Such great build videos. Beautifully filmed, great lighting, and of course very informative. Thanks for taking the time to make these. You are creating a great DIY resource channel. Big ups
Oh yeah, I'll definitely have some shootout vids on the way soon, they've been a long time coming. I've been away from youtube for a minute, but I'll be back very soon with some new content this week, with some comparisons not far behind.
You have given me the inspiration to pursue creating an entire mixing console from scratch! I might try putting these discrete opamps at the summing amp for the stereo bus
Such an awesome idea. You aren't the only one with that idea, there's a great group on facebook call 500 love, with people that are into this stuff. These opamps are great, for more saturation you might want to check this one from CAPI capi-gear.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=71_72&products_id=629 It's the CA-0252. Vince Powell i believe uses these in his SSL console!
I dig this. I've been trying to refurbish an old sansui power amp and also remove the hum from a tascam m30. How do you think the pres on those 80s tascams compare to the pres on these api kits?
The CAPI preamps are pretty amazing. I just checked your channel, amazing content. Your intro video is also the best! So, API style stuff is good all round. BUT especially great on guitars. They really bring out the midrange. I'm not familiar with the Tascam m30, but i gave it a quick google search and found some info. The difference is that these preamps are pro, studio quality mic pres that you'd find in a high end studio. I'm not sure how the M30 stacks up against these. That said, whilst we all like to nerd out on gear, the order of importance would really always be, Artist > Mic > Preamp. But your signal is also only as good as the weakest link in the chain. If you want more info, definitely let me know, always keen to help a fellow youtuber.
@@diyrecordingstudio Thanks for the kind words! I hear you. I have messed around with some API 500s at my old studio and I liked them. The tascam stuff has vibe, but a bit of hiss. Seems to have more clarity in the high end than the tone beast as a point of reference. I"ll take a closer look at these
The tascam might have hiss due to a power supply issue. The hum might also be related to the power supply. The best thing to do if you want to refurbish it, is completely open it up and visually inspect the components. The first thing to go are the Capacitors. Check if any are swollen or burnt out. I'm by no means an expert on this stuff though. You should check out the Pro Audio DIY group on facebook. facebook.com/groups/517919938413134 They can be really helpful. You might need to post images.
Hi Erand, these opamps are probably the hardest thing to build as the components are very close together. What is it you would like to build? A preamp? EQ? Compressor? It all depends on what you want to build my friend. The easiest preamp is probably the CAPI VP312, I'll pop the link below capi-gear.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_117_55_91&products_id=460 If you're just starting out, maybe a guitar pedal or DI box or something would be a better option. The first thing I built was a condenser mic. Way less parts than most of these preamps and stuff.

Definitly keen to hear some sound examples of the VP28 & the Sound Skulptor MP73!
Thanks so much Isaac, seriously man, comments like this make it all worth it. Also dope channel you have. Love those dub vibes!

Another question from a Newbie. Could you make a vid on the easiest/cheapest builds? Thanks for a great channel :-)

Hi Please i need th schmatic circuit diagram of API 2520
I don’t design these so I can’t give you a schematic. These are Jeff from CAPI’s opamps.
Maybe try groupdiy?
