This would be funny if you didn’t steal it from a meme.
Yeah, Vader's death is a cinematic masterpiece. Imagine taking one of the most hated villains in fiction and making people cry in despair when he dies. Not many could pull that off.
I didn't cry in despair. It was sad for Luke, but Vader was far from redeemed.
@@elliotjohnson9415 we all know what that lightsaber killed. No spoilers
When Leah says, "I've always known." she meant deep down on a spiritual level she felt it. She didn't consciously know.
Literally every reaction I've seen doesn't get this, but I guess its hard for people to see past the smooch
I saw it as some instinctive bond, but not a conscious knowing they’re siblings. It’s so obvious.
People tend to not understand that statement. I totally understood it at 9 years old.
Sometimes people say words like "always" but not meaning it in its most literal terms. As time went on I'm sure she began to feel some connection to him but couldn't quite wrap her mind around it. When he told her the truth, it all "clicked". It was more an emotional response. I'm sure they had a cluck later when they talked about how they had kissed a year earlier!
Ah yeah makes sense, too focused on the smooch haha
"choke him! He probably likes it...the dirty bugger" made ME choke on my tea lmao
Haha he definitely likes it
I choked on my coffee….lol
Actually he’s saying: “Help!!! This rebel bitch is choking me!!!”)

One of my favourite parts of this film is the emperors laugh when Luke tries to kill him. His laugh echoes everywhere but he is barely chuckling.
His laugh is too good

I am surprised if no other reactors like him tbh
@@SebScreen they tend to look at characters through one dimension, black & white. The Emperor is pure evil, no good in him, not our hero. However acting was amazing, facial expressions, lines delivered, body posture, mystery of black cloak, special power he has
And he just has so much FUN in the role.
"Finally?" Who doesn't love the Emperor? Especially after the prequels...he's one of the most iconic villains in cinema history.
@@Corn_Pone_Flicks finally someone who made reaction vide to fully appreciate the Emperor
This was my favorite Star Wars movie. I know a lot of people say Empire Strikes Back is best, but there's just something about that last fight between Vader and Luke in this one that gives me chills. When Vader says "Your sister... yessss you have a twin sister!" and the perfect performance by Mark Hamill, demonstrating a balance between hatred and forgiveness (not a typical jedi). In the end Luke failed, and it was Anakin (Vader) that was the true savior.. but only because of Luke's love for his father/family. Plus the speed bikes are awesome. And the epic space battle. Jabba was cool too.
I think both A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back are better films, but Return of the Jedi wrapped those two up perfectly. It's such an amazing final movie to the trilogy
Me too but I prefer the original cuts if these movies not the special edition
One of my favorite, more subtle moments out of everything in that throne room sequence (which there’s a great many cuz it’s some of the best Star Wars EVER) is after Luke cuts off Vader/Anakin’s hand. The way he turns back to look at the hand, noticing that Vader too had a robotic hand, then looking back at his own. He realizes in that moment what path he was starting to go down... he is BECOMING Vader, something that was even implied back in Empire in that one dream like sequence on Dagobah. That’s what makes him tossing aside his lightsaber and the dialogue to follow so powerful to me. Brilliantly written, and acted across the board
I slightly misunderstood that scene when I first saw it as a kid, as I'd forgotten that Luke had put that black glove over his damaged hand towards the start of the film. I took the Emperor's statement of "strike him down and take your father's place" literally, and thought that Vader's hand had actually replaced his own, and that if he killed Vader outright, he'd fully become Vader. Later I realized it was just a metaphor, but it still kind of worked...I got the point of it anyway.
well said.
I also just now realized that when yoda warned "dont underestimate the powers of the Emperor..."
Luke failed to do so....and maybe that's why he threw away his lightsaber.
From Luke's point of view, now that Vader lost his hand and his saber, the Emperor is too weak for me to even NEED a lightsaber. If he hadnt underestimated him, Luke might have been able to defend himself from the lightning with his own saber.
The thing I love the most about those scenes is that it's not explicitly stated, but still very much there. "Show, don't tell."
i dont know if it is ever made explicit. the emperor wants Luke to kill Vader and take his place because there can only be one true apprentice to a Sith lord. vader perhaps realized how he was manipulated to kill the last apprentice. (dooku)
"50 thousand does seem pretty cheap, for Chewie" True, but for reference, recall Luke from A New Hope: "Ten thousand! We could almost buy our own ship for that!"
Ah yeah I forgot that line

