As someone who regularly plays 1v1s against an actual "Steve IS me, I am Steve Fox, I am a Steve MAIN" co-worker, holy fuck Steve is outlandishly annoying. Anything after his blue stuff 50/50 or his guard break for the guarenteeeeeeeeeeeed string damage, is extra frustrating. Steve isn't top in some aspects, but those who only play him, 24/7, 365 are another breed entirely.
Steve main here, hwo is probably my fav matchup as steve (prob cos its 1 of his best as hwo is 1 of the only characters i dont have to worry about random high crush with), a good hwoarang player always makes for a good ass tekken match in a world of pluggers and tierwhores. I've always been curious what the consensus is between hwo players on the steve matchup?
Imma Hwo main & I like matching up against Steve. Playing against Steve actually helped with my spacing & whiff punishes. Both characters have a really good ranged launcher, so it forces both players to be more mindful of whiffs.
I love fighting Steve mains because it really makes me focus on patterns and finding the gaps where I can steal back my turn. I hate fighting him in the forced FT2 mode because it just removes the layers of adaptation that a long set offers. Glad to have a GOATed Steve main to get in lobbies with!
Nothing but respect for Steve players. I just play characters to fujin and I almost gave up on Steve. This character takes way too much effort for what is at best a mid tier. Before Steve I did Bryan and Eddy and after Steve I've done Ling Drag and Zafina who were all laughably easy to win with compared to Steve. I actually think playing Steve made me a lot better at the game because he feels so crap compared to literally every other character that I got better by learning to do more with less. I get high level tekken is it's own thing but if you were to make a tier list based off just getting to blue ranks supposed lower tiers like Zafina and Eddy feel like S+ while Steve feels like F- -. Going from Steve to Drag and Ling felt like I discovered the infinity gauntlet.
You gotta actually be skillful with zafina and xiaoyu to be good with them tho. They’re not easy pick and play characters cuz if they were everyone would play them like do dragunov or whatever but they don’t Y’all just complain about zafina and xiaoyu senselessly b/c yalls fundamentals are bad and don’t lab anything

She is complicated to learn but once you know what she does she is VERY EASY when COMPARED to Steve. Steve is hard in this game man. DJ is easy to learn but hard to win with. Zafina is hard to learn but easy to win with. Steve is hard to learn AND hard to win with. Ling I haven't played nearly as much and still don't really know what I'm doing. But I got her to fujin no sweat anyway because her heat is so absurdly broken. When Ling goes into heat she gets access to a bunch of "I win" buttons and you can just spam the least risky and most rewarding mixups in the game back to back. Idk why you feel the need to defend your ego when I say Steve is hard to go "Ling and Zafina are hard too!!". Like first off, I'm talking about Steve, second no they're really not lmao, you need to play more characters. Zafina especially is really not hard at all imo she's just has 3 stances to learn. Not that's it's a contest, just play who's fun. There is literally not a single person in this entire world that cares that you think you play hard characters.

Steve is one of the most matchup dependent characters in the game. Ironically Ling vs Steve is one of the most cursed and one sided matchups in the game in Lings favor. "Create openings where no other character can". I think you're confusing Steve with Ling and Yoshi. Yoshi has spin which beats homing moves and Ling can mid crush at will. Steve has weaves which are definitely more evasive than a normal sidestep but they're never beating homing mids. Another issue with Steve is that Steve himself his really bad tracking. His only true homing move is a short ranged sluggish high. When I'm playing Ling if people are stepping me I just throw out my 15f launcher which is nearly homing for some reason. The way you talk you clearly have never even tried Steve, at least not above yellow ranks.

Strog is a legend, unfortunately he is russian so he cannot compete in TWT, russia isnt even a region in TWT. At least the russian scene blossomed and there are several big nation-wide tournaments with pretty decent prize pools running every year now. Hate that people cannot separate the people from the politicians of the country

This is my first ever tekken, I picked Steve purely because of the ducking and swaying. Managed to get to mighty ruler. I've got my eyes on Azucena/ Lars now. And I have a feeling ill get to Blue ranks with them
Hwoarang is definitely powerful in this game and tbh he’s not my favourite matchup as a Steve main, but he’s not as OP as people online say he is and if you lab him enough you can get a hang of his counterplay

Been fighting Steve a lot more since the buffs and no matter what I do, I don’t counter hit, we trade, but to top it off, all of his counters are what I would call hard launchers. The type where you can trade, he can get knocked down, and somehow still recover in time to continue the combo. I’ve liked Steve since T4 but yikes. I have more to add but phone dead

I main Steve. Hes a lot of hard work, and hes pretty honest in terms of play style. Despite some of his setbacks, i still enjoy playing him. I do want to get to Bushin rank with him so thats my goal.

And then I start the spam, to piss them off so I can play defense some more. It’s all about the match up. Character design can be problematic in new games tho, obv
I hate to be this guy but could you pretty please make a guide on wakeups I've watched several guides and still don't understand how to get up safely I hit up and hold back to block and still get full combo'd by a mid I can hold down back to black lows but no matter what I do I get hit by mids idk what I'm doing wrong

Steve downplay is crazy. He is definitely not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. Steve has been buffed in every patch since launch and is pretty decent in ranked.

@@K-Wiss not as fast as Steve’s though. Everyone else’s jab does 8-9 frames I believe. Steve’s does about 6-7 frames I believe. Correct me if I’m wrong please
@@TruuxKangSteve only had a faster jab than the rest in his release, in Tekken 4. His came out at 8 frames while the rest were i10. And for the current game, jab comparisson doesn’t come down to speed. It’s about range, follow-ups and how easily they get high crushed by moves the have very minor high evasion. An example of that is Bryan’s jab had such a high hitbox in T7 that even Hwo’s df2 would go under it. Hope that helps!

I think there's a few frames when you getup when you can get hit. Make sure to mixup your getups or the opponent will take advantage. Just a tip.
Id practice just hitting ukemi all the time and then start mixing
It really depends on the situation, theres no risk free way to get up in this game.

Steve downplay is crazy. He is definitely not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. Steve has been buffed in every patch since launch and is pretty decent in ranked.
his only buffs were to his lh stance to make it actually usable, his main tools are still as weak as they were on launch

@@K-Wiss not as fast as Steve’s though. Everyone else’s jab does 8-9 frames I believe. Steve’s does about 6-7 frames I believe. Correct me if I’m wrong please

@@TruuxKangSteve only had a faster jab than the rest in his release, in Tekken 4. His came out at 8 frames while the rest were i10. And for the current game, jab comparisson doesn’t come down to speed. It’s about range, follow-ups and how easily they get high crushed by moves the have very minor high evasion. An example of that is Bryan’s jab had such a high hitbox in T7 that even Hwo’s df2 would go under it. Hope that helps!
