I always thought in a Maxwell rework he should be able to skip a magic tier the same way Wickerbottom skips a science tier. He was a magician that could use real magic spells so I think that would be really fitting
klei thinks shadow manipulator is super hard to craft and it's too OP to have a free lvl 1 magic. oh well, wicker which is MUCH stronger in all ways than maxwell, for some REASON CAN ACTUALLY SKIP ALL OF MAGIC CRAFTS WITH 1 BOOK WITH A CHEAP RECIPE.
I'd argue they're stronger now. They only cost 1/5 of a nightmare fuel to summon and you can have them each working in their own areas for a while and collect all the resources. The two traps are pretty disappointing though.
@@ericwheton6935 I mean, just while you're exploring around, you can place a couple loggers around a forest spread them out and then come back for the resources. I think they're pretty useful, especially since they're so cheap.
I think almost all the abilities are useful, the workers are so cheap it's easy to spam them, duelists are duelists, they suck but again spam. The prison is actually great since it works on bosses. But the only ability that sucks is the shadow sneak. It makes sense but when is any player going to use it, I have never wanted to kill beardlings, shadow bunny men, and/or shadow monkeys. It definitely needs to be tweaked or something interesting. The hats pretty nifty too

I think Maxwell's Shadow Duelists should share I-frames with each other and their damage should go to Maxwell's HP bar, with their A.I working similarly to the Bunnymen. That would make them attack more, last more and add to the gimmick of Maxwell worrying about his HP for it being low and being affected by his Shadow Duelists.
I don't think the hp thing could work because I can see a moment where you're low and start running but your duelists continue fighting... That wouldn't end up being so good.
The duelists kinda do suck, like sure they're easily spammed so go figure they suck. But there should be some sort of way to upgrade them or give them more power, literally anything to increase their usefulness because if it's anything tougher than a pigman or hound they just get mopped in seconds
I simply wouldn't use duelists if they lost me my health. I only get 75, I don't want that wittled away because idiotic duelists keep running into powerful attacks.
For all the Maxwell mains here's a warning at 0:21 where he does a thing called 'taking damage' I'm not sure why this wasn't blurred or why his channel wasn't given a strike by RUclips. I'll look deeper into getting this man banned from the internet for showing such horror, wish me luck.
while I like that they servants can do everything instead of there being separate once for everything the fact that they aren't permanent and only work in a small area is a bit annoying. I like the top hat, magic box and spells on the other hand. I just wish he had something that helped in a meaningful way during combat, because it just doesn't feel right that the former king doesn't have some kind of useful assistant, like let him summon actual nightmare creatures or something

@@teono6057 how about making him passive to nightmare creatures like the skull crown does and at the same time making it so it's harder for him to get the fuel (mostly just nightmare versions of mobs like rabbits) and improving the shadow servants slightly with a slightly higher sanity cap loss. It'd make Maxwell be the ultimate sanity character even more (sanity is a non-issue, nothing more than a resource), but harder to do the clone stuff

@@Nugget376 the thing that is 'better' is that the puppets can do stones or rocks all at once... but they don't follow you to a new area, soooo the puppets I summon in a forest are still ONLY chopping trees, and the puppets I summon in the rocky biome are still ONLY mining. but now they also die instead of following you to the next area. worse.