Leah didn’t “know” she knew Luke was her brother until he told her and then all her feelings of connection suddenly made sense. Sometimes we don’t know what we know until it is revealed to us.
What's more cruel, owning a droid torture chamber, or creating droids designed to feel pain when they are damaged?
spoiler for prequel,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I always figured they added feelings to droids after the war, in the first one especially you can tell 3po has little emotional involvement, but especially by New Hope, his first words are fear, "we're doomed".. If they can feel, smart droids would be less likely to blindly fight for others.
In the same vein I wonder who programmed droids to laugh, like in the TCW show. It's so macabre xD
I’m pretty sure in legends, jabba has droids that disappoint him installed with pain receptors so he can torture them
It’s more like Leia sensed a connection between her and Luke, and she at first believed it to be romantic.
nice explanation
2:33 Jabba here is smoking a drug known as spice. It is a powder that is mined and refined into a breathable gas. It is incredibly addictive, and the Hutts maintain a firm grip on the spice market as a source of a lucrative amount of credits. The primary source of spice in the galaxy is Kessel, which was mentioned by C-3P0 in ANH. And yes, Han Solo is a drug mule whenever he is smuggling spice.
I’ve noticed that many who watch this for the first time without having seen the prequels are confused when they see Hayden Christiansen at the end as Anakin Skywalker. This was never an issue before that particular special edition change.
Exactly. I always feel bad for the actor who was replaced in the ending scene with Christiansen. It just makes so much more sense (to me anyway) to keep the original actor in the scene.
@@graymouser6599 It works for me because Anakin was Christiansen and only Anakin can be a force ghost because he was the Jedi.
Yeah I was confused at first
@Fatima Carrano No Anakin died in the Death Star Hangar. It should 100% remain Sebastian Shaw as the ghost of Anakin. Putting Hayden in there is one of the worst in a very long list of horrible changes.
@@QuayNemSorr Exactly. Hayden Christiansen's Anakin never was a Jedi, he was Obi Wan's apprentice. Anakin became a true Jedi when he saved his son by defeating the emperor.
The scenes of the celebrations across the Galaxy were added in 1997, some even added even more with little details put in further, such as the Senate Building and Jedi Temple that you’ll see in the prequels. The original final song wasn’t even what’s played here. You can the original, more tribal track used, called Yub Nub.
Which makes it sound more like a sweet candy made with nuts
I wish there was some type of build your own Star Wars movie feature, that let you chooses what edits you wanted in the movie because there are some changes I love and some I really dislike. I love the new music, the celebrations, and Hayden's force ghost, but I hate Vader's "No...NO!"
For those of you fighting over why it’s Hayden as the force ghost I have a little fan answer, it’s because yes even though he wasn’t a full fledged Jedi master when he looked like that it makes sense when his spirit passes on that’s the form he naturally takes because in his mind when he looked like that he was good to him that’s when he was a Jedi not when he defeated the emperor, to him the older man that killed hundreds of thousands of innocents wasn’t Anakin Skywalker that was Vader even without the mask that was Vader but the moody boy with shaggy hair that cared about each and every person he fought beside, that was Anakin and that’s why he looked like his younger self. But hey that’s just one nerds theory.

