- I woke up the other morning with Granny's Christmas Mints on my mind. I tried to make them even though I didn't have the right ingredients 😀

My best friend owns a chocolate shop and I just called her.She said your clear molds are for chocolate, and the white molds are for candy. They are made with diff plastic ingredients as one requires more slip than the other . But not a fail! If they are edible it’s good. You’ve inspired me though to make these as they remind me almost of a chewy mint taffy ❤❤
Thank you!!
Good to know
Thank You 🙏 Tipper
I could of told you that, you can buy candy molds anywhere! And, that’s how, I started making candy as a kid, course with my mom’s help then!
Thank you! 😊
It was so good to hear Granny's sweet voice. Praying for Granny!!
Hearing Granny's voice on the phone made me miss my mom. She passed in 2018, age 93. I know I'll see her in heaven for all eternity, but I still miss her now. Thank you for all that you do for all of us.
I miss mine too, especially at Christmas
I know how you feel our momma's are so loved and missed but we will see them again your right about that. My momma passed in 98 and I still want to run to her when I'm sick or something good happens and I'm 59yrs old . Memories are sweet and sad at the same time.
Sending you 🕊️Blessings and Peace 🕊️
🎄MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄
The recipe my Mama used was called “Butter mints.”
You don’t melt the butter. It needs to be softened at room temp. Then the dough forms nicely. Did not use molds. You take a little bit of dough and roll it out into a snake like line and cut them into individual mints. 😊
I love this old recipe too. We had these at my wedding 50 years ago. I’m thinking we got the recipe from my home economics class (back when we actually cooked in class❤️)
It was really nice hearing Granny on the phone. She has a great memory. Praying for her, and that her energy picks up, but she's been through a lot and it will probably take a bit of time. Understandably so. I love y'all. 🙏
Oh, Tipper, I'm so glad you did this video. So many youtubers wouldn't show something they thought failed, but you are so real and true to who you are. I don't think it was a fail as long as you can still eat them. I was hoping to see Matt try one. You can always tell what a person thinks when they bite into something new. It was so good to hear Granny's voice. I woke up praying for many people and she was at the top of the list. God bless!
Merry Christmas to you and your family, good to see you again 🎄
I loved the honesty of your mint making. Brought a wonderful memory of me and my sisters recalling our childhood and now in our seventies trying to make Mama’s popcorn balls. We had loads of laughs trying to decide how she did it and whether they tasted like we remembered. You didn’t fail. You relived wonderful memories with your Mom!💖
Such a fun video and so good to hear Granny's voice!!!
Don't be so hard on yourself. You didn't give up. That's a win! Wish you'd make the hard rock candy!
Tipper i enjoyed this so much i love how you experimented on a.memory with us.ita edible and its peppermint candy🙂 thanks again for sharing this memory and this moment
I think it’s awesome that you shared this with us, that things don’t always turn out like we want, but glad the candy still tasted good..I love hearing your memories of Granny making them & letting you help..was good to hear Granny’s voice & my prayers for her are ongoing and I’m praying for the girls & your whole family ❤❤
It's the LOVE that ANY cook adds to their dish!! That's the "special ingredient"!😊
Tipper, it wasn't an epic fail. We learn from our mistakes. God bless you and yours. 🙏❤🙏❤🎅🤶🧑🎄🌲
So true! Thank you 😀
Tipper, one time when I came home after being gone for a few years my mom asked what would I like to have. I answered hot oatmeal. This is Quaker Oats out of the box mind you and I made it for myself plenty of times but it never tasted like my moms’ and sure enough when I took the first spoonful it tasted exactly like I remembered. ❤️
Love that 😀
That is such a sweet story. I remember my son saying he liked grandma’s Mac and cheese better than mine. He wasn’t comparing my homemade Mac and cheese, but the boxed Kraft one. Ha.
We enjoyed your daring Tipper 👏👏👏👏
How about a renaming? Easy buttermint twist taffy !
You might be older but your excitement is like a child enjoying yourself as you try to replacate Granny's recipe from your childhood days.I couldn't help but smile as you went back and forth questioning yourself about what might be the problem. Granny's just a phone call away 🤗 I still have a landline and a cell phone. I'm old school in more ways than one. I had the same problem years ago like Granny has when it rained. I was so thankful the technician was able to fix it. He said it was a break in the line and water was getting into it. Praying Granny has remarkable results from her treatments and gets her strength back soon. Blessed! 🤗🙏💕
I used to work with an older lady who had never married and still lived in her childhood home, to hear her tell it she had not had a decent bite to eat since her mother passed, which was 25 or 30 years prior, nothing was ever as good as what her momma had made, as a momma myself I know what high praise that is and how much joy that comes from feeding my family, I don’t know if she ever told her momma when she was living how good she thought her cooking was, but she sure missed it when she was gone.
