"A super LP by a severely overlooked '60s Toronto group. Each player has a larger than life musical personality. Skip Prokop's skittering, slashing drums, Dennis Gerrard's McCartney-on-speed runs, Chuck Beal's swirling echo-laden leads and Adam Mitchells warm vocal tone and choppy rhythm create an intensely surreal atmosphere. Appreciation for this record will assuredly come around."

I'm 72 now. I was 16 on Victoria Day of 1968 when I first dropped acid. We hitch hiked to Belleville for a Paupers concert. I was blown away to put it mildly.
As a nostalgic icon of those days, this LP tops my list.
Hi sweetheart. I’m also 72 and I also dropped acid about that time. But my connection with the Paupers is because my sister was married to Chuck Beal. She was pregnant with another man’s baby, but my sweet Chuck married her so the kid would have a last name. And I’ve loved him silently ever since.
They played at my high school… a good memory!
Fantastic band. Saved from oblivion.
This band should have gotten more recognition
60's to 80's the Years of the Best Real Rock and Roll in the History of Music! Thanks to All the First Rockers of these times
These first rockers got robbed of well deserved notoriety!
Always happy to hear artists from 60s Verve Folkways/Forecast. Bob Lind, The Hombres, The Appletree Theatre*, Dave Van Ronk, all come to mind.
*'Playback' 1967 LP, a favorite of John Lennon.
and dont forget to add the Street - same - Verve FTS 3057 lp as well as the 4 marvellous Tim Hardin albums............AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA++++++++
Thumbs up for mentioning the “Appletree” album, an excellent yet unknown issue that deserves a greater recognition. A John Lennon favorite , indeed!
The Lonely Rocker digs this kinda music! great stuff!
I saw them several times. They were so much better 'Live' than on their albums! Great memories.
The musicianship, songwriting, arrangements and vocal harmonies - top notch! Although I've certainly heard of the Paupers, this is the first time I've listen to them. What an unexpected treat!
The pre Lighthouse paupers are always a favorite..I found Ellis island and the first Lighthouse lp on rca..loved them ever since!! One fine fine morning
This is wonderful! Where has this album been all my life?
My favorites from this record are, "It's Your Mind" and "Black Thank you Package". Skip Prokop was a great drummer and did session work after the Paupers and then co-formed Lighthouse. Three Dog Night covered his song, "I'd Be so Happy", which is a good tune as well.
Oh wow, this band has a connection to Lighthouse? I prefer this album better, but Lighthouse has some some amazing fantasy album art.
A really neat piece of music history! I didn’t know that! Thanks for sharing
I love this band! I have both of their albums in vinyl. They performed at Monterey pop, but never got much recognition. I agree, they deserved more!
absolutely recommended album to all psych heads..............there's a mono version of this US press, too!!!!! the hunt is open............
Another wonderful album. Thanks
I like the upbeat vibe of 'Simple Deed'(25:02).reminds me of the Monkees. But, fave song has to be 'It's Your Mind' !!!!
Great album! Thank You!
"back in these days rock and roll whether
it was loud or soft the musicians had a
magical touch when they played their
instruments and the great sounds
that came out from them,
from the bands that became superstars
to the bands that barely made it like these
bands on here they knew how to use their
vocals and play the instruments just right,
the 60's,& 70's were the best,the 80's soso,
the 90's nah and the 2000's to present forget it."-🤔🎸📻🌐..
- Check out Fantastic Negrito and Rocco DeLuca and The Burden.
So amazing the awesomely great groups that fall through the proverbial cracks....
This is why i subscribed. Keep it coming brother.

The Rush documentary "Beyond the Lighted Stage" brought me here.

