Scary Movie 2 is definitely one of those 'you had to be there' because the references are all over the place. The first one makes it easier to follow and catch most things since you only really need to know the Scream and I Know franchises.
I’m of the belief that the third is the best, and I’ll happily take that L. I usually prefer the Rated R versions of raunchy comedies, and SM3 is an exception
The Scary Movie's are a product of their time, so there's a lot of jokes you won't get, unless you were around during those times. The basketball scene is a perfect example of that.
There’s a lot of references to non horror movies. For example: When Cindy was “assisting” buddy, the speech she was making was what Jack from Titanic was saying to Rosé, the 3 girls fighting the Handy man was basically Charlie’s Angels, and etc. But yea, so many from the 2000’s. Great reaction!! Continue to 3…. It gets really out there

Movies that are referenced: The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror, Save the Last Dance, Dude Where's My Car, The Haunting (1999), Poltergeist 2: The Other Side, The Basketball was a Nike commercial from 2001, The Entity (1982, involves Ghost [Grape]), Rocky, Poltergeist 1, What Lies Beneath, House on Haunted Hill (1999), Hollow Man, Calista Flockhart is from the show Alley McBeal and she was featured in the papers for being un-heathy thin, worse than what was called "heroin chic", Fast and Furious, also Firestone was facing a giant lawsuit for hundreds of people dieing while driving with faulty tires that they tried to keep covered up, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Charlie's Angels, The Matrix, Twister, The ghost actor is the great Richard Moll, and Chris Elliot (played Handy) is hilarious. You need to see his film Cabin Boy.
This film parodies many classics like The Exorcist, The Haunting, Poltergeist, and The Amityville Horror. But also some at that time current ones like Hollow Man. I think you might recognize the entries in the 3rd film better, which makes it funnier, and it is not this gross iirc. So go ahead and watch the 3rd! :D

I hope He reacts soon to Scary Movie 3+4 i really love them. Scary Movie 3 is my Favorite one with Charlie Sheen and Leslie Nielsen (the Legend of Comedy)😂
The second film is actually WAY better than the first but it helps to know the references being used throughout the film and Scary Movie 2 uses multiple references while the first film basically ripped off 2 films and threw In jokes.
Calista Flockhart well known actress of the 90s and early 2000s. She’s been in a relationship with Harrison Ford for years. She is most prominently known for starring in the show Alley Mcbeal. The joke is in regards to her skinny figure.
I remember watching this at the movies, when that basketball bounced down with the sound fx, me, the boys and a lot of the audience started laughing hard. Still gets me
The mother who was singing at the beginning of the movie is Veronica Cartwright, she was in the movie Alien with Sigourney Weaver and she is the sister of Angela Cartwright who played as Penny Robinson in the original 1960s series Lost In Space and Angela was 1 of the children in the movie The Sound Of Music
This movie references so many movies and tv commercials, even if it’s just for a few seconds. A lot that probably weren’t very popular outside the U.S. so if you’re not familiar with much of it the whole film will fall flat.
Seb, I don't know how old you are but you might be 20 years past this movies target audience. I think the problem is he hasn't seen a lot of the films they were referencing. He didn't even get the Exorcist references at the start of the film for God's sake. A spoof film doesn’t have to make sense that’s why it’s a spoof film. Don’t take them too seriously or expect them not to be stupid. Knowing the references and also being in that time that it came out would have made it much more enjoyable for you. Cool reaction though 💜
one of my fave references in this is the "your wife" and her face changing to the wayans' one lol. That scene in What Lies Beneath had traumatized me the first time I saw it, so they fixed the fear haha. Also the Charlie's Angels fight and music is so stupid but fun lol
Oh yeah this is one of my favorites the first two scary movies bring back so many memories and middle school because they were quoted so much I remember the cameltoe thing was such a big deal
There are so many references you missed: The Exorcist, Little Shop of Horrors, Charlies Angels II, The basketball thing was from some annoying commercial at the time that just went on and on, I think there's even a little of Wizard of Oz in it.
There's A LOT of references in this film that if you aren't up on US culture or were alive at the time you wouldn't really understand. Unfortunately this film was the result of a movie studio seeing dollar signs after the success of the first film that no one at the studio really expected to be as big of a hit as it was. The studio also ended up screwing the Wayans on the 3rd film and as a result they are no longer a part of these films and they all take a dip in humor (aside from one off moments) drastically. Some of the references in this film that you may or may not have gotten: - The part with the tattoos that read "Ray, Fucked Me" is a reference to the film "Dude, Where's My Car?" which, much like the first Scary Movie, wasn't expected to be as successful as it was but was probably one of the most referenced films of the early 2000's. - The couple that split the pole who got hit by the car was a reference to the first Final Destination movie. - The white (cum by the way) stain on the blue dress when Cindy is looking in the wardrobe of her room was a reference to the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky sex scandal, the infamous line from Bill "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." - The long basketball part in the dark was a reference to an old Nike advertisement where they had a group of people (like Stomp) making a beat with the basketball dribbling the same way in the film. In fact the audio is lifted directly from the commercial and these actors are just dribbling and doing whacky stuff. Lol - The part where the Florida Ballots were found in the ash of the fire place was a reference to the 2000 election between George Bush and Al Gore where Al Gore, who was favored to win, lost and one of the things that was controversial was that the Florida voting ballets were "lost". (This is an extremely lazy explanation of those events, there's a lot more to it than just that). - The part where the ghost and the wheelchair guy are battling on the wheelchairs is a reference to the film Biker Boyz. - Also, the tire spinning and being torn to shreds and showing the "Firestone" logo was a reference to the tire manufacturer Firestone having a bunch of defective tires sold that would randomly blow out when traveling at highway speeds and having a massive recall. There's A LOT more references than that, I just can't think of them right now, but these are the ones I remember the most.
I’d definitely keep watching the franchise, at least all the way to the 4th film. At least with those you still have the same characters. After the 5th one they changed up the cast and it didn’t help the film.
Hi seb! there's a horror movie that I think you'll like 😊 idk if you reacted to it and haven't posted it but it's called "Smile" it's kinda like truth or dare 🙂

I got this burnt in a CD back then in 2003 but no subtitles, so I just watched it skipping some parts and didn't get most of the references but now it's a bit gross and uncomfortable to watch. The third is the best definitely, good jokes, good pace and the atmosphere around The Ring was on point.

You're not going to get them unless you heard about it. Like the Firestone scene at 17:11, it both a reference to fast & furious and the firestone issue in NASCAR, where for a year Firestone tires just kept crashing drivers for over a year. Another one, the basketball scene 7:58 is based of a Nike NBA commercial, almost scene for scene ruclips.net/video/SRKg7gsz7gY/видео.html. Almost every scene has a reference to something else.
