For the brown-skinned guys out there. Go ahead and wear your brown shoes. He makes the point that you need to add something brown to your outfit when you wear brown shoes. The brown accent is your brown skin. I've been doing it for many years and I love the look. Today I'm wearing my favorite medium brown suede boots, blue jeans, and a white and grey sweater. If I wear a coat it will be black. It all works for me. I love brown shoes.
Watching this in 2020. Kind of hard to believe this video inspired me to buy brown shoes and wear them with my black jeans about 8 years ago. Alpha and I sure changed a lot, but we changed together! One thing remained consistent, though, and that is he definitely is the first to get me interested in style and image. Thanks, Alpha!
I wore medium brown shoes and matching belt with black pants and a crisp white shirt. I got lots of complements. The three looked outstanding! Again, great advice Alpha!
Ok, Beckham is NOT a fair example. That dude can wear anything and look great. Seriously, the guy could wear freakin goat intestines like a scarf, tighty whities with skid marks, and rubber boots, and no one would argue that he has clearly lost his shit, instead commending the man for his fashion tenacity and prowess. Lol, disagree?
You have inspired me. After watching this I've decided to wear medium brown shoes to a formal event that I am going to attend in a few days. Still, I do not yet know what to wear with them. I am going to be wearing a charcoal grey suit, medium brown shoes and belt, a thick fabric white shirt with cut-away collar and a gold dial dress watch with dark brown belt . Should I get a medium brown pocket square ? What about a tie? Or maybe a bow tie or maybe a scarf? What color should I choose? Thx!
I wore medium brown dress shoes yesterday with all black to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and people wouldn't stop complimenting my outfit and shoes haha I took a risk and it paid off
im sorry aaron but im really glad i found you around 2015 and not 2012, if i discovered your vids at this stage i would not stick around. but today i love your vidoes. you have changed my fashion sense and self confidence so much over the years
Hey Aaron, I just wanted to say that I Absolutely love you're Videos. You're advice has helped so much and it's crazy how much I've uped my style!! Thanks so much and keep up the great Videos!! Oh!! And by the way you look a lot like Patrick Dempsey in this video
I couldn't agree more, but you really have to have a great sense of style to pull off black and brown. It also takes a great deal of confidence because, in America, you will invariably have critics. Some cultures (Italians) will tell you to wear brown with everything. Easiest way to pull of the look would be a brown and black shirt (variegated stripes), black pants, and a shoe in a medium brown that's also in the shirt. That's an easy connection for the non astute fashion observer to make.
love the 'referral' to David Beckham, he is the epitome of style in my opinion. i noticed your sweater was over the cuffs of your shirt, it this a normal look you should go by? usually i have the cuffs showing from underneath the sweater. thanks aaron, great job once again.
Your videos are addictive dude, not only you talk about important stuff for modern men, you have that weird charisma - which makes your videos awesome. Keep up the good work ! Btw could you tell how did you get into this line of work ?(how you started) I think everyone would like to know.
Medium brown or cognac with black jeans - works, IMO! The problem with black suit and medium brown shoes, I think, is less aesthetic and more about register. Whatever you may think, black shoes are the more formal option and if you go to, say, meet the president, to dinner arranged by the dean of your universty faculty, or to a funeral, wearing brown shoes is plain inappropriate. And those are the situations in which you're most likely to wear a black suit. Of course, if your go-to suit is black (which is not generally recommended, but you may be cheap, a rock-star wannabe or just really like the stark flatness of it) and you wear it on less formal occasions too, I suppose that changes things. But to be honest, I'd go with mirror-polished burgundy wholecuts with a black suit, if you want variation.
Love the brown shoes with black suits. Been doing it for years. It definitely looks wwwaaaayyyyy better than wearing a stark black pair of dress shoes.
I thought black and brown were colours that just didn't go together. It seems like they do though, providing there is a sufficient amount of contrast between the two.
I guess I should say I would never wear the two colors he shows in this video. When I think 'brown' I think of a high saturated medium tone color. Neither of these are that.
i wore brown shoes with black khaki pants today and thought it looked great. but then someone said brown doesn't go with black. but i thought it doesn't look bad at all/ thanks for clearing this up
The medium/light brown looks great with black suits but, it only looks great with European cut suits. Meaning the suits gotta be slim/skinny and you can't wear a black tie or white dress shirt if your gonna be wearing a brown shoe with a black suit. You gotta match your dress shirt and tie with the brown shoes. Bottom line is, brown shoes and black suits is Wall Street material
And when I mean match your dress shirt and tie with the brown shoe, I mean wear shirt and tie colors that'll go good with brown. Yellow, blue, orange etc
Aaron, might I suggest reducing the length of your videos? I know you love talking, but being concise is a virtue. Many of us lead busy lives where we'd much rather not spend 8 minutes watching you go on and on until you finally get to the point. I don't know what kind of benefit you're getting from making 9 minute videos, but if you're determined to continue producing long videos at least get the important stuff out of the way, then you can ramble all you want ;)
I recently began wearing more suits and ties, both formal and casual, and enjoy it. I look good, feel good and confident. Alpha M actually is what helped me. I do everything on a shoe-string budget (service members are actually kinda broke) and still find a way to look fantastic. My wife also loves the look and often I catch her friends doing it as well. How would you recommend I wear a deep red collared shirt? I was thinking light grey slacks or even blue jeans, but I want to wear a vest as well.
I went to a private school in grade 7-8 and 9, i live Australia and our uniform was brown pants white pinstripe short sleeve shirt and brown shoes with brown socks i personally like brown shoes as black is a little boring sometimes
Thank you that was helpful i watch all your videos you been great help glad your around by the way i like your new hair style its more longer than usually its different looks wicked ;).
I personally think if you want to do a black suit brown shoe combo go with very light shade of brown then a medium brown ie coniac/walnut color. Not to crazy about the shade of brown aaron had in his modeling pics but some examples of light brown with black looked pretty good.
Dark brown shoes with darker greys, tan shoes with light grey or darker grey, black shoes with black, tan shoes with white or beige. End off. Black with white trousers NO! And the rule of tan or brown with black trousers is finished, everyone is wearing brown and tan shoes with black trousers now, at least over here in the UK.
This is the rule: wear it like they're wrong and rock it hard and people will be flaber-gasted and think you're stylish. If you know what you're doing you can pull off almost anything. Brown and black? Yes. Bowties with a tweed blazer and suspenders? Yes, and yes. Ps: you know you're doing it right when there are haters.
Aaron stop saying that you are not Dolche or Gabbana; you are only lowering your price by saying that your taste is not as sophisticated as theirs...You are on the right path and have a big future! (Just don't sell yourself cheap)
Alpha! I have a light gray suit jacket, that has a pattern with a bit of blue in it. It goes really well with jeans... But i want to build around some more, and thinking of getting a fitting shirt, vest, and a tie. But which colors!? Thanks again Alpha, your the man!
I'm more of a fan of khaki and blue when it comes to brown shoes. Black is decent but the only time I would wear black on black is during a nightlife event. Especially for a business man, brown is more of a suggestible style. Black seems too plain.
Seems like the most common occasions for men to "wear" is the job interview, weddings, funerals, and maybe a date. I would say follow the most conservative approach in a job interview, you cannot break the conventions as you are showing respect to the employer. Now if you are interviewing at a "hip" company then go for it, make waves. Of course a funeral demands you show the utmost respect, so this is the most conservative occasion. Weddings and dates depend on your personal style much more, and you gauge their openness to convention accordingly. So whether to wear brown shoes will depend on what message you want to send in the context of the occasion.
Hey Aaron, your video's are great and informative, but if you want to make them look a little more professional, try adding more subtle transitions and get more graphical transitions involved.
Medium brown shoes with a black suit. What if that black suit jacket was a grey sport coat? Yes, with black dress pants. Would it fly? I'm new at this but think it would look sharp for a dress casual look. comments?
Re: Black suit-Brown shoes It's subtle, you have to be more intelligent about it. It depends on the depth/richness/shade of the black. Black actually isn't black as Aaron states. A charcoal black suit with very warm earthy looking brown shoes is a winner. But jet black suit and brown shoes maybe not so much.
Socks should match the pant color. At least, as a general rule. The reason for this is to streamline the leg. However you can get away with other colors in casual situations.
wouldn't it be cool if shoes came with a *matching* belt done in the same material and finish as the shoes? Am I living in a dreamland... or is this something that maybe someday might happen?
If you are not going to a funeral or a wedding, what is the point of owning a black suit anyhow apart from a dinner jacket? If there is no point in owning the black suit, there is no reason to worry if brown coordinates with it. What am I missing?
I love black and light grey ! I own both only, i hate wearing brown shoes ! Actually with black it looks yukk it only looks gud with light brown suit ! My dad actually own one 3 price light brown suit with brown shoes !
could a tie throw off the medium brown shoe and black suit combo? I'm wanting to wear a Blue-ish tie with a black suit, white shirt, and thinking that I want to try the brown shoes, brown belt with the black suit to look sharp...
If you look closely in the background, theres a picture of Aaron's wife. She really is a beautiful woman. He's tried exceptionally hard to keep her off his channel. I was just browsing through some old videos of his, and stumbled upon it
Aaron, what is your feeling about what color button-down you can pair with brown/tan boots with jeans? Can you only do a light colored shirt like a baby blue, or a white?
Hey Aaron! 1 quick question - brown shoes with charcoal grey suit (like the one you showed in one of your older videos)? Middle or light brown specifically.

