You mean like when ScoMo's government in 2021 sold the Leppington Triangle land near Sydney to Liberal megadonors Tony and Ron Perich for $3 million, only for the public to find out later the land was worth in excess of $30 million?? You mean like that?
Last I read only two HST routes are profitable and they are in Japan connecting 10s of million population between city pairs. Pre-pandemic China claimed Beijing to Shanghai profitable but that is stated by China and is precovid. Their HST system nationwide does have hidden debt of US$1 trillion.
You **definitely** read wrong. HST is enormously profitable in France and Japan, and to a lesser but still significant degree in the nations surrounding France: Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium. It was so famously profitable in France that it practically wiped out domestic air travel.
Be Careful you ozzie dont let your gov turn the Austrilian version of the HS2 catastrophe we have had it went billioms over budget , route size reduce masively etc
It makes plenty of sense in built up regions on the East Coast. Not so much for, say, Perth to Adelaide, even though it would cut the travel time from 70 hours to about 13.
@@PopulismIsForBottomFeeders I'd like to add to the argument that Japan is shrinking in population size, meanwhile the opposite is true to Australia. The fastest OECD nation set to triple its population by the end of the century
HSR will become essential for the corridor from Newcastle to Sydney, simple. You can do it now at great expense, or you can do it later at great expense. It will have to be done at some point either way.
I loved catching the train between Sydney and Brisbane when I was at Uni. Sat next to an old guy once who claimed to have started the SAS . He was on his way to Canberra . He had war medals and a book full of photographs of himself in Military uniform through out the years . He had loads of Desert Rat type photos. I sort of believed him. I also remember a girl getting on at a country station and sitting down next to a guy in the seat in front of me . He proceeded to speak absolute smut to her and boasted about his sex life. They had a few beers and in the middle of the night went to the toilet and did the deed . I thought that was strange. The only decent food was the breakfast. Bacon and Egg roll and strong tea.
Short answer: because it's electrified and it'll be slowed down by all the challenges to building the infrastructure because, as you know, electricity is 'wOkE' and causes all the PCs to go mad.
What's the point of going from Sydney to Newcastle in 45 minutes, if the stations at both ends aren't in the right places, so you have to spend over an hour at each end travelling on other modes of transport to use the high speed rail. You might as well just drive... The current federal government pulled the pin on the $2B Tuggerah to Wyong faster rail project, which would have cut current train travel times by about 35 minutes, making it about 2 hours, which would, because of the number of stations serviced (which high speed rail would not have), would be competitive with driving. Years ago, I proposed a more direct route from Gosford to Central, which would slash travel times by over 30 minutes even if the trains were no faster than now. Woy Woy to Central via Mona Vale (connecting to Northern Beaches buses) and Chatswood (connecting to Metro), tunnelling under the CBD and surfacing near Redfern to enable through running to the South Coast, Southern Highlands, Blue Mountains etc. Completely ignored, of course. Combine the two and you have sub-90 minute trains from Newcastle to Sydney, with scope for other upgrades to improve times further while servicing existing stations and interchanging to other services...
If I did that and I had to fly to aussie. I would be very very nervous about it. I get butterflies just thinking about it now. What if they killed me on the way to prevent it happening?

Почему так мало железных дорог не выгодно что-ли перевозить грузы по железной дороге, или рельсы деформируется от сильного воздействия солнца и жары летом.
They are modeling "The California Model" 20+ years and Billions spent and no train...
Why cant we model the Japanese Model instead?
It's actually kind of the same thing. They're just further down the path.

$100 - $200 million dollars per km!!! Do they plan to make 24 carat Gold plated tracks??
The Unions will be all over it. 💰💰💰💵💵
All the consultants and middle men with their finger in the pie mate
It will never happen because it is too big a concept for Australians to comprehend. My opinion.
"6 months looking for CEO" - let me guess! it had to be a very diverse CEO?
Another unicorn railway. Just like the Melbourne to airport one. This is just another way the government feeds the pockets of its mates.

why is it so expensive?

They would be able to afford the cost of power to move it.
