Asterisk really isn't much of a thing outside of mainland Europe. Totally understandable that an American wouldn't recognise the characters. Even here in the UK the vast majority of people wouldnt know asterix. I'm 37 and do have some memory of the characters in small magazine comics as a kid but asterix really is not a thing here any more and hasn't been for a very long time.
Asterix and Obelix comic books are a huge deal in Europe. They have been translated into dozens of languages and sold millions of them. There are also multiple movies, both animated and live action. Every kid over here knows them
@@thefactsarethese3668 Also because (like the smurfs that somehow did get popular) Asterix and Obelix is kinda promoting socialism over capitalism. Oh dear, "Thor's Brother" and "Giant Man who's butt you can ride" are Asterix and Obelix, the heroes of that park and of course the comic books. It is by far the most well known comic series of European origin.

This is a must-visit-park when you're in Europe. Zeus backwards is awesome, Toutatis is a great addition and they've got one of the best inverts in the world. This is an awesome park, one of the best operations in Europe. They try to help you when you do not speak French (although it is a bit rough on the edges) . On a busy day, you need a skip the line pass. Despite the awesome operations, they are that good.
@@josephqualtier961 Because It's worldwide known? Or because you take a loot at where you going? Checking the theming of the Park, etc. Don't you guys do that?
Hey Taylor and Sarah, don't feel bad about not knowing who Astérix and Obélix are. As a European, not familiar with Dr Seuss, I have the same experience when I visit Islands of Adventure. To me the Cat in the Hat or Thing 1 and Thing 2 are completely meaningless. However, the comic book character Astérix is so big here, that it would be on the same level as a European telling an American that he never heard of Marvel or DC characters. You get the idea :-). When it comes to the park, Parc Astérix is so cleverly done that knowing the characters and the general storyline will really elevate the experience you have in this park. But be aware, knowing French (preferably with the correct accent... sigh) is also a big part of understanding the sense of humour in this park. If you want, I would be glad to show you around and point things out when you are visiting again to experience Toutatis (pronounced Tutatis (with the 'a' sounding like the 'a' in the word 'father')). It is the name of the most powerful Celtic God, and he is worshipped by Astérix in the comics. By the way, if you are looking for something special for your next trip, I can highly recommend the onsite themed hotel 'La Cité Suspendue'. Like staying in Game of Thrones setting. Anyway, great video! I followed the entire 'Coastin' Thru Europe' series and loved it! Thanks for a great time!
The dog is the dog of Obelix, the partner in crime of Asterix. You should read the comics or watch the movies to see what this whole park is build around.
I had never heard of that park, definitely looks like a little gem! The theming is pretty cool. I never realized Asterix was not a well-known comic strip/movie in the rest of North America. It's a classic in Quebec, with most of the Asterix animated movies being TV staples during the holiday season.
It’s amazing how different Taylor and Sarah’s opinions of Tonnair 2 Zeus are compared to Shauns from TPW. Just goes to show how different people have completely contrasting opinions. Love the series you guys!
