In 87 I got out of the Navy when my Carrier was deployed in the Arabian Sea (USS Constellation CV-64). I was shot off in a S-3A Viking and flown to BIOT (Diego Garcia). From there a C-5 Galaxy took me to Okinawa Japan and onto LAX. I finally was discharged in San Diego a month later. I can tell you that flying in the Galaxy is very similar to a large commercial aircraft, very smooth and comfy in the passenger cabin. The engines were quite loud on takeoff and boarding thru the main cavernous cargo deck and climbing two decks of ladder to get to the passenger cabin on top was unique.
2nd C-5 Galaxy landing was perfect, better than the first one which wasn't bad either and the KC-135 was just a perfect landing. Well trained pilots and that's the difference.

I remember working at the Boeing Renton Washington plant where I was a rib setter and rivet bucker on 707 main wings back in 1966. Fun and interesting job.
Years ago when the C-5 first came out, we had one land at Norton AFB CA. It knelt down but wouldn't get back up. A second C-5 came in with parts, and broke down also. Then a third one came in to fix the second one, and broke. We had one taxiway full of C-5s because we had no room in our parking area. It took about three days to fix them all.

What a superb landing the C5A Pilots greased it. The second C5A landing was as soft as the first all wheels touch down in unison. What was going on a joint Royal Air Force- US Air Force training excessive? I was watching a show about the Cold War and one RAF bomber pilot said that for years the RAF carried out simulated training missions bombing Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Phoenix and Denver nightly. I assume that for training purposes that the Western US was meant to play the role of the USSR.
Actually no, not the Russian side of the US. You are probably talking about Red Flag exercises held since 1975 at Nellis AFB outside Las Vegas, they hold Red flags for all allied countries from NATO along with non NATO countries that are still US allies. Countries like India, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Israel most of South America and just about the entire Pacific rim countries. just about every country over the years have attended Red Flag exercises at Nellis AFB that are held six times a year.. But you wont find Russian, Chinese, North Korean or Syrian fighters and bombers there. They have thousands of hi def cameras on all the planes while each aircraft has a red flag pod that sends real time information back to the war room where everyone involved will be apart of the critiquing of every single move they did while fighting or if they breached the rules and end up getting kicked out of red flag. Look up Red flag, it will tell you about all the countries that have partisapated over the years including the ones that participate two, three or more times a year. If it was what you said in a previous post about activity preceding the arrival of President Trump, those C-5's are landing decently heavy. Everywhere the President goes, they have to send the Presidential Motorcade. Usually 2-3 limousines, which are heavily armour reinforced and explosion proof windows and body panels. I would guess that each limousine is extremely heavy because of that. They also send other motorcade vehicles: SUV's, bigger luxury type cars, and possibly motorcycles as well. They dont leave anything to chance when our President travels. That 1st KC-135 was most likely there to refuel the C-5's. The 2nd KC-135 Is normally there to refuel Air Force One. Even though England and the United States are strong and trusted allies, they wont risk fueling Air Force 1 with any fuel other than pre-checked fuel. Its exclusive to AF1. They have the fuel filtered and analyzed before its loaded into a tanker plane dedicated to AF1. That's for obvious reasons. Airport fueling systems can be compromised and harmful contaminants could possibly end up in AF1's tanks. Also you need to remember..that 2 747's with the United States livery are flown to.each destination. That is for both security and also if the primary plane develops a problem, there is a back up plane. AF1 designation is only used once the President is on board. Also, the U.S. govt sends THREE identical helicopters to most destinations. The helicopter that the President is on is Marine 1. I know I probably yapped about stuff that most know about. What I was trying to do is give a picture of what all goes on before the President of the United States arrives at any destination. Anywhere in the world. It's an awful lot of prepreparation to say the least. Thank you for the quality video. Even though the weather was rather bleak, you captured everything In great detail. Thanks again sir!!
They occupy RAF Lakenheath (F-15C/D/E) and RAF Mildenhall (KC-135R and Special Operations types) both in Suffolk and use for deployments of B-1B/B-2A/B-52H & U-2 types, RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.
Very impressive C5 and its very short run when taking off - empty … Strange that the Cargolux 747F engines are in the reverse position, even before touching the ground ??? is it compliant with the rules ? and what if it had to perform a go-around, for some reason (runway incursion or anything else that can happen) ?

The C-5 got off the ground quick, lite load of people will allow that.
It certainly lifted off very quick your right.
LIKE THE OLD C5 SOUND,HUNDRED TIMES BETTER.IT'S LOST IT'S MOJO..
Totally agree with you there.
Noting the paint scheme of the L-3, was that military or civilian? I couldn't see any other 'military' insignia.
As far as I'm aware it's a civilian operated aircraft on behalf of the military, specifically in exercises and so on.
Why are the C-5 call sign REACH? How do they come up with these call signs?
Good question, I'm not entirely sure why.
0:52 C5 pilots subtle nose up salute 👌
Haha they are very quick to get off the ground.
How many Airports in England do the US Air Force use?
Quite a few. They have a couple of bases down in the South.
@@JonathanWinton123 thank you
They occupy RAF Lakenheath (F-15C/D/E) and RAF Mildenhall (KC-135R and Special Operations types) both in Suffolk and use for deployments of B-1B/B-2A/B-52H & U-2 types, RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.
Quit the fast pan!! Right at the beginning!
Great insight into what went on that day. Consider a timelapse of the nose drop/unload in future?
Got that. Thanks mate :)
Definitely good idea of a timelapes of the nosedrop for the future.
Very impressive C5 and its very short run when taking off - empty … Strange that the Cargolux 747F engines are in the reverse position, even before touching the ground ??? is it compliant with the rules ? and what if it had to perform a go-around, for some reason (runway incursion or anything else that can happen) ?
It really is an impressive aircraft.
I believe so yes, no really issue
Was spotting yesterday at Prestwick and seen trumps 757 sitting any clue why ?
Nice one. I wasnt aware it was in this week.
