I was stationed in Aschaffenburg Jan, 1971-Feb. 1972. Wow, can not believe it has been 50 years...That German beer was the best. You could buy wine out of vending machines....And the castle on the river was lovely. So many fond memories. The German people were very nice too. And the new years fireworks were really loud. oh, to be young again.

I was in the Army from 1980 to 1988. The time I spent in Aschaffenburg Nov 83 to Nov 85 was the best time of all of it. Not because I was great. Not because my unit was great. (It was) It was because Aschaffenburg, the Deutsch volks, and everything about Bavaria was just really wonderful to me. I miss it still, and it's one of the 3 places I'd love to live someday. That list is Aschaffenburg, Colorado Springs, and Plymouth New Hampshire. But Monterey, California is number 4.

With you 100! I was in A-Burg from June 1975 until February 1987. When I finally departed A-Burg, I really did not want to leave. My last 5 years in the military were spent in Hanua, about 20-25 up the road. I visited A-burg whenever I got the chance. I've been all around the world and stationed in several other locations in Germany. None matches my fond memories of A-Burg. If my spouse wasn't ill, I'd be there right now.

Another vid just like this out there...anyway; I was a Cottonbaler, Graves Kas., Alpha 1/7th from Feb. 83 thru 89, I extended twice as A burg was a great garrison Town and I had no interest in serving back in the US after several soldiers had DEROsed to the states and actually transferred back, telling us the real Army was in Germany........hey, Who remembers macht nichts Charlie? Nice old guy would sell trinkets and stuff on the strasse? Bought my first souvenir from him. The River Fests, schwimbad ( swimming pool) .....'Heylands' Beer(sp?) We called it 'Headache' Beer lol.
We'd pool our money and do the ole 'You fly, I buy' and one of us would taxi down and back to McDs across the street from the Bonhof.......Fantastic video , thank you very much....gotta admit when I saw the 1/7 HQ Graves sign at 2:33 I got misty, I was in Alpha co. and that sign was about 20 yards away if that, from the front of our barracks, the HQ being up the stairs to the right, saw that sign every formation for 6 years......

Now 60 and those days have never left me...wished I could have stayed. Learning the language and culture was a blast. I cared not about the girls like most. I wanted the history, and art experience. Walking through medieval streets, frakensteins castle on Halloween...etc.

I never will forget an american officer putting me behind a machinegun to shoot some rounds a 500m targets, Our army budget could just provide for us to carry ammo on official patrols in the depots and not for shooting that much. if I remember correctly we pinched of some 300 rounds and got complemented for my good eye , gues i really did hit something thanks to those tracers every 10 rounds

I was there in 1977-78, and don't remember any US restaurant there except a KFC on Wurzburger strasse across from the Jaeger kaserne entrance.