I can't unserstand why klei doesn't just make him actually able to control his own powers properly, the servant being limited Thing is outright stupid despite them being cheaper and doing everything, the duelists are still pathetic and they would struggle against even a hound wave, unlike Merm Guards and Webber 8 legged friends which btw can fight bosses properly, the thing that turn creatures in their shadow version is veeeery situational, the ender chest thing is the best of this rework, and the pillars are probably good but you need a warning to know when they're going to run out, is so sad that after the amazing stuff that Wx and Wicker got Maxwell who is the one of most developed and Important character in the Lore got this absolute letdown for the start of his "Rework", lets hope for the best on the next patches
No point, with your sanity at pretty much 0 when your using your puppets anyway, you're getting the resources back from the nightmare creatures that spawn anyway
They forgot everything he can do with his unique abilities can be done better without. Bosses to destroy tree farms, backpacks and Chester, followers. He doesn't make use of "Friendly" Nightmare Creatures or get a better version of Nightmare Sword/Armor despite fitting him. I think him being able to summon Nightmare Creatures but slowly losing Sanity and if your Sanity hits 0 they all turn on you would be an interesting mechanic. It would tie into him playing with the darkness but also how he overreaches. This would also be interesting because in the Lunar Biome this would fit thematically as the shadows clearly dislike the moon. They could be weaker but have no penalty for having them summoned. As to how this is different then normal followers simply put they don't obey physics and there are two types. It would make him function like Wendy where you want one follower but with the benefit of Wicker, Wort, and Webber where he could have many. It would also make him functionally unique since you'd want to wear sanity restoring equipment. So with a full set of optimal sanity restoration you might be able to have 2 Shadow Creatures infinitely.
Oh god I hope the shadow servants being so unfathomably crappy is owed to it still being beta. I'm still recovering from the Wolfgang incident Klei please
Maxwell is a really cool character and I always wanted to main him. sadly im not good with kiting and other dangers I wonder if anything health or sanity wise will change
Honestly if you want to get good at kiting and avoid tanking, play maxwell, that low hp forced me to be more careful when I first started playing him :)
learn how to tame a beefalo fast, and then sit on that beefy boi. you become a super tank with a huge damage weapon and no durability, and keep all ur maxwell resourcefulness:D