This is me in the kitchen with any new recipe 😂 I think I can do it then it all goes up in flames. But I persist and eventually get a better recipe than the one I was trying to duplicate. I'd love to see attempt #2 with the correct molds. Remember, chocolate molds are typically see through and candy molds are typically opaque to solid color.
Loved you trying. Engineers where I worked years ago had a saying, " Engineers don't make mistakes, they make revisions ". The saying could be modified to say, " Good cooks don't make mistakes, they make changes until it is right ".
I love hearing you speak your thoughts out loud while you're figuring or deciding. My mom made those when I was growing up too, but she passed 20 years ago. It was fun sitting with you making them. 😊 AND hearing Granny.
You could take granny’s molds that are cut out and make all her grandkids a Christmas ornament from them, we are sentimental about all those things here to! 🥰
I think it's wonderful and makes me feel better that you shared this even though you weren't happy at the outcome. I can certainly empathize. ❤ It's not a fail if you learned something, that's what I try to tell myself.
Tipper, my good friend once told me that it's useless to just keep something and never use it. I remembered that and now I use all the "precious" dishes, glasses, ornaments, etc. and it makes the occasion for their use even more special. If they break, oh well...
That is so true 😀
My mom used to make those all of the time for weddings and showers. She would have me display them on a platter.
I've been cooking since I was a child. I'm a pretty good home cook. But there are a few things I've always struggled with. Fried chicken, I'm ashamed to say. My mom and her mom made great fried chicken but it intimidates me. And my mom's dressing at Thanksgiving was so good. My sister can make it but mine never turns out as good. But I make great pies, I make good gravy and I know people who struggle with that, and my spaghetti and meatballs is well known amongst my friends and family. Thank you for sharing your peppermint journey! ❤
I love anything mint flavor 😋
Oh my goodness. I remember these. It was so good to hear granny on the phone! My grandma died this spring and it reminded me of talking to her about cooking old family recipes. The mint molds we had were made of a soft gray rubber and you could pop them out. For some reason, I think of them as a spring-time treat. We made a few kinds for family weddings.
It looks more like taffy than mints but I bet it tastes good! Thanks for sharing your “failure” with us. Makes the rest of us feel good! Enjoy!
You’ve got to have dry weather to make old fashioned pulled mints, and marble slab to rest on. This is a different recipe. We were over the moon when Mom made these. Blessings.
I remember Mom making divinity candy. If it was humid they didn't turn out and she would call it Sea Foam Candy. she never gave up though and finally stumbled on a fail proof recipe and after all those years of trying she made the best divinity I ever ate. From then on she was the go to if anyone was going to make divinity and needed help. Well I wouldn't say it was an epic fail. I bet they taste great! Peppermint is good for stomach and indigestion upsets. Well the cool part is the molds held up and I believe you made Sea foam Candy!! hahaha Praying for Granny always!!
I had the same thought about divinity & the weather!! Since you mentioned it, I don’t have too ❤ but I am inspired to make some divinity now. 😂
hahaha go for it!!@@mariontheantiquarian7849
It's going be okay yes we learned though your mistakes am sure your recipe going be very good and granny sound good God bless you and your lovely family ❤
Never heard of this type of candy. Thanks it was good to hear granny's voice.
I make cream cheese mints. Everyone loves them. Give them a try. Love your channel.
God bless Granny. She is such a beautiful person, so sweet! God bless you all!
The taste is most important. God Bless. ❤&🙏🙏'ers for Granny. Jean
My mom made hundreds of mints for mine and my sister's weddings. She had one rubber mold which is a flexible mold and easy to pop them out. She worked so hard but they were so good❤ and so appreciated. My moms recipe was powdered sugar cream cheese and flavoring there was no cooking.
So true. I remember my Great Grandmother made the best popcorn balls on Halloween.
Even if the taste was the same, it just wouldn’t be as good - it’s the love and nostalgia you felt at the time. At least, that’s my experience. Very proud your mother is doing better.
