comments and noticed no one answered you question about superscope. I was told the name Sony stands for superscope of New York, the part I could not confirm. Superscope did in fact own marantz until the mid 80's when they sold them. I have several superscope receivers and love them all. I have a model r1240 that I screwed up and damage the left channel on, so I b pi ught another for parts, but it works so good I dont want to part it even though the case is not great. Just found your channel and an subscribed now. Hope to see you do more with superscope.
Superscope execs met with the just started Sony in the late 50's and came to a distribution agreement. The companies would be separate, Sony would build units sold under the Sony Superscope label... Mid 60's, Superscope acquired Marantz. Eventually, Sony quit it's partnership with Superscope in 75 but Marantz was with Superscope until after both were bought by Dynascan in '87. Yamaha also was connected to Superscope, purchasing the Superscope Pianorecorder divison in '87.
I believe it is push pull, 2 transistors per ch.in push pull. I have exact same amp also use on my comp with 2 gnp 5 inch 2 way bookshelves and a radio shack sub. Was my gramps amp, does sound really good on the computer. No lite dimming issue tho. Do like the idea of beefing up the power supply but you know what "they" say, "if it works don't fix it".
@Vinylrecordsneverdie Yep, that's what this one is doing. Since the pilot light is running off the main filter cap, I can tell how much it's dropping down under load. The power supply is 36v at idle, and around 30v at higher volume. I won't be able to get it perfect, but there's definitely room for some upgrades.
@Organgrinder010 Same here! Marantz has indeed been owned by Superscope for some time, so that's kinda ironic. I think that first song was Lonely Bed by Albert Cummings. I love me some blues :-)
pretty sure superscope bought marantz- and then the marantz name got bought by dennon and became denon professional ?!- anyway i love marantz vintage gear especially the 22& 44 series of receivers+ love your videos -they always have great music i them
@stillfindingmyway I want to say that it uses a quasi-complimentary OP stage with all NPN transistors, but I don't have the service manual yet so I can't say for sure. I don't want to remove the heatsink to check :-)
I've got a newer sony boombox that does the same thing. The power light dims way down during bassy passages. As for the Superscope thing, I've got a Sony TC-100 cassette recorder with the Superscope logo on the bottom. Thats all I know.
i have an old amp that i got the other day and the right channel isn't working. it had a blown fuse so i replaced it and they keep blowing. if i short out the two ends of the fuse than both channels work but the right speaker hums and the heat sink on the amp board gets really hot. is there a way to fix it?
err! no the superscope amps were made for marantz USA by the Standard radio corporation japan but were in fact amplifiers already designed and made by the standard radio corporation,as USA marantz were manufacturers of tube amps and they liked the way standard radio built amps and recievers your a245 is actualy a standard PM403w,I got one.At the same time sony also had amps made in the standard factory also using standard radios designs,it was the beginning of the transistor amplifiers.as for producing standard amps and badging them for super scope(marantz) or sony, that all came to an end in 1974,when marantz outright bought the standard radio corp, manufacturing plant in 1974,standard radio corp then became marantz, and some of the original standard radio designs also went over and got badged as the early marantz amps and recievers.I just got my pm403 so i am watching both vids for upgrade tips re caps rectifier and all.now vid 1 but that amp sounds good, amazing for only 10 watts, but you are running i think some big speakers.thanks for the restauration tips

I gotta an A260 Superscope bought it new in 1976 and it’s still going strong ☝️
It's an old reference to "Battery +", from back when radios ran on batteries. It just refers to the power supply voltage.
gotta love vintage audio hardware.
Please do a follow up video on this Superscope amp and Utah speakers. Both are a awesome combination.

man that sounds sweet...great work keep it up
what do you think about audio grade capacitors.I don't seem to see them in your audio equipment,or even in your Utah speakers.

Sounds like the output transistors are shorted. Do not bypass fuses! You will probably blow your speakers and further damage the amp. What kind is it?
Can you make a video how to replace the phono input, mine seems to be broken...
That's a nice little amp, 13 watts per channel. Do you want to fix it, or sell it?
@Maxxarcade the one at the one minute mark. would be the first one :D sounds really really nice

@vener6 That's what I thought! Thanks for the info.
what song is that it sounds really nice? :D
i normally do a full recap .even the large ones
@Prismatica It's in the description :-)
@joshhsega I know, and it's only 3000uf too. The new one would be like 1/4 the size LOL.
@imfree707 Switch is fine, problem is on the DC side.
I just seen one on ebay 60 bucks one thing worng with it but it works
@Intelpentium54321 The only Sansui I've rebuilt was a 1000X. They are one of the better brands out there and very well built.

Superscope was part of Sony.
my Superscope amp 100000mf 71 V cap
I guess you mean 10,000 µF (microFarad), which is about 10,000 times less.