If they just made the worker's radius much larger, they would be great. Then you could just summon a few by a tree farm and run off to do other things.
The shadow loggers could be good for afk farms but them not following you really sucks for mining and, well pretty much everything else. You can't plant rocks or graves. It also sucks in the early game because you can't take down huge forests, you have to grow your own plantations. Shadow duelists are at least a little better now that you can have 6. I like the refueling mechanic, very convenient. Traps could be handy with bosses but the shadow sneak seems kinda lame. Why would I ever need to use that when I could just spawn a few servants and go insane lol. I do enjoy the direction it's going with maxwell being more of a support character, it just needs a little work.
The only suggestion I would make is to remove the cap on summoned clones and that summoning shadow clones drains sanity instead of reducing maximum sanity. The shadow clones will expire when Maxwell runs out of sanity or manually dismisses them. If A Maxwell wants to spend a season mass farming beef jerky so that he can constantly slam it down his throat in order to keep 30 clones summoned at once for a boss fight, he should be able to do so.
it's lame:( wish it was zero cap, but still cost sanity. so if you had enough sanity foods, you could summon an army of duelists to fight a boss for you, but it'd take just as much cheese preparation time as wickerbottoms tentacles, and be.. well dramatically worse still because the duelists are weak af.
the area thing feels really bad while playing, it costs a lot from the book and sanity to get these guys out and they pretty much do what you could, also the fact you kinda have to "wait" for them sux and you don't really choose which action they will perform first, whereas if you were doing things yourself you can just keep exploring and using your time better to find flints, rocks, carrots, etc. on the ground the only decent part about the book are the duelists which do help a ton during hound attacks for example (saved me and my brother multiple times when we started playing) and the shadow prison is great somehow but it's not super impressive either (like imagine if you could spawn a pillar made of shadow that lasted all night, or forever if inside a cave, that would be so much better)
So they're worse in that they cost no resources, can collect things you might not have the tool to collect yet, and do so without burning durability on said tools? And thats... bad?
Its really funny how this video came out hours after the beta realeased an now that the finished update its just 2 days away from release 80 % of the video is outdated
To be fair the beta just came out so stuff is subject to change and balancing (also community feedback but just remember to be nice, being rude gets you nowhere)
I think Maxwell should have shadow creatures be neutral to him like when you wear a bone helm. Remove the radius thing for the shadow servants and allow him to teleport with shadow fuel like Wortox, maybe even allow him to teleport other people with him and voila. Also have WX's music circuit reduce his sanity, it just makes sense
I'll be 100% honest, this refresh suck ass in my opinion. Easily the worst one so far. I always considered maxwell incredibly weak. Low hp hard to get nightmare fuel. Very meh power. And they didn't really change that. Duelists still suck. The workers are cheaper ig.. The ender chest thing is alright but so out of left field. And the traps and sneaks? What? I can't bitch too much because honestly I don't know how I'd fix this myself but if it'll be anything similar to what we have now maxwell will be a giant flop for me
I suppose this would be a p good update if the minions weren't as stupid. The duelist is fine, but chopper and the gang need an AI Boost. Having them bound to a radius should be an OPTION, not the only way.
I liked when maxwell had his minions not die and work in a small radius, so I don't think that choice is "mildly annoying" it's really.. weird. I'm still salty about the Woodie rework lol. I mean, he's not bad but like... dang.
To be honest I was kind of hoping for more with this rework, but I love the top hat thing and the traps! It would also be cool if he could make a version of the thulecite Maxwell's Traps from adventure mode
If you put one or two shadow gatherers at base they could just keep picking twigs and grass until you get back. If you could somehow link their ability to gather things to a chest or Chester that would be a good update
The workers seem very underwhelming and I question the following : - Can they finally farm yet? - Can they put stuff in maxwell's magic box, or another chest? This would be awesome - Why is the radius so small. - For the love of god let them pick up like 5 items at once. They have HANDS.
If I had to change anything about this here is what I would change. Make it so that the shadow servants can follow you again and make it so they just go away after like 2 in game days or something.
Man the servants were already kinda mid, but giving them limited range is gonna make them completely unviable in just about every situation. I'm a solo Max player and this is gonna suck all the fun out of playing him.
to Maxwell's rework, I was already thinking about things them could do, like, his shadows being smarter and his shadows from battle knowing how to kite, then it varies from enemy to enemy, but then, he would be more stronger than Wanda and wolfgang , that's why the shadow only has a limited time for it to stay alive and after that time it disappears and drops half of the nightmare fuel you used to make the shadows, it seems like a good idea, and about his shadows that mine and Dig , if an enemy is attacking them like I don't know, spider, they kite the spider and keep doing the work, and I think only the battle shadows should have time, it would make Maxwell more useful and would be more used, then the shadow of battle lasts will be, half a day or a whole day, I don't know yet, if it doesn't get broken
Wurt and Webber can make armies (who dont die in 1-2hits) And Wendy's Abigael is literally one man army, especially with potion buffs and I find it very unfair that Wanda has better items and synergy with nightmare fuel than Nightamare fuel king Maxwell who lived and breathed nightmarefuel
Duelists can now solo pigmen soooo, it's alright. Having the chopers/miners/diggers locked in a place, make them do their thing and leave is quite fine imo. Now you can summon 5 minions for 1 nightmarefuel which is great. Combining your prison with minions is meh vs bosses because of the one shot buuuuuuuut with other players you are beyond S tier.
I think his shadows need a little tweak, when I read the forum post I thought they still used nightmare fuel just not items anymore which, I think could be cool? But yeah
so do they pick up random shit in the base cause if they do then they nerfed him he still sucks i hope they change him so he gets a lot more unique to play

TBH if the duelists had actual decent kiting AI they would be amazing at fighting most things.

It would be cool if you could put the Codex Umbra into Wicker's bookshelves for them to restore durability. It might be too powerful though.
Nightmare fuel is piss easy to obtain, so I doubt it would impact the game much.