Park Asterix has been on my bucket list for a while. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in high school Latin I learned about the comic, then very soon after theme park me discovered the actual park. The place looks awesome with all its theming and integration-with a handful of interesting looking coasters to boot. Especially interested in OzIris since Montu is one of my favorite inverts…
Oh my God! So many things to point this time! First of all, VERY GLAD YOU ENJOYED THIS JEWEL!!! So many people pass by this park because Disney is just there, but everything in this park is awesome. Theming is very cool, ride selection is great (and being improved since the last 10 years), and it is not as crowded as Disney. Tonerre du Zeus was the best european wooden coaster for many years, till Troy was built. So, with the reprofile and new trains (That is why it is called Tonerre 2 Zeus), it is once again a hard contender for the title. Oh! And 2 in french is read like "du", wich also means "of", so it is a word game in its name ;) Goudurix was ranked the worst roller coaster worldwide for several years, and has a VERY bad reputation. Few years ago they retracked some parts and changed the trains, but nothing seemed to work really well... So there it is, still one of the worst coasters of the world. Oz'Iris... I place it under Montu on my rankings. Some people say I am crazy, but today I feel a little relief. For me, they are pretty similar, but Montu, because has bigger elements, has a little bit of pacing bettween forces. Here everything is more smaller and hits you much quicker. That continous intensity, mixed with its awesome theming (even queue) makes a whole better ride. The new intamin is called Toutatis, wich is a Celtic god. In the Asterix world it is an important character, and they use their name as an expresion of sourprise (Per Toutatis!). Missedoportunity for this park ;) Save it for the next visit!!! Vol d'Icare (the not-bobsled but with bobsled double cars) was a coaster built on 1994 (it was the fourth coaster, being Goudurix and another Zierer the firsts). The Trace de Hourra, wich is the Mack bobsled, was built in 2001. That is why it looks so odd and out-of-place. However, it is a great filler, and a great step-coaster for little children. You are afraid of Pegasse? Well, we have this one just right next to it. And finally, I recommend you to read a comic or watch a movie of Asterix & Obelix. You will have a good time, and also will understand MANY things you did not when visited the park. If you come back (you will when they open that top5 Intamin ;P ) you will hit this park with a very different approach. Theming, names, characters, historytelling... Everything will have a new and different meaning for you, and will appreciate this park VERY much. Last, but not least, thank you Tayler and Sarah. Has been a pleasure to follow your adventures through Europe ^^
For tonner 2 Zeus, gravity group did retrack all of the ride. BUT. They didn’t do it all at once. The smooth parts of the rides are the more recent retrack, the other parts were retracked a year and two years before the last retrack. The thing is… even if they did retrack 2/3 of the ride… the park still used the old trains on it. The trains were super heavy so the new parts ended up being pretty rough even if they were new. The new trains came with the last and final retrack. I think the park choose to do that so they didn’t have to close the ride since it’s one of the most popular in the park. But it’s just a guess from me. So yeah… it’s a full retrack…. But it doesn’t feel like it. Park Astérix is my home park so I had the chance to ride tonner 2 zeus before, during and after all the retracks and even if the ride was good before… i think it’s now a great one ! I would have prefered if they retrack all of it in one go, and reopened it immediately with the new trains, but oh well. I’m fine with it ! Anyway, I love your videos, and I’m so happy to see you go at Park Astérix ! I love roller coaster, but roller coaster lovers (who also are RUclipsr) are quite rare in France, so it feels kinda nice to know that the parc is beginning to attract the attention of coaster enthusiasts ! And it’s probably all thanks to Toutatis 😂 I hope you’ll do a review video of Toutatis when it opens in 2023 !
21:22 Some older rides from that era had the ability to have multiple trains on a lift hill simultaneously thanks to most coaster trains being lighter back then. I've heard that was the case with some old Aarow loopers and hypers. On rare occasions, certain old block zones were programmed to allow 2 trains in them as long as they were in continuous motion. Some Mack bobsleds may still have that same old school quirk.
As a train can‘t go backwards on the lifthill you can stack as many trains on there as the chain can carry. If the next block zone is not free the lifthill just stops before a train enters the main coaster track 🤷🏻♂️
Lmao the croissant debacle reminds me of the Glove World episode from SpongeBob when he’s trying to get a bus ticket to get back home from the trench 😂
I've loved this series! And a great way to end out this European leg. Oz Iris is a bucket list coaster for me, but I really want to get on Zeus too now I've seen this. Looking forward to the final park (I know the one) on this trip, and the Scandinavian leg after that.
Great video! This park is so interesting! It's funny the comments on here with everyone saying how you all didn't recognize the characters in the park like on park merchandise. But I mean it's ok to just go to the park and enjoy it for what it is without knowing. I still thought the characters were cool and different just like you all did. It's still a very interesting park!
Thank you so much.. I loved this series. While it is so funny and entertaining to watch, it also gave me (i.e. being from western Europe and visiting theme parks like twice a year) a great idea of which parks I should visit. Very well done - I hope you had a great time in Europe !
As someone who has watched many of his videos, I can tell you that either the block section is short enough that the train cresting the lift will complete the block zone before the train leaving the station crests the lift, the coasters operations are similar to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in that it relies on continuous motion of the trains to enable a train to leave the station before they crest the lift, or both.
