I am from the Netherlands and I am hugely impressed by the series.
We have all seen so many zombie stories. You took everything that's stupid and annoying about them and got rid of them. (Everything explodes the first day, military fails immediately, nobody uses their communication tactics/technology, everyone dies stupidly, people are stupid heroes without reason and get themselves or others killed by accident, people immediately start killing each other over some old beans or bs like that) + You added the whole element of being in old times (shown by excessive use of fascinating old tech and culture) and the whole political struggle.. Truly fascinating..
The zombies are realistic, the strategies (political and tactical) are fascinating and the cinematography is beautiful. The acting, the script, even the extras are amazing.
I love everything about it.
Also it's a truly a breath of fresh air to see Koreans instead another American zombie story on screen.
You truly took it to another level.
I am thankful to have viewed this great story and I am looking forward to the next season.

Honestly, Korean filmmakers and writers have impressed me with the zombie genre, especially since there's not that much zombie work that are good these days. In terms of Korean zombie genre, I actually liked this and Train to Busan. Can't wait for Kingdom season 2. Ya'll can't leave us hanging like that! Lol
well, I'm pretty sure Train to Busan was the first ever Zombie show from South Korea.
Zombie was not a popular genre in South Korea, until Train to Busan came out.

I LOVED THIS SERIES SO MUCH. The cinematography, the characters, the acting, the unique and refreshing twists to the exhausted zombie genre. I really loved how the way people act or react are a reflection of their time and culture. My only regret is Song Joong Ki turning down the role of the crown prince. 😭😂
It's actually a good decision for the plot if he took the crown then he will be stuck in the palace you see where this is going

One of the greatest series i’ve ever watch on netflix. This is phenomenal and the most well- thought out show. Awesome cinematography should i say and the actors were extraordinary. Netflix, you did a great job to have this show. (I’m done 😆) but seriously, i just really cant help myself to express how i was amazed by this show. All of the scenes were intense. And the storyline was amazing. Season 2! Im hell ready!

Yes, the cinematography was excellent. But theres hardly any mention of who the Director of Photography was. No interviews with him. Only the Director and Scriptwriter were glamorized.
I think its because the filming was done by an external private independent production company that’s public listed - (AStory)

Kingdom is fantastic! I love the setting, costumes, and cinematography. Everyone working behind the scenes is to be commended. I love the cast. Each character has so many secrets that they slowly reveal to the viewers, and I find myself holding my breath a lot because my favorite characters have so many close calls! I love the action and the pacing of the show. And I love the zombies! They remind me a little bit of original movie zombies that were created with voodoo magic, a little bit of Train to Busan's special zombies, and a little bit of the Wendigo from Anishinaabe lore. This show is amazing! I devoured six episodes in one night and I am ravenous for more! MORE!!
Karen Ingram actually the zombies here are a mix of Hollywood zomies and classical Chinese zombies in that they cannot operate during day time.

The sets and atmosphere (and the fact that it's not American) keeps making me forget that this is a Netflix show! 2019 is starting off good!

However, it was too short. Most Korean series, that I’ve watched, avg 16 - 20 episodes.
That would have satisfied my sweet tooth.
Considering that it was meant to only be 8 episodes total, I'm thankful we even have another season. I hope for several more seasons but I get wanting to limit the series to keep the quality high! Walking Dead honestly got so bad...

For those who aren't familiar with Korean dramas, I suggest to watch 'Signal' as well, which is 'Kingdom' writer previous drama. One of the best kdramas i've ever watched. And I've been watching lots of it since early 2000s :) When I first found out writer Kim Eun Hee was behind this, I knew it was going to be great 😆
Yes, Signal was on another level of korean series! It's still on the top of my list, now tied with Kingdom 😁

I always laugh at horror movies until this one. No jumping scare, yes, surprisingly no cheap ass jumping scare, but it makes me keep an eye on the windows and the corridor when watching this at midnight.

