I had cloches and didn't use them. It seemed so warm in February and March, even April, but I should've used them. As a result many seeds didn't some up and had to be resown, or birds got the seedlings just emerged. Struggling, they finally took off with temps in the 90s the last week of May. I don't know what I was thinking, but was not about cloches! Your garden, however, is looking remarkable and ahead of schedule because of your cloches! Regards, in zone 9 in far north California
I'm transitioning to mini beds this yr. Been following you since around 2006 and have received so many great ideas from your content. Here's to many more years of great garden and life advice!
Nice way to reuse materials you have available to help with gardening. The use of cloches goes a long way back. In the Victorian era sometimes they'd use glass domes. I have to wonder with all these sidewalls you have, where did the rest of the tires go? My gut says a previous minibed experiment, maybe the prototype?
Those cloches are very cool! I like your tidy garden and your ingenious ideas. You might be interested in a channel from Latvia called Baltic Homesteaders. He has some ingenious ideas as well.

I'll check it out. Thank you.
I'm curious what type of plastic is covering your soil that you have the circle cut out of for the plant?