I think Maxwell should have shadow creatures be neutral to him like when you wear a bone helm. Remove the radius thing for the shadow servants and allow him to teleport with shadow fuel like Wortox, maybe even allow him to teleport other people with him and voila. Also have WX's music circuit reduce his sanity, it just makes sense
I just realized you can kill the skeleton moose thing next to the portal and have a real person revive you when its dead
I'll be 100% honest, this refresh suck ass in my opinion. Easily the worst one so far. I always considered maxwell incredibly weak. Low hp hard to get nightmare fuel. Very meh power. And they didn't really change that. Duelists still suck. The workers are cheaper ig.. The ender chest thing is alright but so out of left field. And the traps and sneaks? What? I can't bitch too much because honestly I don't know how I'd fix this myself but if it'll be anything similar to what we have now maxwell will be a giant flop for me
Try giving a look at the Maxwell puppet mastermind mod, its great

I suppose this would be a p good update if the minions weren't as stupid. The duelist is fine, but chopper and the gang need an AI Boost. Having them bound to a radius should be an OPTION, not the only way.
I liked when maxwell had his minions not die and work in a small radius, so I don't think that choice is "mildly annoying" it's really.. weird. I'm still salty about the Woodie rework lol. I mean, he's not bad but like... dang.
This seems like a good groundwork for a new maxwell maybe he'll get more traps and become more like a webber Winona hybrid
To be honest I was kind of hoping for more with this rework, but I love the top hat thing and the traps! It would also be cool if he could make a version of the thulecite Maxwell's Traps from adventure mode

If you put one or two shadow gatherers at base they could just keep picking twigs and grass until you get back. If you could somehow link their ability to gather things to a chest or Chester that would be a good update

The workers seem very underwhelming and I question the following :
- Can they finally farm yet?
- Can they put stuff in maxwell's magic box, or another chest? This would be awesome
- Why is the radius so small.
- For the love of god let them pick up like 5 items at once. They have HANDS.

If I had to change anything about this here is what I would change.
Make it so that the shadow servants can follow you again and make it so they just go away after like 2 in game days or something.

Maxwell Gaming moment
The Maxwell main in me was terrified the rework was going to stay this boring, a moment of relief to know that it's really fun now.
Man the servants were already kinda mid, but giving them limited range is gonna make them completely unviable in just about every situation. I'm a solo Max player and this is gonna suck all the fun out of playing him.
My opinion stands, new Maxwell kinda sucks ngl, i still recommend ppl try the Maxwell puppet mastermind mod
I don't mind the shadow puppets not lasting very long, but I really don't care for the very limited range
I have maxwell gaming in my basement beat every boss with alot of player without any weapons or armor or maxwell gaming will never breathe again
to Maxwell's rework, I was already thinking about things them could do, like, his shadows being smarter and his shadows from battle knowing how to kite, then it varies from enemy to enemy, but then, he would be more stronger than Wanda and wolfgang , that's why the shadow only has a limited time for it to stay alive and after that time it disappears and drops half of the nightmare fuel you used to make the shadows, it seems like a good idea, and about his shadows that mine and Dig , if an enemy is attacking them like I don't know, spider, they kite the spider and keep doing the work, and I think only the battle shadows should have time, it would make Maxwell more useful and would be more used, then the shadow of battle lasts will be, half a day or a whole day, I don't know yet, if it doesn't get broken
Wurt and Webber can make armies (who dont die in 1-2hits) And Wendy's Abigael is literally one man army, especially with potion buffs
and I find it very unfair that Wanda has better items and synergy with nightmare fuel than Nightamare fuel king Maxwell who lived and breathed nightmarefuel

Duelists can now solo pigmen soooo, it's alright.
Having the chopers/miners/diggers locked in a place, make them do their thing and leave is quite fine imo.
Now you can summon 5 minions for 1 nightmarefuel which is great.
Combining your prison with minions is meh vs bosses because of the one shot buuuuuuuut with other players you are beyond S tier.
This is cool but man am still waiting for willson rework

I can see people getting a bunch of friends and having them all summon 6 duelists for each player 30 f you have 5. To defeat a boss