Loved seeing your reactions to the original Star Wars Trilogy. Many of the changes over the years (Special Edition 1997, DVD release, Bluray release, Disney+ release ...) have been ... err ... controversial among parts of the fanbase, so seeing your fresh and awesome reaction was a good reminder that the movies are mainly a good time no matter when/how you see them the first time. :-)
Yeah I will check out differences but enjoyable either way :)
I’ve heard the theory that he won’t rerelease the original cuts because he would have to pay royalties to his ex-wife. Her name is removed as editor on the new versions since they were technically re-edited.
Agreed, the reactions to the changes can be quite overblown. There's good ones and bad ones, for example, I really like the hangar full of stormtroopers in ANH when Han was chasing a few down the corridor, and subbing in McDiarmid's Emperor instead of the original monkey-face in ESB. The only one I really can't bring myself to accept is Vader's NOOOOOO before throwing the Emperor into the shaft, Vader's silent struggle turned to determination made that scene for me and I can't help but cringe every time it comes up in rewatches.
@Silentroom Yes, originally it was silent. IIRC, the NOOOO was added in the Bluray re-release, but I'd need to check to be sure.
@@m00nchile1 I really like that they converted the hallway panels in Cloud City into windows. I think part of the pushback against the changes is that the 90s cgi is a harsh contrast to the 70s production values of the rest of the movies. It’s like digitally inserting Man of Steel effects into Christopher Reeve Superman.
You laughing at Bib Fortuna (Jabba's butler) is the best thing that ever happened
In both Legends and Canon, Boba survived being swallowed by the Sarlacc; in Legends, he manages to keep his armor, to boot. He was just _that_ badass.
Jabba's Palace bit is a blast. As a kid I had the trilogy on VHS and would just repeatedly re-watch the first 30 minutes of Return of the Jedi 😄
I was a kid when these came out. I was in elementary school. The excitement of these movies as a kid and the toys! The merchandise! I remember buying Princess Leia Kleenex when Empire came out. The trading cards with the gum were huge too. At every turn there was Star Wars stuff. It was a amazing time as a kid.
so much about these movies were firsts. the toys associated with these movies just never had existed before and EVERYONE had to have them. 100s of millions of dollars in toys
So excited for this one! 😊
This movie ties with "Empire Strikes Back' as my favorite in the entire "Star Wars" saga.
I would have to say that my top 3 in order are
1) revenge of the sith
2) empire strikes back
3) the return of the Jedi
Hope you enjoyed the video Randee!
There is an urban legend, seemingly verified by Peter Mayhew (who played Chewbacca), that Mayhew was warned not to wander off the set while they were filming the Endor sequence, in case hunters mistook him for a bear or even Bigfoot. By the way, you were watching the version that was re-edited after the prequel trilogy was made. Originally, the Anakin force ghost was played by Sebastian Shaw, who was the actor unmasked by Luke. This version edited in Hayden Christiansen, who played the adult Anakin in the prequel trilogy. Personally, i wish they had left it alone, but you can see the original version on the old VHS tapes.

The throne room duel is perfectly mirrored in Revenge of the Sith. Same choice presented, but a different decision.
17:57 That day, the Emperor was amazed to discover that when Vader was saying "As you wish," what he meant was, "I love you."
Oh, yeah. Boba Fett the bounty hunter made a huge impression on audiences. He premiered in the Star Wars Holiday Special (if you can make it all the way through that piece of wampa poodoo in one sitting, you're a better man than I) in a cartoon with Luke, and after his role in Ep. V, his action figure quickly became the most sought-after of all the new side-characters -- except maybe Yoda, if you count him as one. He and his highly unusual ship, the "Slave-1" became very hot Christmas toy items. I hear there's been hubbub at Disney, about changing his embarrassing and potentially triggering ship's name to something less inflammatory. The "Lower Middle Class Employee-1," perhaps.
I think they are just calling it The Firespray now, as that was the classification of Slave 1's production model.
@@LordVolkov LOL "Firespray" is less inflammatory! I love it!