Who else took off the English dubs and only used the English subs?
I was dumbfounded as to why they had English dub. The dub doesn't accurately portray the raw emotions and feelings intended language. Subtitles definitely are better

I been watching Korean drama and movies for over 15 years and even though I understand the language I can only watch with subtitles. Any other way you don't get the full effect, Korean language is opposite of American English so to hard to listen to it dub, don't feel right

That's the best way to watch it. You get the suttle voices and acting from them that dubbing voice actors cannot bring out.

This show was a wonderful find on netflix. Threw it on, on a whim. Netflix ended up asking me if I was still watching 4 hours later. The answer was, of course, "yeah, obviously." lol.

The way korean describe a zombie apocalypse can't be more logical, realistic thus scary than ever. I've never though of a type of zombies who sleep at daylight and wake up at night, (there's a spoiler about why here at the end). Just looking at them sleeping like babies in the daylight, makes me imagine how much people in the movies value the sun. When the nurse and the ex-soldier crying to beg the authority to put them back where they were found to lock them up before they wake up, only to be laughed at, I can feel something really terrifying is coming and no one cares, like a timed bomb. I was like "hey idiots listen to her! quickly the night is near". The movie hit me at that point. hard to describe it. I always like the idea of using night and day as a core factor of horror movies. Like the old Evil Dead sequences.
Walking Dead zombies are just a complete joke. Sure the character development is better than this but the main actor for a zombie apocalypse movie should include the zombie, and they should be terrified, they should be the main evil force, not that guy with the bat(forgot the name). Quit after season 5 since the series basically became a sleeping pill, too much talking, too much inspirational speech, too much preparation, oh well, for the glorious character development.

Kingdom is f’ing brilliant. I want to meet the creators. I am a tough audience, and I am thoroughly impressed through every detail. The scene/ denouement, where the diabolical queen makes her entrance reminds me of the Devil horns in the the movie Legend with Tom Cruise. No detail goes unnoticed, you make me want to create film and it is a zombie flick. It deserves many awards. I love how the physician, the most frail character, is also the toughest, with her unique non stereotypical beauty to match. She definitely has the “je ne sais quoi” about her. Ahhhhh, I cant get enough. STANDING OVATION!!!!

Brilliant series. Love the story and performances plus the costumes and sets are incredible. I admittedly don't know anything about that era in Korean history but they've clearly gone to great lengths to recreate it.

I friggin knew it that the zombies must have been symbolizing something in the drama. I just think it's brilliant the way she personified people's hunger by connecting it with zombies. However the real monsters are the people who abused the power.
It has always been like this after all. Even now. We don't need to look that far.
I must say that this was one of the best series I have seen... And I have been watching kdramas for nearly 15 yrs now!!

@@spartan2051 all of these are not art. None of them construct meaning, meaningful aesthetic, none of those have any semblance of original cinematic language, nothing. If adults are willing to watch the fourth rehash of Kimba stolen by Disney it's on their part. Star Wars is about nothing, Disney films are about nothing. There's a reason David Fincher, James Cameron, Martin Scorcese, the Wachowskis, Charlie Kaufman are saying what they are. Cinema doesn't fund big budget art anymore, and nobody is doing it to the degree of Netflix.

Well done series and happy they will start shooting season 2 this month and hopefully will be available to steam this winter of 2019. Awesome story telling with action and humor that actually made the zombie horror fun. Hopefully will make more quality zombie films set in pre modern times before the age of the gun.

The way this show incorporates old and new social issues, accurate historical context and AWESOME storytelling and unbelievable cinematography has me so shook. I haven’t seen such good cinematography since Train To Busan and Scarlet Heart Ryeo.

So many things to love about this series: great production standards, so many zombies!!! (so many!!!), the political intrigue, the personal struggles, the heroism, the pacing, the carefully planned different ways to reveal and fight zombies, and that final plot twist. So satisfying!
