This was a driver who unfortunately never really had a car (The Williams cars in 1989 and 1990 were good, but not fantastic cars like McLaren and Ferrari) to suit his talent... he had tremendous talent! he outpaced Berger in 1985 in Arrows and till this day, I wonder why Berger got the Benetton drive in 1986 instead of him.. He outpaced Nannini at Benetton and he also outpace Patrese in Williams... and who could forget the masterful drive at the Hungarian GP in 1990 when he managed to hold off the Great Ayrton Senna? Now, how many drivers can do that? He is also a wet weather master, imo, to be able to win at the 1989 Australian GP in the fashion that he did... that victory is reminiscent of Ayrton's 1985 Portuguese GP win and Schumacher's 1996 Spanish GP win. Boutsen is up there, in my opinion, with the very best
James Tan Berger was tremendous too and was the only guy to win against the McLaren juggarnaut in 88. Boutsen was my 4th favourite driver as a kid...Berger 2nd.
Boutsen died right?
@@tundetheepic8631 no, he's still healthy and alive.
I think Berger got the Benetton drive in 1986 because of BMW but I agree with you Boutsen was very talented.
this comment made me smile knowing people have seen deeper than just results in my dad :)
boutsen benetton those were the days!
'83-'93 was a period of great drivers; senna, mansell, prost, piquet, patrese, berger, alboreto, nannini...it would never be the same again
I was so happy when he got his first win. And that drive at the Hungaroring against Senna was so spectacular.
Very nice and polite man, he signed an autograph for me a few years ago.
Yes Thierry did the drive of his life at Hungaroring 1990 when he took pole and held Ayrton Senna's McLaren behind him. Thierry's greatest moment.
Nive video compilation there. Thierry's win at a very, very wet Adelaide in 1989 was a fine piece of F1 driving, right up there with the best of them.
One of the most underrated drivers in F1.
Thanks for the memories, Champ.🏁
one of the best wet track drivers of all time.
What a superb tribute. Thank you very much for posting it! (And yes, I see that it was posted nearly ten years ago, lol. Good thing there's no expiration date on videos, so people can find them many years later.)
He was my favourite driver at that time. :)
he’s my favourite driver of all time
I met Thierry in Adelaide 92. Such a gentleman, and a hot wife too!!!
viva boutsen ici 2021
This is a best Belgian driver ever.
Very nice tribute... F1 good times.
Wow! Great video! By the way Thierry was one of my favourite drivers in the 90's.
Great driver, i was a fan when I was a kid:)
very nice
Very nice tribute!
best Rider on the Planet
I saw him busking outside Brussels train station in 2009.
Cold man lol
From Spa to Monte Carlo where Boutsen looks like Ken Barlow! Great haircut. Great driver
I was sad when he seemed to just disappear from F1. I have his helmet design from Minichamps and on GT7 lol.
very nice video for a great driver
yes, it will never be the same
Cool driver.
He was superb in 1988 outdriving in his non-turbo lots of turbo drivers, held off Senna in Hungaroring'90.
He could also won a few more races in 1990 had his Williams been more reliable.
... and then disappeared in early 90s((((
Man who is at the top too soon when it comes to the end, it was the running of Boutsen.
Best driver we belgians ever had. I Will never forget those epic races hè won in inferior cars. If he had the cars like Senna prost had im sure hè would have competed for WC
Sad he had to make way for another driver at Williams after finetuning the car to a winning combination.
yes the maybe 92 champ..the euro piquet
yesss he made a really really good car literally almost all by himself for the next season, and then he got sacked because the other driver had more “experience”
@tsubasamkds Pirro was told to hold up Boutsen because Nannini was closing on him. It was terribly obvious and today it would have earned Pirro a penalty.
I'm Boutsen on F1 2011 btw :)
wooooo :)))
amazing skills at 2:14 and 2.34 ,many would loose it there.
he was good f1 driver
L'unico a tenere il passo delle imbattibili Mclaren nel 1988 !!! Dopo Senna il miglior corridore sotto la pioggia in quegli anni. Sfortunato a capitare in Williams negli anni peggiori della scuderia inglese.
What's the name of the song?
Michael De Geest Children (1996) by Robert Miles (RIP) - one of the greatest techno beat tunes of all times