presidential inauguration speech
You’ve come a long way baby.
A lot has changed in five years. One thing is that Aaron doesn't dress like this anymore. Thank god.
But content in old videos was better !
ThatPunkJames that hairstyle tho
I'm glad he ditched the mullet
Dude looks like someone who tried working for Gucci but ended up at old navy
I wore medium brown shoes and matching belt with black pants and a crisp white shirt. I got lots of complements. The three looked outstanding!
Again, great advice Alpha!
Omg this is so old. His hair😂
He looks like Hugh Jackman.
Nice hair tho
And the outfit! 😄
You can tell alpha isn't comfortable at this time. But now I'm 2017 he's comfortable! Love you Aaron
Shouting.......yet again, even back in 2012. Even with a microphone in 2019, he still shouts.
I wear brown shoes with my jeans .... and they look pretty good!!!!
So he's the guy that can "pull off socks and sandals"
Basiclly the Chuck Norris of Fashion?
Exactly! The Chuck Norris of fashion. Perfect description.
Lol.
You have inspired me. After watching this I've decided to wear medium brown shoes to a formal event that I am going to attend in a few days. Still, I do not yet know what to wear with them. "throw that motherfuc***" LOL
@miiwiiplay Watch half of it....then come back and watch the other half...or you could break it up into thirds....you have options.
I wore medium brown dress shoes yesterday with all black to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and people wouldn't stop complimenting my outfit and shoes haha I took a risk and it paid off
I wouldnt mind if you recreated these videos, because we all know you've learned alot since then.
im sorry aaron but im really glad i found you around 2015 and not 2012, if i discovered your vids at this stage i would not stick around. but today i love your vidoes. you have changed my fashion sense and self confidence so much over the years
i just love your videos man ! awesome tips always
definitely signing up to your subscription :) i cant wait to rock this style when i have money to redo my whole wardrobe
I've been rocking the brown and black occasionally, and get similar comments and compliments, so it looks like I'm in good company!
Sorry. My dark brown chelsea boots go great with my black jeans.
My tan brogues are currently my favourite pair of shoes, very stylish I love them.
Hey Aaron, I just wanted to say that I Absolutely love you're Videos. You're advice has helped so much and it's crazy how much I've uped my style!! Thanks so much and keep up the great Videos!! Oh!! And by the way you look a lot like Patrick Dempsey in this video
Gray is the new black! Very versatile color, goes well with both black & brown

