On a different note, good on you for making a video that has a USMC tarp configuration set up, as it seems no monkey has done a video about just using a issued tarp like this. I do have a new UCP one love it and it does blend very well with most of the aired enviro's I camp in believe it or not.
Finally, someone has done it with a tarp, rather than the poncho. Thank you. I am very interested in how well it served you on a camping trip. Where did you get the long poles, the correct length? How much do they weigh? Is it possible to get titanium poles? Have you gone camping with it? Texas
Papa Jeff hi, more info in the description, not sure on the weight of the poles, maybe around a pound for the pair? Haven’t tried out yet in the wild. The heat doesn’t quit down here lol.
Great vid thanks for sharing, I'm sure on the old Alpha tent webpage there was a setup using this tarp but it got removed years ago. Thought i was going mad, I have searched the web high and low to find the images of it. Luckily I found your vid.
Suggest a quick preview of the complete tarp setup before you get into the detail. Hard to follow without knowing what the outcome envisioned by you will be.
Great video showing a perfect idea. Which one do you prefer, the poncho type or the tarp type ? I just think the poncho will give much more ventilation. And could you tell me the height of it ?
I actually followed your measurements for the poncho and it came out great! So thank you for that. I have a question for you regarding the tarp version. I did this set up as well and the construction of it seems to be a little squishier than the poncho. Did this happen to you too?
Yes, as the poles are longer and the material heavier. These poles are 8.5mm and the link in the description to the poles has an option for thicker poles, the 16ft 3" and the 20ft poles show them as being 9.5mm diameter. I'll be trying those one day lol
6 years in the cold rain with nothing but that stupid tarp called a poncho that can't even be worn as a poncho and you show me this now? I just sat here with my mouth gaped enough to take the proverbial green weenie for like 10 minutes in shock when you made a perfect little shelter out of that thing in like a minute.

I wish they would have shown us this and the poncho trick in the fleet.

through hiker on mountain trail seeing those stakes: aww that's cute, honey look 😂
In warm hot humid climates, its easier to just get wet. Wear quick dry clothes. Swim trunks. Keep your feet dry- change socks. Yea, pretty easy.
Really great idea, thanks.
Just Subscribed looking forward to seeing your videos
Could you share me that 3D Print File? I’d love to use those stoppers you made! Thank you!
How long were the tent poles?
Man you are so lucky to get one new???

Nice video great idea

have you tried adding a 3rd pole?
I was thinking more along the lines of using 9.5mm poles instead of the 8.5mm in this video.
what are the pros and cons of this setup vs traditional cord or bungees?
Free standing and more efficient use of the material. The trade-off being that you have to carry the poles with you.

HA i bothered you on the forums for this, disregard that request lol
Will you sell those end caps?
Working on that :)
danpass12 I’d certainly buy a set. It’d be much nicer than the wire nuts I’ve been using all these years!
@@danpass12 Would be willing to buy several sets
I would buy a few sets, for sure.
Lets see a video in 25 knot gusts. How does it hold up?

Better than 7 years I suppose!