Same issues with my land line! Lol! One of the joys of living in an old neighborhood.
That was so much fun watching you trying to make mints! Not everything we make turns out. I’m sure you’ll figure it out with Granny! 😊❤️🇨🇦🙏🎄
Tipper, A grand effort for Katie and good memories. 🥰
Looks like it came out good for a first try that you haven’t done in a long time I’m sure they were delicious it was great to hear from Granny to❤️ we all continue to pray for her
Tipper no one cooks as good as a childhood memory.
Wouldn't call this an epic fail, they just didn't turn out with same texture as you're used to. As long as you can still eat them, then that's a success.😊 I can make something exactly like mom's, measure for measure, stir for stir, exactly, but it's not as good because it tasted better when she made it.😀 Good to hear Granny on the phone. Continued prayers for her 🙏🏻
😀 Thank you!!
What wonderful memories! We made mints that sound like what you remember for our wedding in the 80's. They were with powdered sugar, but I don't think we cooked them. They were creamy smooth and melted in your mouth. We had to chill them in the fridge to get them to set up right and hold the form of the molds. Hope you can find a way to recreate the ones you loved as a child!!
Those sound great 😀
What a great memory. 😊Regina
Hey Tipper, we just made made Christmas cookies with peppermint Frost. My daughter used peppermint oil instead of extract. She used a tooth pick and got a tiny drop otherwise they were super strong and the frosting never set on the cookies!!! You were on the right track to problem solve. 😂❤
Thank you Brenda 😀
This was pleasant to watch 🎄❤️
But not a total fail... I learned something too. Thanks Tipper 👍🎄❤️
Very enjoyable! ❤
They were a really pretty red and at least you tried 😊
Give Granny a hug for me and I will be praying that she has good results from her scan. When my Mom was sick I always felt like I was hurry up and waiting for results. I pray 🙏🏼 she gets stronger too. She sounded good on the phone. I know you wish she was there with you so you could enjoy doing that together. Luv Ya Tipper 🫶🏻🙏🏼
This reminds me of when my mother and and whole bunch of friends made hard candy. I don't remember who was there. I just remember that it was fun and my mother warned us away from the hot candy. They were so pretty and yummy.
This was so fun. Thanks for inviting us into your kitchen.
Watching these always brings fond memories back for me😊❤
I love your cooking videos especially watching you make old family recipes. Even if they don't turn out the way you were expecting! 😅
Love the greenery of Christmas vlog. ❤️
One of my favorite episodes! I chuckled with you at the fail. Lol! Sometimes things just don't work.
Thank you Tipper love seeing all u share
What a sweet treasure you have. Love your show!
It was nice seeing this kind of science project taking place. And reminds us that sometimes we experiment and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. It was a great learning experience.
Loved hearing Granny. ❤ Bless her sweet heart.
It is so true about how you can't recreate or duplicate the way our moms or grannies cooked! My mother made the best pound cakes and I have her recipes! She's even worked with me and shown me how she does it! But mine are never as good as hers! She's got that touch and patience! And she knows when the recipe "looks right!" Y'all know if you've been taught by your Mama be or your Granny to cook, they didn't always use a recipe! Just stir in whatever ingredients and stir until it looks right!
My mom had little flexible rubber molds she used to make her mints- so good!
Tipper you deserve a lot of credit for giving it a try, and they looked good on the plate. The video was a lot of fun to watch, and we all got to hear from Granny.
Yum yum, save me some Tipper, God bless Granny, Merry Christmas
Love the Reverware pans. I have a couple that I inherited from my Mama. 1960s, it was the best in its day.
I really like them too 😀 They were Matt's grandmother's 😀
I enjoyed this video so much! So good to hear Granny’s voice. 😍 I’m sure your next batch of candy will be just right. Childhood memories are so wonderful however, I think our taste buds change as we age so things don’t ever seem quite the same. Thank you for allowing us into you home for so many wonderful visits. 😍
Lovely to see and I was right there with you in my own failures. And it’s the love that makes the taste so good. Xxx
Tipper, I just made a recipe similar to yours. I think where you went wrong, was, to add your butter, syrup, and half your powdered sugar, and bring that to a rolling boil. Boil for about 5 minutes, then remove from the heat and add the other half of your sugar, vanilla and peppermint flavoring. Then wait until you can knead it, separate your dough and add whatever color you’re using. Don’t give up, you’ll get it! ❤
Thanks for the tip 😀
I wonder if it cooked to long to a soft ball stage. ?