medium brown with a slight black patina can go really well with black. :)
I agree. Light brown and black looks slick. Recently discovered this for myself. It's cool to see you validating it.
love the 'referral' to David Beckham, he is the epitome of style in my opinion.
i noticed your sweater was over the cuffs of your shirt, it this a normal look you should go by? usually i have the cuffs showing from underneath the sweater.

i like the black suit with brown shoes, it keeps it from looking like funeral attire, makes the outfit much more versatile
what a journey it has been, i cant believe it has been 10 years watching you now is an abaolutely right decision i made in my entire life:)
Black and brown, one of my favorite combos. Way back even when I was colouring in kindergarten
Iamalpham is seriously awesome, so many videos and the ask the expert stuff is great, personalised and quick response, great job man
Love the brown shoes with black suits. Been doing it for years. It definitely looks wwwaaaayyyyy better than wearing a stark black pair of dress shoes.
I thought black and brown were colours that just didn't go together. It seems like they do though, providing there is a sufficient amount of contrast between the two.
I always thought brown shoes were the standard. They go with everything.
Sorry man, but you've been terribly mistaken.
I guess I should say I would never wear the two colors he shows in this video. When I think 'brown' I think of a high saturated medium tone color. Neither of these are that.
I think they both look fine, I prefer derbys but it all comes down to color
+ricochet188 not that many people have black suits... theyre a bit somber
avafrav ... I never said anything about black suits... Go back to randomville.
i wore brown shoes with black khaki pants today and thought it looked great. but then someone said brown doesn't go with black. but i thought it doesn't look bad at all/ thanks for clearing this up
brown shoes with a charcoal suit looks fantastic but black I think that looks a bit too much of a contrast but navy also works

