Several years ago I read Friday Magazine of " The Hindu " which carried interview of late Lekh Tandon Ji who while paying tributes to Late Rafi Sahab remarked " I have seen people bitterly weeping after two funerals one of the Father Of Nation Gandhi ji and the other of Rafi sb" RIP
This is not true .it is Muslim propaganda. At his last time rafi was discarded by all music directors .only a few person attended his funerals .a handful muslims were present .no hindu was there.

I say this with authenticity because I have that interview on tape with me as I conducted it for Vividh Bharti radio channel. As per Lekh ji, he interjected immediately after the Mukhda was sung and spoke in Punjabi: "Rafi Sahab, the film has Rajendra Kumar not Shammi" since Rafi Sahab was singing in Shammi Kapoor's style. Rafi Sahab replied back smilingly and softly in Punjabi: "Lekh ji, I sang in Shammi style because normally you have Shammi as your hero. Nobody informed me that Rajendra was cast in your film". Thereafter, Lekh ji said, "Rafi Sahab started singing again and changed his entire expression and throw as per the enactment and body language of Rajendra Kumar". On several occasions during my friendship with Lekh ji, he opined that "there was no human being better in the film world than Rafi Sahab" and that "it would take ages to speak about the goodness of Rafi Sahab as well as his singing genius".
One more incident when rafi sahab finished his recording Dewane hai dewano ko nazar chaiye film zanjeer Gulshan bawara came running to rafi sahab when he was seated in his car .he said rafi sahab do you know on whom this song going to b picturised it's on me so rafi sahab went back and recorded the song again

I will always FIRMLY stand by the notion that had this song been picturized on Shammi Kapoor, it would've been an even bigger hit than it ended up being. Joy Mukherjee (RIP), tried his best but that song was tailor-made for Shammiji imo A similar case can be made for "Teri Pyaari Pyaari Surat Ko" (Sasural, 1961)) which was originally supposed to be featured in Junglee (1961) for a 16-year old Saira Banu! To add insult to injury, Shammiji had already practiced his moves for it too 😅 but Shankar-Jaikishan were already contractually obligated to the former film and hence couldn't fulfill said request.