Hey Taylor and Sarah, I know you guys might not have grown around the awesomeness of Asterix and Obelix but I highly recommend you check the comic books out. They are a witty, fun and actually intellectual comic book that bring history and fantasy together. I highly recommend checking them out and taking a read!!
Yeaaah Goudurix is pretty rough, but it's a very old ride (and i think one of the first "real" coasters in France too), and it was the first Vekoma coaster to be netierly made with computers, so i guess they didn't really master this way of making their products at that time... Anyway, this park is super good, too underrated IMO!
Actually I believe gravity group retracked almost the entirety of tonnerre 2 Zeus. However they did it in like 3 or 4 years only during the off season to avoid having to close the attraction one full year. And the problem with that is they continued to run the old trains on the new track each year until this year which damaged the track really fast bc the old trains weren’t suitable for the new track… Quite a shame actually
Thank you so much for this amazing video ! Parc Astérix is my home park, and the lack of ride merchandising is one of its main downsides, just like Disneyland Paris ! I swear park culture isn't important enough in France to sell ride merch instead of generic IP stuff. It really contrasts with La Ronde, where I even found SLC souvenirs 😂

Love Parc Asterix definitely the best Compagnie des Alpes park out of the ones I have been to love OzIris and hopefully I will be there for Toutatis opening day, need to get a reride on tonnerre 2 zeus as whilst I did enjoy the ride very much it was hindered as I had back pain from slipping over in my hotel bathroom
I have really enjoyed this series but parts of this one cracked me up. Taylor complained in a recent video that a ride in the Avengers section of Disney was lame and lazily themed as it didn't follow the timeline of the movies and characters of the Avengers. And then at this park he couldn't identify Asterix the comic book character the park is named after even though the comics have sold over 350 million copies worldwide not including TV shows, movies and games. Overall it has been great to watch this trip through Europe and it's very sad to see it end. Where to next I wonder.....?
Im so sad you didnt recognise Asterix and Obelix, they are literally the Characters from the Comic which the whole park is themed around
It was ridiculous, " uh is that thors brother" asterix it's literally the parks mascot. really upsetting but glad you guys enjoyed the park though.

How do you not know asterix! One of the Most popular comics ever

it's not over yet
The madhouse is a Mack Rides clone, not a Vekoma.
Just wondering are y'all going to Busch gardens Williams burg Christmas town this year?
21:21 like if you want ETR to explain THAT! :D
U guys should 100% add on ur trip to Norway, Sweden, and Finland on to this after u finish it off with La Ronde. Great video guys! 🎢
They did visit Finland in I think October
You gotta do toutatis, it's worth the trip
Kwah-saun. Yup 😄
Great video!!!
You didn't do the water attractions ? They are very cool
You guys definetly need to at least binge-watch the asterix movies on your next flight to europe :D
This is the second flying Bar I’ve seen, the other one is in the Parc du petit Prince in Ungersheim / Alsace - 68 / France 🇫🇷
For your next trip : make sure you know if there is a backstory for the Parc you plan to visit…
How was her Pizza quatre fromages ?
There is also another one at Futuroscope, also in France
Love Parc Asterix definitely the best Compagnie des Alpes park out of the ones I have been to love OzIris and hopefully I will be there for Toutatis opening day, need to get a reride on tonnerre 2 zeus as whilst I did enjoy the ride very much it was hindered as I had back pain from slipping over in my hotel bathroom
18:41 that's not an immelman, it curves up into it then dives down so its a dive loop.
Imma have to get a ride on french Montu one day. I love the one here in the US, so I'm sure that one slaps just as hard.
I totally agree.
Lessssssss gooooooooooooo!!!
3:02 This happened to me when I tried to buy a nail clipper in Strasbourg. Apparently french people freaking love their accent.
I’m American and heard bout asterix but haven’t heard of obelix
Nice
North America needs to take notes and theme their roller coasters 100 precent better walking through the legs Amazing!
“This park is not well connected to the transit system”
Literally almost every park in the US be like lmao
I’ve always wanted to go to europe
Go to Gardaland guys!!