What a great journey it has been to follow you through the best trilogy of cinematic history. I cry every time Vader dies. It reminds me of my own father. He is still a "sith" and might die one.
Hi Seb,
So happy you finished the original (though touched up) trilogy.
As a kid in Southern Africa that had no clue or knowledge of this special series, my sister rented the three movies when I was sick from school. I fell completely and utterly in love ♥️.
My favourite was always Return of The Jedi. I know Empire Strikes Back is critically acclaimed but the conclusion was always special to me.
I have teared up EVERY time they have their epic showdown, that music is ultra haunting and special. I tear up every time when Anakin dies and I tear up every time the force ghosts appear at the very end (again with great music though the original song was also good in the original trilogy)
The clone wars series made me appreciate and love Anakin a lot.
Anyway your awesome reactions were special and reminded me of when I watched it as a kid. Thank you 🥰♥️.
You have an amazing story, I’m glad Star Wars touched your heart as a kid as it did mine
I'm still blown away by the special fx, I mean for its time it's still pretty amazing..... And they showed young Anikan because thats what he looked like when he "died" and went to the dark side

I've wanted to message you for a while now, since watching many of your reaction videos, which EVERYONE seems to be doing lately, but I've really loved seeing someone with an innate intuitiveness and sincere joy about movies. I think you're definitely one of the best! I was lucky to have been able to have seen many classic franchises like the original Star Wars films in the theater when originally released when audiences still clapped after great scenes were shown. I remember crying during E.T. the extra terrestrial so much that even to this day it's hard to watch, so seeing you get so emotional over Dobby's death really touched me. Excellent reaction, glad to see you enjoying the saga so far. I hope you enjoy the prequels just as much. I know they can sometimes have pacing issues and cringey dialogue, but they do so much to expand the universe and story and watching anakins rise all while knowing the outcome is truly beautiful and tragic. Plus the duels are unmatched. And then, if you get into the animated stuff, clone wars, rebels etc, which I highly recommend, the prequel era becomes that much richer.
Anyway, good stuff, looking forward to more

