Utterly amazing work, Chris! I can't imagine how long this took. If / when I pickup an AfterBurner cab, I will be in contact for a set of these replacement EPROMS.
Thanks! The stage select was the most tricky bit to implement. Involved reverse engineering the stage scripting format the game uses.

Its nice to hear now the melody versions for the arcade, also, how about trying to dump the roms so we can use it for MAME? Like Outrun Enhanced Edition
Well done. I have a freeplay fix for my Outrun, so this would be awesome for AB as well. Any similar enhanced editions for the other SEGA games (Thunderblade, Hangon etc.)?
AFAIK, the Master System (both PSG and FM versions) and the PC Engine versions used the remixed version of "Final Take Off", among other remixed soundtracks. Are there any other ports that feature them?
Do you know an Amiga game called Drivin Force? It is a racing game that uses special pixel mode to achieve 50fps, I think, a technique like that could be used to make an Amiga Afterburner, with 25fps and some more elements on background. Speed over graphics.
Nice. Wish I hadn't sold my upright a couple years ago. If these roms work in the small moving sitdown (city version aka 'commando' model), I should install them. Just worried they may affect something. I noticed you don't have the shaker motor running. Hope that's a preference and not a side effect? Great work.
Hahahha, no, your work was very interesting, because you used an rich knowledge on the process to understand how Out Run works, really this is only needed an book. So try, one of copies is mine, hahahahha!
Amazing work guys. I'm currently restoring a delux after burner cab and cant wait to use these roms. Quick question, i was told that there are a set of test roms ported from the outrun PCB floating around, does anyone know anything about this?
Hey, massive After Burner fan here (*shameless plug starts:* I made a 30th Anniversary tribute video all about it - why not check it out? *Shameless plug ends*) . Don't own a cabinet, but I'm interested in finding out more about these enhanced BGMs. A quick bit of searching on RUclips for 3DS new After Burner tunes is revealing nothing. Are we talking the difference between the 'melody' versions of the original game and the non-melody versions or are there some brand new BGMs out there?
It's free to owners of the arcade cabinet. Details here: reassembler.blogspot.com/2017/04/afterburner-2-enhanced-edition.html?m=1 I can also program EPROMs.

Beyond excellent Chris, well done mate

Fab work Chris, top marks
Final take off music is from after burner 1 arcade.
The version of Final Take Off from AfterBurner 1 is also missing the melody.
So so awesome, thanks!
Bloody amazing!!!

Wow, excellent work. BTW, why you don't write an book with all process to translate the OutRun to CPP?
Ha. I think it would sell all of 3 copies...
