  • I've been putting around on this softail a bit now, and the one concern I had was the old, bald, cracked, worn out front tire. I had one ordered up to make this streetable and finally found some time to throw it on. Granted, I have a tire machine so this is a bit easier, here's how I did it. Sadly this was a great day of excitement then let downs.

Shinko makes a pretty good tire for a cheap price

Not bad for the price for sure. Tires are getting crazy pricey these days.

Did you line up dot on sidewall with the valve stem? Should not have to balance if lined up

I did make a point to try and get it close. This wheel does have some weights already on there though.. I'm not fixing it unless it feels really wobbly, but so far so good!

Throw an automatic in it not much more work probably get an auto for same cost as clutch pressure plate ? trans cooler lines, drive shaft mods, trans mount, starter bendix & nose cone, Them 3 speeders were pieces of U know what . I had a 66 1/2 ton put drive train out of 70 mercury 429 4 barrel C-6 Trans and put the electric front seat from the Merc radiater and rear end disc brakes also lowered 2 inches she was a comfortable worthy truck run down the interstate 80 MPH all day long needed A/C Thou. drove it for many years untill a Bottle of Wild Turkey ended its life. What engine you got in your truck?

I hear ya on the AC! It's got a roller 302/5.0 swap that I freshened up a few years before the channel. AFR heads, headers, summit 500 carb for now. She runs really most days. The trans is really killing me for hot rod things, but works okay for working (minus the lack of torqure but that's a 302 thing) I get about 19 mpg with this setup and 3.25 gears. I just wish it had a bit more grunt down low for truck things, but it's also really fun to rev out...

@@WrenchingWrecked you cant beat 19 mpg for low end grunt a big block or 300 6cylinder good options 302 just not much for heavy truck if you gotta haul much or pull much i had a 352 that i ground the valves put rings and bearings in put in 79 1/2 ton i bought had 32000 miles on it was like new but was no power was hard to get up to 80 so i put 352 in it and was very happy with that anyway hope it works out for ya?
