  • Alaska is known as the land of the midnight sun. During the months close to the summer solstice it never really gets dark and stays light all night long. Twilight makes Alaska have the most daylight anywhere in the United States. We show you how light it actually is on the summer solstice.
See what it's like during winter solstice:

I would love to take a trip to Alaska sometime during the summer just so I can experience daylight after midnight. That’ll be so awesome.

I did it this summer in Fairbanks. It was amazing. The only problem is that the place that my tour group was staying didn’t have blackout shades. Only regular ones. So light was still coming into my room as I was trying to sleep. In Anchorage which is 360 miles south of Fairbanks it does get fully dark there but only for about four hours so it’s still light out at 11:00 PM.

@@kobyschechter8163 I would of put as my towels and articles of clothing on that window as possible… That’s crazy they didn’t have blackout shades

@@nicb3706 I did have my own private room though so I was thankful for that. Anchorage (Alaska’s largest city) gets the midnight sun in May and June. I definitely want to go back to Alaska. I experienced summer there. I need to go in winter when it’s absolutely freezing cold. I live in NY (Long Island) and we definitely have cold winters with snow but Alaska winters are at a whole other level.

    Awesome video!
I experienced this in my mid-20s, it was one of the most peculiar/satisfying experiences of my life.
At one point, about 4 or 5 days into my trip, I deluded myself into thinking that it would never get dark again - the fact that I was sleep deprived, and that I had never experienced constant daylight, had me thinking funny things. Lol.
Alaska is an incredibly beautiful state, I hope to go back one day. Cheers.

It takes a special type of person to live in a place like that. I was in Alaska this summer. In Fairbanks it was light out all night and the place we stayed at didn’t have blackout shades. In Anchorage it only gets dark for about four hours a night.

There is one thing that shackles the plan ie budget coz it would need a lot of money. We have to go to US or northern Europe countries to get to the Arctic circle where the only location the midnight Sun can be experienced.

I have never traveled to the state of Alaska but I am typing in what 24 hour night feel likes during the winter. What does it feel like arriving at school at 8:00 am in the morning in the dark? You get to school in the morning but really it’s night outside and you leave school to go back home at 2:00 pm in the afternoon but it’s still night out. What would a six hour school day feel like if it was night all day.
