I heard this song in Tulsa, Oklahoma about 1975, john Wetton on bass with a solo.
Dr Hook was the opening band. they were hilarious.

Got into Rock courtesy of my elder brother when I was kid,he played Demon and wizards to death.
Consequentially this became my favourite album ,and the first album I ever bought.
I still love it all these years later, thank you for such a good musical education Dave.

Heep was BEST when Ken Hensley was involved, like on this album and Magician's Birthday. CLASSICS. BOTH.
I've seen so many comments saying 1972's Magician & Wizard are a cut above all their other albums & I have to agree. I( know the reason & Rainbow Demon was the song that made the penny drop. I was 14 in '72 & I managed to get acid for the 2nd time in my life. The came in a capsule of 10 trips & each one was a different colour. They were called Rainbows & were among the very best of the best acid I've had throughout life. I'm sure Heep give them a nod with this song. Phenomenally strong & pure. You can't make it better.

Talking of the books of Moorcock which I read profusely in my acid drenched teens always remind me of Hawkwind more than anything. He not only read poetry during Hawkwinds Space Ritual tour but Elric is featured on their album dedicated to 'The Chronical of The Black Sword'.
