    I came back from my first operational tour with a recommendation for promotion.
    So I guess I was at least a 'sticker'.
    I've never seen anyone that has met Chip say a bad word about him. A great guy and a very positive example of the British Army officer class.

    Major Chris Keeble is my hero of Goose Green.
    ===================================
    A man
    who takes time to think,
    instead of going off gung-ho,
    and
    who persuades a superior enemy
    in well-entrenched positions
    to surrender,
    is
    my kind of officer!
    So interested to note
    that Major General Chapman
    has that same respect.

    Britain was stretched to the absolute limit of its military capacity in the Falklands war. Since then its forces have been reduced by half.

      Mostly by the Tories.
      Thatcher/Major got rid of 104,000
      Cameron + others got rid of 54,000 (mostly the army)
      Blair/Brown got rid of 19,000 but did not touch the army at all which stayed at 109,000.

    Reinforces once again the need for the toughest and most realistic training possible and yet today we have "DEI" and "green" policies inflicted on the services!

    • @badgertheskinnycow
      @badgertheskinnycow 13 часов назад

      You may not be aware but in government & public service employment it is the 'DEI' managers who look out for the interests and welfare of veterans.
      The military has been evolving for decades. What a pity you haven't.

    It's interesting he says he carried a pistol to remind himself that he was a leader not an ordinary soldier ! Wonder if the actions of H Jones inspired that line of thinking!

    The UK government and its armed forces have no one of substance capable of preparing UK for major conflict. This is a the result of poor leadership spanning three decades. Whilst its possible to learn from the past the conflict of the future will look nothing like WWII. Wars are won through strategy and not through tactics and the next war will need a whole of society strategy. Its not about tools its about effective leadership.

    What’s so embarrassing is that so many gave their lives for the islands and the Falklanders repaid these brave soldier by selling their fishing rights for millions a year to Argentina. Another war for no reason and on little to no pay!

    • @rodneyfungus8249
      @rodneyfungus8249 2 дня назад +10

      Winning the war enabled the Falklanders to sell the fishing rights to whoever they wanted. If the war had been lost it would be Argentina who would be selling the fishing rights and the Islanders would be under Argentinian rule. The war was necessary and it is not embarrassing.
