Incredible deck. I used it to record so many tapes with incredible quality. Still like new and perfect. Awesome build quality and modern design for such an “old” audiophile device!
Hey great video, I just got the 808 with dbx, I bought it as spares/repairs in pristine condition like yours. Fault was just belts, I tested it with a rubber band for 5 mins and it left a huge smile on my face. I really can't wait for the belts to arrive and give it a new lease of life
This double deck, one of Onkyo midi, some Pioneer and of course the Akai midi and the Kenwood midi double decks are the most exciting from the design but I agree that this Aiwa looks like a tank and maybe the very best in quality! Perfect item description, great video! thx
I came across its littler brother, the 808, but it still wouldn't function after I'd cleaned it and replaced the belts; took it to a technician and he said a chip on one of the decks was blown and he couldn't get replacement parts for it; he probably would've had to order another deck in the range as parts to get it fixed. It would've cost around $120-150 and that was out of the scope I was willing to pay, though I do slightly regret not having this beautiful and unusual dual deck. I ended up finding a Denon DRM-710, the only 3 head in its line-up from what I can tell, and it sounds wonderful; only paid $75 for that, plus it matches my turntable by brand, which is a Denon DP-7F!
This is the best double cassette deck I've ever seen, I have an opportunity buy a Aiwa AD-WX888 brand new in box, I may get it as it looks really cool like yours
On this deck, The left cassette bay/well is not a 2 head system. The only way a deck would have any more than just ONE head...is when it is recording capable. This deck in regards to tape bay A, is a playback only....so...its a ONE head cassette well. (playback only)
Hello thanx for your clear explanation, since I am not englisk speaker and I've understand everything you said. That said, I bought this deck in 1991 and still use as main deck (new belts recently), and imo the big faults on this deck are: - Meters, as you mentioned (pity that Aiwa didn't fitted those of 808) - Very poor frequency response of deck A, which only serves for monitoring or easy listening (great difference with deck B, whose freq. response and sound quality is very high). About the rest, is one of the better double decks ever made. Best regards.-
I have a WX-999 that has an issue, it plays ok on the second deck but the reverse does not engage when pressed or when the tape reaches the end, the other transport controls don't lock in FW/RW, they stop when depressed.
Kenwood tape deck for midi m91 and Yamaha had a dual tape deck with two completely separate recording source line (slso 2x rec level and separate Dolby selector). yes. but 3 heads no. But I never saw a sense why I should monitor my recordings alive
There’s no doubt it is a beautiful deck and I love it’s frequency response, but VS the Sansui D-W10 it has a lot more features than this beauty.......I love my Sansui!
Incredible deck. I used it to record so many tapes with incredible quality. Still like new and perfect. Awesome build quality and modern design for such an “old” audiophile device!
Yes, the look is timeless. I had the WX-808 when it came out, and it looks almost exactly like the WX-909. It still looks fantastic today.
This is incredible. I had no idea that any manufacturer made a dual deck with a 3 head unit. My eyes have been opened.
what a sweet double tape deck! this channel is awesome, but you're making me want all this vintage hi-fi gear i probably can't afford.
It's actually a good bit less than the modern stuff, and even less than what is would have cost brand new

One of my dream decks! Quite the odd one too, never seen one with auto reverse, and the other being a 3head.
Gorgeous as well

Very good. I mean the video review and the deck too.

Cheers mate. I owed a lot of dual well decks, included this one.
Try also the SONY TCWR 950 and the TEAC WR990, Pioner CT 950WR
Your review convinced me to pull the trigger on one of these. :)
Hello. I'm so honored that you appreciate my hifi videos. Thank you very much. Greetings from central Europe.
You're welcome. I enjoyed some of your videos. I see you indeed love Technics!
The tape decks from Technics yes, but I had a small amplifier from Technics which sounded not good...in fact I love Kenwood design from 1985-1993 :-)
Love your Blog !
+Will Wright III Thank you so much!
I have seen this in brochure - circa 1988/89.

could be a dirty sensor on the tape transport or dried grease on the cam gear that engages ff/rwd
Cool design.
I have an ADF810 that had that chart on top. I never really used it. I just used interstation FM noise.
Wow what a beauty
The cherry on top was the CASETTE ! mini reel to reel.
Hi,did ANT changed 4066 cmos as well?

Every recording made on tape sould be monitored online, so you can detect any fault on time and correct on time.
i like aiwa and akai