Great record TNX
This is the "Head Music" of the late sixties. The psychedelic drugs mixed with a little eastern influence propelled this sound and listening to it reminds me of days gone by! Good find, kind sir!
Very psychedelic indeed.
oh, there's lots of magic out there if ya can find it man. Chase the sun and it's all there. Good luck n' peace! Luv to all. 2021 will be a release from the black arts of the moronic.
You must be bloody joking! The Darkness will increase now until Jesus returns!
Never been away, Heaven on Earth....did you not find Peace, Sister.🥀
Jesus is already here inside us all! We just have to find him. ♥️
I like the way they use the 12 string guitar on some of the songs.
Trippy!
... 👍 !!
It sure changed sonically when Adam Mitchell joined the band. (See the last 2 tracks from 1965 that were not on the album.)
This was a cool Group....😎
The best thing this band did was inspire two of the greats that became Rush (Lee and Lifeson). Well done, Paupers....well done.
" You and Me" is a truly great sunshine pop number. Could have been a chart hit in the summer of '67. I can imagine it being played on radio, say right after "Windy" by the Association. The Paupers were greater than mere popsters however. A few psychedelic masterpieces on this album as well.
Ty 💎
I want to take a Trip with the Magic People 😈😈😈
☮️😎🤟
Super
LSD for ever
some of it has that 1967 vibe .
Last time I did LSD I listened to this whole album.
Not quite the same without a cloud of Maui Wowie.
Kinda like crankin' the reverb; just a tad....
:) QC
Dif the sounds of 1967 ish
Psychy psychy 😅
Pickering College.
Fantastic band they play at the Monterey pop festival...in June. 16 17 18 ..1967
A cool Canadian band, with two pretty good psychedelic LPs in ‘67-‘68, the other one titled “Ellis Island”. Their material is of a diversity and kind of uneven, but with some brilliant passages! They were relatively more concise in their other (2nd) album, but this one has a more interesting cover- so, both are recommended! Until a few years ago both were relatively easily to be obtained and at an affordable price, so get yourself a copy of each-you will enjoy both of them!
I appreciate Canadian rock-n-roll. PERIOD ! 🇨🇦
Many great big acts and even more great underground bands that never made the big time.
Great obscure garage bands too.
The Paupers. Poor man's psych guaranteed to enrich the minds of psychedelic people.
☮️ Best Dream
Fantastic! A lot of people never knew they played the Monterey Pop Festival (because they weren't in the film).
They were second on the bill, Friday night right after the Association.
Funnily enough, Their drummer Skip Prokop was asked by D.A. Pennebaker (the film maker of the Monterey Pop Festival documentary) in the 1990's if they wanted to be included in the revised film Skip said "bury it." Sad history from one of my favorite Canadian bands. What I wouldn't give to see footage of their ill-fated performance.
A true classic of 1967! And one of the most underrated too ...
Skip Prokop had a way of slipping in tight roll fills - played them so cleanly and tastefully. The Paupers were among a league of groups influential in getting the garage bands of the late 60's to up their game to a new level. So delighted to see them on the bill at Monterey.
If they weren't good I wouldn't be here saying that they were good.
@Happy Joy That they were good.
I love Chuck Beal. Decades ago he married my sister who was pregnant with another man’s baby. He is always in my heart.
Chuck's a good guy,I'm a musician and he was my manager back in the 70's. Bob
They played at Monterey with introduction of David Crosby!
Yeah cool man, I could listen to this one again for sure!
Its almost unbelievable the records people have, while I was living in okolona,( Louisville, KY, )a neighbor had a bedroom ,music room was wall to wall albums floor to ceiling 😳 🤗🖖✌
Better to stream all the records online til you find your favorites and have a nicely special crafted vinyl collection. I'd like to listen to your friends collection in Louisville I bet lol
Saw them live at the Fillmore live in 1966. Great band live.
Thank you very much for all the great music you post!!! I enjoy it ALL !!!
Opa! I got to beat on this one how many arm and legs is it going to cost me now? Chef Mike in Indiana peace
magic acid!!!
GOOD
The singer remember me to Johnny Rivers balads...
Super 60s album by group unknown to me. Thank you for listing.
great album!
Fuzz heavy.
Wish this music was now today's music sucks.
If this was played in Toronto but, not played in Detroit, Cleveland or Buffalo, then this is just another shame. Music should be shared. Yep, this is kind of like a Spoonful meets Blue Cheer
Unlimited music THANK YOU ALL OF UALL who takes time and puts on herefor all to hear🤗
Отлично 1967 плохо 2020 впрочем неплохо Герман
Magic for me and peace.. guess I'm a magic person.
wonderful.
33:50 No one could ever love you truer... (Oh it burns)
Thanks
how big is your collection? incredible!
That's a rather personal question don't you think... Gordon Ramsay has size 15 shoes what are you going to ask him?...
And it's not how big the collection it's what you do with it... Am I right my Greek record tycoon chef Mike and Indiana
How about the Ugly Ducklings? Another great Canadian band from the 60s.
One hell of a collection
This sound good, as it may take a while to get used to it, certainly interesting.
Is some where in there a monkeys album??🤔🤔
"I've heard of several bands between 1965 and 1973
that called themselves the Paupers,
at least 21 from the U.S.,11 from Canada, 22 from the U.K.,
several similarly named bands, this may be one of them,
as usual a great sound."-📻🌐🌍🌎🌏🌐..
54 bands with the same name? I find that hard to believe.
This is the first Paupers i here in my life ,
@@marcotjn so 53 Paupers never made it?
@@calvinwboaz7085 "many bands over the years have used the
same names at one time or another especially back in
the 60's & 70's in fact there was a band here in Oklahoma called
the Paupers later changed there names many times because
other bands also had the same name,
I had a book about records released either as lps, eps, singles,

it was difficult the differentiate them all from one another."-🤔📻🎸🌐..

Cheers !
Had never heard of these guys before but just bought this LP at a thrift store for $2, because the album cover is cool and it’s on Verve. Great sound….really takes me back.
sounds like the Monkees
Canadian music has a certain edge i like. This is awesome
Yeah kind of like Rush! Just a little right? ;)
Finally, Finally found the vinyl yesterday in my fave London, Ontario shop. So happy!
Anyone here because of Bernie Finkelstein's book?
No a Rush documentary Beyond The Lighted Stage but perhaps I will read his book. ✌️
Bernie’s book is great - I recommend it, especially to any Canadians (like me) who were teenagers in the ’60s. I saw these guys live several times back then.
This band should have received more recognition
Ein tolles Album, sehr schöne Musik! A++++++++++++
Хорошая работа,хорошо слушается.