Return Of The Jedi was always my favorite film, my dad's favorite was Empire Strikes Back, and my Mum was partial to A New Hope, such great memories.
If I could have 1 thing from the Star Wars universe, it would be a speeder bike...and lots of fuel for it.
One fact about Ian McDiarmid who played the Emporer, when he filmed this he was only 38-39. It was down to makeup that made him look old.
I've deliberately been avoiding anything to do with Return of the Jedi - simply because my heart cannot handle it anymore.
I grew up with these films and have watched them a million times, but it wasn't until watching the TV show Clone wars that everything hits different now.
I'm so glad that you felt saddness at the loss of Vader - you're a good a judge of character.
For me, watching Luke burn Vader's body alone on Endor is so heartbreaking, it really hits home just how alone Luke really is and how isolating his relationship with Vader makes him.
The first thing people usually think during the Leia Skywalker reveal:
They kissed wtf
But yeah the reveal wasn't planned during the filming of Empire just like Vader being Luke's father wasn't planned in A New Hope.
Allegedly, convinced he would neither have the funding nor the imagination to explore a later film where Luke searched and found his sister, George Lucas instead made Leia the sister simply to tie up the hanging plot thread.
Now that you’ve seen leia in the bikini, you should check out Carrie Fischer’s standup and one woman shows. She talks about how being in everyone’s spank bank for 40 years effected her.
Haha sounds pretty funny I will check it out
@@SebScreen George Lucas said “there’s no underwear in space” so she had to just wear the bikini, she got really annoyed because the other actors in later films got to wear pants.
my fave tidbit from this film is that (Apparently) the Emperor's throne was supposed to swivel around with some mechanism or other, but for some reason it failed so the actor had to shuffle his feet under his robes to turn the chair. XD now i can't stop picturing the emperors twirling in his chair
Such a great reaction! Had to come back and watch again. Seems like it's becoming a part of you. That's just cool. Cannot wait to see you watch the prequels. Don't let anyone tell you they're not great. Coz they are. (And I saw the 1st movie as a kid in theaters)
I loved your impression of the Emperor! 😂😁
Grew up watching these - it's always nice for nostalgia's sake to watch someone watching for the first time
Thats awesome! Love nostalgia films
If you think Vaders death scene is sad it is even more sadder after you watch the prequels as you have a lot of context to what Anakin is like before he turns and if you want more context check out the recently finished Obi Wan Kenobi series which is set about10 years after after Revenge of the Sith there are so many great and emotional scenes in this , Vader is a truly terrifying and tragic character in it
Sebs reactions to the diffrent Alien languages is too perfect lmao
Hahaha you know some people hate that I laugh but atleast you get it lol
Wickett, the Ewok that finds Leia, is played by Warwick Davis when he was a young child. He was also in the Harry Potter movies.
Since good Jedi become force ghosts that is anakin younger before he turned to the dark side and became darth Vader and its a really nice moment. It was edited from the original to include the actor who plays anakin in the prequels as before they had a different actor
This scene suffers greatly from expanded lore and unnecessary edits. Before the prequels it was implied that Jedi became force ghost ms after death. The prequels indicate that Qui-Gon discovered this power and that it is a learned skill. Thus it makes no sense that Anakin can do it, and even less sense that Anakin appears “young.” Oh well, best just to overlook it I think.
@@stt5v2002 i think he’s meant to be young because that’s him as a good Jedi as the sith don’t become force ghosts so i guess that’s why but yeah there’s a lot of flaws just gotta overlook it
LOL the confusion with Hayden Christensen at the end xD We all feel the same, Seb. Sebastian Shaw was done dirty.
The absolute worst change made by the Special Editions (even more than Han shot first, IMHO).
You are very special. Enjoy seeing you watch films I saw when they were first released in the cinema. Imagine having to wait YEARS between each one. That was torture! LOL! 😜
Vader's redemption is a credit to this film series. It's not like most arcs of this type where we get to know the villain, he's humanized and we spend a good bit of time wanting him to turn good because we know they can be good (look at ATLA to see what I'm talking about). Vader is evil throughout the whole way through, only Luke believes he's good (not from stories about him but from faith in what he feels to be true), and it's only through Luke's action and dialogue that Vader is humanized in a few short lines before his turn. In any other movie this would be lazy writing, but the fact that this very black and white story about good and evil ends with us feeling sad at Vader's funeral is amazing
Fun fact - the Rancor was actually a puppet. So... yeah.
And 31:36 - that's not Vader, that's how Anakin looked before he became Vader.
I hope you'll give the prequels a viewing as well. For all their flaws and cringy lines, they have some amazing moments and great music scores.
So the ghost Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker at the end was not in the original release. They actually used the actor you saw when Luke removed the mask, Sebastian Shaw (David Prowse was the actor normally in the costume with fencer, Bob Anderson stepping in for some of the saber duels - The voice in the originals was always James Earl Jones, and every voice actor after him having to imitate his classic Darth Vader voice). After the prequels came out, the original was updated to remove Sebastian Shaw and replace him with Hayden Christensen, who played adult Anakin in the prequels.
3:41 Long live the GONK droids! GONK!
Are we gonna talk about how good his Emperor Palpatine impression is
Haha appreciate that, could be better once I get some practice in the shower LOL

Return of the Jedi is my favorite just the perfect ending and I saw it when it was new in 1983 when I was 10
Ewoks are terrifying they’re actually just pure muscle in a fur coat and they eat storm troopers alive and there’s a battlefront 2 mode where you have to survive a night on endor but they hunt you down and it’s almost impossible to survive as a stormtrooper
The Ewoks actually ate the Stormtroopers afterwards.
Tasty Stromtrooper meat
See all those buttons on the arms of the Emperor's throne? I like to imagine they activate specially built-in features, like automatic shi-atsu massage, or a temperature regulated foot bath, for those really hard days.
the "bears" on the forest moon of Endor are called Ewoks, long time speculation is that they were originally were going to be the same race as Chewbaca{"Chewy"}
I saw all the films on release in the cinema. "Return" I saw on the day of release, at a cinema which showed 4 & 5 first in the afternoon. It was amazing.

