    I grew up with the Seekers! The enormous positive influence they had on me is much more than great music! They virtually educated me how to be a decent person! I still could not afford not listening to all those legendary songs after a while even now! I am very fortunate to be living this period in history when there is the great Seekers! Thanks a million times! Good luck and good health to all the members!

    The best group not only to come out Australia but from any country you care to mention. Their music is infectious. Once you have heard it, you want more. We can never get enough.

    In 1968, I was in college and when I saw an empty classroom I'd run in and write, "Judith Durham for President." She has been my one enduring love for 52 years.

    They still sound so good. Go Judith. They remind of Peter Paul and Mary. They are that good. They stunned the World. Even Out sold the Beatles. But they had so much talent. I listen to them frequently now. It's a bit late, but Judith is my girlfriend now. I am so attracted to her. I was a very young musician when they showed-up. I still liked their music. Didn't realize, at the time how much impact they had. She is still wonderful. I see now. They DID make people wake-up. And their vocals were impeccable. No cheating. They were simply perfect.

    That amazing song " Speak To The Sky " has to be one of the most happiest
    ever recorded by the group. But then again all of the Seekers tunes have that
    feel good element about them. Nice video by the way, found it very informative.

    It's just incredible that Judith didn't understand the effect she had on boys and men. I was absolutely knocked out the first time I saw her, before they had their first hit, and finally some time in the eighties I told myself I needed to just stop thinking about someone I could never have. Catching up again now, and learning what an emotional mess she really was, behind the smiles, is kind of heartbreaking.
    I still love her, 58 years now.

    My favourites sinc the 1960's when I was a teen and madly in love with Judith from afar even though when I met her i was so shy I hardly spoke she was a Goddess but she did make me laugh at a joke she told me and I managed to get to meet her in Christchurch at thier 50th Anniversary tour, she is still beautiful and can sing better than ever

  • @softclay4thought
    @softclay4thought 10 лет назад +2

    The gateway to a much higher orbit of creativity was waiting for them in the U.S. if only two PIVOTAL things had taken place.
    1) accepting the invitation to come to the U.S. to perform Georgie Girl at the 39th Annual Academy Awards on April 10, 1967 which had OVER 22 MILLION VIEWERS!!!
    2) accepting and recording the song MASSACHUSETTS that was expressly written for them in 67, but was turned down by their manager without any of The Seekers even being informed of this and not finding out until years later!!!
    This one appearance on the Academy Awards show would have engendered countless requests for appearances in the U.S. AND a second chance to circulate the delicious Some Day One Day song that millions hadn't had the opportunity to hear. Needless to say there would have been many songwriters recognizing this vibrant blend of beautiful voices as the perfect launching pad for their songs written expressly for them.
    And of those 22 million plus viewers of the Academy Awards program! How many of those red blooded American men would have been taken by the breathtaking beauty of Judith Durham and have beaten a path to her subsequent performances?!
    And don't any of you understand how a recording by them of Massachusetts in 1967 would have endeared them to American music lovers in one fell swoop?!!!
    All of the Americans who didn't like the "psychedelic minstrel" direction music was taking at the time would have embraced The Seekers and their music as the perfect rebuttal to this trend.
    Ironically, the song Massachusetts "... was intended as an antithesis to the flower power anthems of the time..." and The Seekers could have championed and become a main tributary for a credible alternative to the San Francisco sound that so many didn't care for, but had to tolerate in the absence of anything else to listen to.
    The Seekers would have been so busy going over new material submitted to them for recording that Judith wouldn't have had time or cause to think of leaving the group.
    Who was this short-sighted manager of The Seekers and is he still living?
    The significance of these lost opportunities must have haunted him and the members of The Seekers for years.

    • @softclay4thought
      @softclay4thought 10 лет назад +1

      Being in advertising and marketing, Athol Guy had to have been aware of the exponential significance of being seen by over 22 million viewers on one night performing a song that had reached #1 just two months previously.
      I wish I knew the circumstances whereby this invitation was declined.

    • @rich963

      Their manager at the time was the late Eddie Jarrett. Judith commented in an interview for the Future Road album when asked about the decision not to go to the states; 'We have better management now!'

    • @softclay4thought
      @softclay4thought 10 лет назад +1

      Americans distinctly remember Georgy Girl with clarity and fondness, What they don't remember is anything about the group that sang the song. The figure 62 million has been mentioned as the television viewership of the 39th Annual Academy Awards Ceremony on April 10, 1967. Not appearing there is Athol Guy's biggest regret as The Seekers were under contract to do a pantomime in Bristol on that date. Keith Potger referred to manager Eddie Jarrett as being too UK-centric back then. That is an understatement.

    • @softclay4thought
      @softclay4thought 10 лет назад +1

      The 39th Academy Awards was viewed in 22.62 million homes. Assume that two to three members were watching together in most instances.

      I'll never find another you hit #1 in England outselling the Beatles, at the height of Beatlemania, Number 1 in Aus NZ , something no Septic Tank group ever did! Also that was their first single release! Judith Durham is widely thought of by her peers as the greatest female voice ever. Certainly not a Septic Tank that's for sure. During the 60's Britain, London was the hub of world music, and the Seekers conquered it. Oh, and Gergy Girl was number 1 in Septic Tank land, on cashbox. Suck it up !