Alpha checked gq to find some advice 11 years ago and now his channel is just as popular as gq well done alpha
And when I mean match your dress shirt and tie with the brown shoe, I mean wear shirt and tie colors that'll go good with brown. Yellow, blue, orange etc
Congrats on your success Aaron, that's fantastic news. Well deserved!
Why does Aaron look like he belongs with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Interview with a Vampire? 😭😭😭
Aaron, might I suggest reducing the length of your videos? I know you love talking, but being concise is a virtue. you've convinced me to be a brown shoe guy, one brown shoe at a time. It was awkward going to work with one brown shoe....
I recently began wearing more suits and ties, both formal and casual, and enjoy it. I look good, feel good and confident. Alpha M actually is what helped me. Man, this video is f*cking awesome. Enjoyed it very much. Also, showing examples with pictures is really appreciated.
Be had the same amount of confidence then too
I went to a private school in grade 7-8 and 9, i live Australia and our uniform was brown pants white pinstripe short sleeve shirt and brown shoes with brown socks i personally like brown shoes as black is a little boring sometimes

@AlphaMconsulting pleasure working with you =P

Nice painting, Aaron!

Thanks again Alpha, your the man!

Aaron, just a little off topic, do you still cut your own hair? You inspired me to cut my own hair and I save a lot since. : )
@sns512 from what i got , he said to not wear dark brown shoes with black stuff .. and the medium brown works actually great with it ..
great tips and explanations....thanks for sharing.
I'm more of a fan of khaki and blue when it comes to brown shoes. Black is decent but the only time I would wear black on black is during a nightlife event. Especially for a business man, brown is more of a suggestible style. Black seems too plain.
Aaron i must say you missed your calling which i believe with a burning passion....you should be a actor
omg alpha it's you?! i can't recognize you HAHAHA
hello 2019, Brendra Brenda she broke Aarons heart
@soulmate3x I don't think of it....do what you want, wear what you want

you just confirmed what I always knew very slick carry on young man
black suit and brown shoes are really popular in Tokyo
Hey Aaron, your video's are great and informative, but if you want to make them look a little more professional, try adding more subtle transitions and get more graphical transitions involved.
Good video again, love it. Thin men wearing tips next please........
I own one pair of black tuxedo pumps, and own no black suits. There are a pair of brown shoes for every occasion but black or white tie.
I own 1 pair of brown shoes, i love it :) i wear it with my chocolate and tan suit!
I'm a black man and I was born with a natural black and brown combo. And I've known it looks good. Gods' got style. Lol.
Dude I love you and all and you say really interesting things but your videos have to be sooo long all the timeee
Medium brown shoes with a black suit.
What if that black suit jacket was a grey sport coat?
Yes, with black dress pants.
Would it fly?
I'm new at this but think it would look sharp for a dress
casual look.
comments?
Alpha's wife is in the photo!
Re: Black suit-Brown shoes
It's subtle, you have to be more intelligent about it. It depends on the depth/richness/shade of the black. Black actually isn't black as Aaron states. A charcoal black suit with very warm earthy looking brown shoes is a winner. But jet black suit and brown shoes maybe not so much.
@klankatar Thank you kind sir...check is in da mail!
the way aaron talks, he is more and more like Barney Stintson
@Decepticon491985 714's...Steve McQueen made these popular. I am a fan of most of their styles.
@AlphaMconsulting women watch too, we love to dress our men. Thanks for sharing, cheers!!!!
Socks should match the pant color. At least, as a general rule. The reason for this is to streamline the leg. However you can get away with other colors in casual situations.
I would not have done it but the look works.
if Beckham wears it...it works...Rule no.1!
that's funny lol
lamak190 and stupid lol
Watching the old Alpha M.
wouldn't it be cool if shoes came with a *matching* belt done in the same material and finish as the shoes? Am I living in a dreamland... or is this something that maybe someday might happen?
love the zoolander reference, blue steel,... you rock man
If you are not going to a funeral or a wedding, what is the point of owning a black suit anyhow apart from a dinner jacket? If there is no point in owning the black suit, there is no reason to worry if brown coordinates with it.
What am I missing?

could a tie throw off the medium brown shoe and black suit combo? I'm wanting to wear a Blue-ish tie with a black suit, white shirt, and thinking that I want to try the brown shoes, brown belt with the black suit to look sharp...
He was so handsome back then in these videos.
one tip.........the color of your socks should always match the color of your pants, not the color of your shoes.
Video came just as I was asking my self about brown shoes
"Upping the style edge , just a little bit"
If you look closely in the background, theres a picture of Aaron's wife. She really is a beautiful woman. He's tried exceptionally hard to keep her off his channel. I was just browsing through some old videos of his, and stumbled upon it
Aaron, what is your feeling about what color button-down you can pair with brown/tan boots with jeans? Can you only do a light colored shirt like a baby blue, or a white?
Hey Aaron! 1 quick question - brown shoes with charcoal grey suit (like the one you showed in one of your older videos)? Middle or light brown specifically.