How I wish I had someone as nice and sweet to give me suggestions when I tried to make candy . I had a horrible time with it have never tried anything like that again. 💕
Thanks Tipper. Enjoyed the video!❤❤
I enjoyed the video. You have me trying to think of something my Mama made at Christmas that I would like to make that we enjoyed when I was a kid. She made good divinity but I hate making it. It was good hearing Granny. I loved that you had her molds and could still use them for a while. Prayers for Granny. Wishing you and your family the joy of the Christmas season.
Continued prayers for grannies, Katie. And Cori. Tipper they look yummy. Love learning from you. Thank you.
Thanks so much 😀
I really enjoyed watching you make the mints..You'll have to take us along on your next try👍🥰💞
I love how you talk to yourself when your cooking😂. I do the same thing. I like that you do “home cooking”. Merry Christmas 🤗🤗🤗
i said to myself, “i wonder if they have frontier” !!! hahahaha i have my land line up here in wv and it sounds exactly the same.
those little candies are really cute btw
thanks for sharing with us miss tipper 😊
😀 Thank you
Thanks for sharing this video. I enjoyed it even though it didn't turn out like you wanted it to.
So good to hear Granny's voice.
"Epic Fail" lol LOVE IT! lol :-)
Tipper some of my candy fails have been what people loved! Thank you for sharing ❤️
Thank you Robin 😀
Great video to show things happen and there are fails. Glad you called Granny. I hope it all works out for her.
Thanks for sharing!
My mother use to make candy for Christmas, I enjoyed watching ❤
I think any day you get extra time to play in the kitchen is successful! Regardless if what you make is perfect or you learn how not to make it. Sounds like a beautiful memory, maybe you'll be able to make new memories with the boys. What a blessing!
Very fun video! I woke up thinking about going Christmas caroling and how that is a loss festive fun childhood memory.
Thanks for another fun video. I have many happy failures in candy making. Usually mine don’t look so pretty but the taste is good. Happy Holidays to you and your family!
I so enjoyed this video! ❤ Now you look like me trying to figure it out in kitchen. 😅 So heart harming!!! 🥰👍 Thank you for sharing. PRECIOUS!!!!
So glad you enjoyed it 😀
Oh my, you look like me when I try something new in the kitchen. Hope u don’t mind me chuckling while I watched. Ha.
Loved this experience. No failure here. God bless.
They look a pretty red! 🍬 Like those chewy Brachs tree mints, those are my fave! Buy them every November.😊 Lol, my parents are in the country Appalachians in PA and their phone gets all fuzzy, too. My mom always says, you're phone is making noise and I cant hear, lol, when it's theirs.😂 God bless y'all, and season's greetings!🍬🎄💖🎁 I pray Granny regains her pep. Was lovely to hear her voice.❤
I’ll bet those are good. And, so pretty! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
Oh please make them again with the new molds!! Enjoyed this video!
You were willing to try. That's the most important thing. You're a good enough cook so, you'll perfect your technique. And you didn't make any weird faces and pretend it was good. - so a work in progress. Thanks for sharing 🤗
Good afternoon from CA! I really like your apron with the top you have on, very pretty. Hope your candy comes out how it is supposed to😊❤
Yay, happy you got the exact same molds!!
Thank you 😀
I want to try and make this too. Thank you for posting this recipe
My daughter says the same thing about homemade dishes she makes that they don't taste the same as mine. I enjoyed your video and your stories about your mother, our mothers are close in age my mother was born in 1942, she passed in 2015.
I love that you are humble enough to show us this fail. Thanks. It gets tiring watching folks pretend everything is perfect. Hugs to all of you. ~love from, Mary & fam in NJ
I agree nothing tastes as good as mom's
I don't think I would have the patience for this. It would make me want to fly to pieces! Now I do make the cracker candy every year since I saw your recipe. That's so yummy!
Ok Tipper, I give you a ten for trying and not giving up on the candy. Looked good and I loved the color. If you can enjoy it with your family it's a win. I loved listening to your mother talking, all the money in the world can't take that away from memories. God blessings.
I love your videos! What a wonderful family you guys have. I take peppermint oil for my stomach and it helps
It’s gon be someone who needs some peppermint… I laughed out loud! Thanks Tipper
😀