I think you’re the only RUclips reactor that loves the Emperor, most of the reactors I’ve seen hated the Emperor. You’ll love him even more in the prequels, he’s the MVP in that trilogy. The prequels is what cemented the Emperor as my favourite Star Wars character.
Loved your reaction to this. You completely understand star wars IMO. The scope and the story of the prequels is epic: you’ll love it 😉
Thanks Top dog! Im super excited for prequels
I remember getting a set of Star Wars figures around when this came out (for my birthday I think). It always makes me smile when I think about that because there was a big bulge in the box where the big fat Gammorean Guard was:):)
I can never decide if episode 5 or 6 is my favorite. I think 5 because the good guys are on the ropes in the end, builds the next movie up.
@11:35 - I like to imagine one of the stormtroopers or officers turning to the person next to them when they hear that laugh and say "Are we the bad guys???"
Also, I love the Royal Guards too. I want a costume of them for cosplay - there's also a black variant with a red visor. They carry lightsaber staffs.
As always, an awesome reaction! I had a great time watching this. Looking forward to your next reaction. Ah, and since you've completed the original trilogy, I hope you will find the time to watch/react to "Star Wars SC 38 Reimagined". It is youtube "fan-made" duel between Vader and Obi. It is amazing.
If you remember, at the end of Episode V Luke is able to reach out through the Force when he's hanging from the bottom of Cloud City after Vader cut off his hand and contact Leia and she made them go back and pick him up. If Leia wasn't strong with the Force she wouldn't have been able to pick up on his message. At this point Leia is like Luke at the start of the first movie and doesn't know how to consciously use the Force and when she uses it on instinct it just seems to her and everybody else like she's really good at some stuff and/or really lucky, just like Luke was already a great pilot and a good shot even before Obi-Wan taught him the basic Jedi techniques.

Just so you know, Leia's outfit was meant to remind people of the Dejah Thoris character from John Carpenter of Mars. This movie came out in 1980, so there would have been plenty of people in the audience with fond memories of reading that as children.
The actor playing the main Ewok who befriends Leia was a child little person at the time. He went on to play The title role in Willow.
The older soldier on Han's team was retconned to be the last of the clones.
I like to think that when the emperor told Luke “Your anger has made you powerful.” Luke thought about it thought “Yeah… it kind of has. Maybe I can use some of that without becoming a complete asshole… like you!” And on that day Luke became a Jedi Version 2.0

Your very welcome Vesuvi! Appreciate your kind words
My pleasure, Seb! 😊
The ghost Vader was added when they remade the movies. He wasn't in the original, since they hadn't cast Anakin yet.
Been watching the original Star Wars movies since I was 6 years old and I'm 40 now. Absolutely love these movies. If you want the backstory on Anakin Skywalker/ Vader you definitely need to watch the prequels and don't forget to watch Star Wars: Rogue One, it leads into Star Wars: A New Hope. Loved your reactions to my favorite movies of all time.
Wicket: *pokes Leia*
Seb: What is THAT?!?
Me: Professor Flitwick... and Griphook... and Willow.
- Luke came back to his senses because he noticed that his father had a robotic arm just like he do. He realised he was becoming just like his dad. That's why he stopped fighting.
- About Vader's death, he died because his suit was keeping him alive, and was actually weak to electricity. A normal person would have survived to that, but as Obi-Wan said, he was more machine than human.
- This third ghost was the Anakin who died to Vader. It would have been strange to me to see an old version, when we know everything he did as Vader... Not only in the movies but also in the books. Vader did horrible things. That's why it makes sense to me that his Force Ghost appearance is his former Jedi self.
Duel of the fates is gonna blow this mans mind! Cant wait
"wow lightening, I think he kept that one under his sleeve'. he's hiding a lot more under that sleeve lol
someone made a fan art of Anakin Skywalker, after he came back from being Darth Vader (if he had survived) and became a Jedi once more. he was dressed like a Jedi, with a breath mask that only covered the lower part of his face. it looked awesome!
