Hey, just wanted to say that I enjoyed your videos so much!
Really liked the way you tell stories, the themes you choose to cover and your sense of humour (somehow reminded me of Mighty Boosh and Monthy Python which I adore) , as well as your video editing skills. Please, keep posting!
    You deserve thousands of subscribers.
    Cheers from Ukraine!

This is really good stuff you make in this channel. As an artist currently struggling with creative block AND a cognitive scientist, I have to say thank you for putting this kind of content out there!

Loved this. Trying to wrap one's head around the inner workings of creativity (the general formalization and our own personal flavor of it) is such a fascinating process to run alongside your own artistry. I still can't help feeling like to me the creative system and my own awareness of it are mostly separate and nearly parallel processes that rarely intersect, as if they were two distinct realities that came to share the same space. Occasionally though, one will nurture the other; that more output implies a higher likelihood that some of it will be exceptional (-ly bad or great) is definitely one of those realizations that can dramatically improve your artistic practice (after 1 year of writing morning pages myself I've experienced that to be flabbergastingly true, it's like I've primed my brain to generate more and more ideas, as it's learned to expect I will be asking for them to show up every single day at the pages); as is that your structural knowledge in one domain can be transferred to another, and that's one of the key things that bring about "genius" discoveries, which leads me to my view on creative blocks. I think creative blocks are blessings, in that they are a wake up call, telling you the creative demons have been improperly fed, that they need more play, variety and possibly rest (staring at the ceiling is productive too, mom) and that there are discrepancies between what you are currently creating and what you expected to or thought you ought to be creating, which in itself is a direct reflection of the inner workings of the system. I'm intrigued by what the fields of generative art and computational creativity will reveal about how black boxes (deep neural nets or any system with emergent behavior) think, and how that can help us understand our own creativity as humans, in turn. Hopefully some of this made sense, and again, great twerking and looking forward to more vids, they somehow keep getting better, so there you go. Cheers!

This comment is so so so amazing. thank you for your thoughts. "that more output implies a higher likelihood that some of it will be exceptional (-ly bad or great) is definitely one of those realizations that can dramatically improve your artistic practice" love that. and completely agree. i was hoping that fellow artists hearing this would maybe feel a little less pressure in terms of trying to do things perfectly. also love your point about how creative blocks are wake up calls because another element of the process (play etc) needs tending to. one thing i didn't mention here is the practice effect. blocks can prevent from practicing which can prevent from improvement. finally, i think you're right in thinking about the future of understanding this stuff could come from neural nets. ive been thinking about emergent behavior in relation to the recent r/place subreddit. where you can only place 1 pixel every 5 minutes. its got me thinking about schools of fish, flocks of birds, and neurons in the brain. I really really appreciate your thoughts and support. means the world ::)
